  1. Curious....I see the term "ace" and "#3 starter" flung all over these boards. What makes a guy a #2?
  2. How can your issue with the trade be that Lopez isn't an ace? Arraez should not bring back an ace. There are like 10-12 aces in all of baseball. I would agree I would love for the Twins to acquire one, but having issues with this trade because of that seems like an odd reason.
  3. IF Lopez can pitch like the 1st half Lopez of last year this trade is a great one. He threw 180 innings last year, and it was his first year throwing more than the 111 he threw in 2019. The hope is he wore down throughout the season and he can continue to build on that 1st half. Luis was my favorite Twin, I really, really seeing him go.
  4. 70-75 IMO is a pretty low estimate. This roster right now is stronger than it was before they signed Correa last season and the general consensus then was the Twins were a .500 or so ballclub on paper. I know they only won 78 last year with Correa, but it took quite the build up of injuries to get there.
  5. As far as total value is the 4th most lucrative contract in the big 4 major sports history. I'm not sure if it's cringey the Twins were short.... it's a pretty insane offer.
  6. I mean....was there even ever a slim chance that Verlander ended up in MInnesota?
  7. But why? They don't need Rortvedt with Vasquez/Jeffers on the roster. Donaldson was pretty awful at the plate last year, is 37 years old and will just take ABs away from Miranda. While I agree the Twins do need a RH bat, I feel this person should be able to play the OF.
  8. Why wouldn't they just move Tatis to a corner OF position? He is a much better hitter than both Larnach and Kepler. I get the money owed is gigantic over the next 12 years, but the kid is only 23. He led the league in HR, finished 3rd in MVP voting. He definitely still has the superstar potential.
  9. DId they take the big outfield sign down from the stadium?
  10. It's not even Christmas yet. Can the "we only did this" takes wait until at least Spring Training? Vasquez is an excellent add at an area of need
  11. Tell Surly to pony up some cash for naming right.
  12. Condemning the front office before it's even announced what Atlanta gave up to bring him in. A little quick, no?
  13. Even in that article he stated that the Twins are not shopping Kepler, but there had been interest elsewhere. I don't think there has ever been anything from the Twins saying they were actively looking to move him.
  14. I doubt he is hinging his entire decision on the signing of one player. Could be a small factor, but I would think his camping is hoping a team adds on a 4th year, or an opt out. Not all FAs are in a hurry to sign.
  15. I would much rather one of the younger guys get a full chance in the rotation than spending $12.5 per year on Manaea. He would slot in behind Gray, Ryan, Mahle and Maeda. Give Ober/Varland/SWR/Winder those innings.
  16. The bases will be bigger. I've heard nothing about changing of the ball size.
  17. Correa was hit by a pitch on May 5th and broke a finger in his hand, which kept him out until May 18th. I am guessing the games you referenced was during the Astros series of May 10-12. Complain about Rocco and the lineup all you want, but come on, he was hurt and on the IL. It sucks you and the grandson didn't get to see him play but that's not on "in-consistent lineups." The man was injured. Unless you bought you ticket last minute, you should have known good and well that he wouldn't be in the lineup that day.
  18. His 2021 was gigantic, but took a pretty big step down last season. Which is the real Reynolds going forward? If it's the .262/.345/.461 version from last season some of these trade offers are way, way too much. If going forward he is closer to the .305/.390/.522 things are probably a little closer with trade values. Do I offer Lee AND Lewis for him? I'm thinking no.....
  19. Like I said in a previous post, I would welcome the addition...but wouldn't like seeing Arraez going away to bring him here.
  20. I wouldn't mind having Lopez, I just don't think he's THAT great of a get. Before this season his previous high in innings was 111, his overall numbers and K numbers dropped from his great 2021 season. If you take out his nearly unhittable 23 inning of April baseball last year, he was more or less average the rest of the year. I'm not saying I wouldn't like having him on the staff, but would hate to see Arraez and more go for him personally.
  21. Polanco has proven to be subpar SS. Can he play there in a pinch? Yes, but other than that he's a liability.
  22. A great hitting catcher is such a luxury. Yes it would have great to have one, but at his age and an educated guess that he will only catch ~110 games or so......it seems like a poor use of funds IMO. I'd rather see them just pony up the money for a SS and sign another catcher to share duties with Jeffers.
  23. 21 man roster?
  24. You can have an analytical ball club with good fundamentals, they should co-exist.
  25. Correa is not a forgone conclusion yet. The opening day rotation looked like this: Ryan (5 career starts), Gray, Bundy, Archer, Ober. The 2023 rotation is looking like: Ryan, Gray, Mahle, Maeda, Ober/Varland/Winder. The bullpen is already looking better as well than what they started with. The offense of course would take a hit if Carlos ends up signing elsewhere, but there is room for hope with a lot of young players. Pessimism IS a downer and I believe skepticism is warranted and fair game. But when almost every thread is about or derailed with fire the manager/front office, woe is me, Twins are dead to me etc.....it makes it hard for some people even want to come post and be around. Even the most skeptical fan base should have some positive chatter out there. EX: Varland throws 6 shutout innings and there are 10/1 more comments about how the manager/front office is dumb for pulling him rather than the great performance. Just my two cents.
