  1. When healthy Polanco is one of the better hitting 2nd baseman in baseball. He's also only 29 this year. Jorge had a giant year in 2021 and was injury plagued most of 2022...and not to mention he is under team control thru 2025. I think the unwillingness to give up on that player is pretty damn warranted. Yes, Jorge hasn't been spectacular to start this season, but that is generally a player you build around. Spencer Steer is not a 2nd baseman. He is destined to be a 1B/DH. It didn't take Cincy very long to learn that he wasn't an adequate 3rd baseman. If he was supplanting anyone on the roster, it would Kiriloff....and I don't think many would be a fan of that.
  2. Did the 7th inning really cost them? Or did scoring 1 run cost them?
  3. A win is a win. Twins win a 7-6 game and more than half the posters want to talk about how Buck and Correa going out with injuries helped the lineup. 1-0 win and there's no talk about how maybe they needed some more bats to get some more runs across. It's a long ass season. I know 7 and 10 game streaks are great to rave about. May 16th, Castro was hitting .190 and was the number one DFA candidate. Fast forward, now he's the MVP. 1 comment out of 20 even mentioned Jorge. He had a pretty damn large game winning hi...with 2 outs BTW. I know Polanco isn't a sexy name like Kiriloff, Lewis or Wallner.....but a "grizzled" 29 year old vet can get it done sometimes too. That's 3 in a row. That's 4 out of 5. That's a lead of 5.5 over Cleveland....(who IMO is miles better than Detroit). Tomorrow is Gray day!
  4. Does it matter? The bullpen was lights out, the Twins eventually scored and they won the game.
  5. This feels like what a Cleveland did to the Twins over and over again last year. Did Pagan exorcize some demons tonight? Got out of a huge inherited jam and looked in control, great to see. It's disheartening to see the stars struggle, but AK and Royce showing us glimpses of a bright future.
  6. I think you are probably pretty spot on. If he comes back and struggles, THEN I can see him moving to the pen. I don't think giving any one of our starters an extra day rest at this point in the season is a bad idea either.
  7. Or he wanted to give a guy who has been struggling a little low leverage situation to try and right the ship and it backfired. I'd say it's a lot more on Jorge than it's on Rocco "trying to be clever"
  8. 86 pitches in 7 shutout innings with an 8 run lead. No reason to send him back out. I was in the middle of typing this could be a good low leverage spot for Jorge to re-build the confidence....
  9. Hitting can be contagious. Let's hope tonight is the start of something teamwide for the forseeable future
  10. Because you are comparing 1 series to 3 years worth of data. Was Buck clutch in the TOR series? No. Has he been over the last 3 years worth of data? Yes.
  11. Me either, but with Kep back, what else do you do?
  12. Wallner has an absolute cannon, good lord. Live seeing the bats get going. Toronto made things interesting, but they have a stacked lineup, despite the results so far.
  13. Another shocker. I hate complaining about umps, but this is really getting ridiculous https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards/status/1662467454629543936?t=QrJbwnpIiaKTxDlngtsQ5w&s=09
  14. Questionable lineup against a RHP. I think I would rather see Julien leading off, Alex playing 1B, Solano on the bench and Wallner playing the OF, but what do I know. Super interesting to see Correa playing and Gallo still not. Either way, going to need a strong outing from Varland tonight!
  15. Not to nitpick, he's having a big day, but he didn't homer. 3 for 6, HR short of the cycle, 6 total bases. His bat would def be a welcome addition to the lineup, but he is looking like a guy without a position, why he was expendable to begin with. Huntre Greene tossed a gem as well.
  16. Respectfully disagree. If the Twins were in a different division, they could possibly be sellers, but with being in the Central, there's little chance they would sell with the division in reach. We have known since the schedule came out that the 1st half....especially Mid-May until the end of June would be the hardest part of the schedule. The 2nd half is considerably easier. The only way I see the Twins "selling" is if they go into absolute free fall mode, or if they suffer some major long term injuries.
  17. Kepler's OPS of .847 since April 18th is why Rocco puts him in the lineup. His OPS since then is only behind Buxton on the team. When healthy he deserves and needs to be in the lineup, especially against RHP.
  18. It's actually pretty insane people think this to me. Rocco has been here 5 seasons and two of the seasons the Twins had winning percentages over .600. Two of the best eight winning percentages ever in the Twins 123 year history have come with Rocco at the helm. How did you come to the conclusion that winning isn't important under Baldelli? The "what have you done for me lately" crowd has gotten out of control.
  19. I'm liking the aggressiveness early in the count so far today.
  20. Are we really stretching it to blaming Rocco for not using Duran in the 6th inning? Even giving up 2 runs with the bases loaded and no outs should be considered a minor win for any pitcher. I suppose you could say they should have gone Duran in the 7th with 2-3-4 coming up, but then what? Jax and Pagan in the 8th and 9th? I'm sure all the talk would be how dumb Rocco was for wasting Duran so early. The offense needs to score more runs period. Scoring 3 runs and hoping like hell the pitching staff can give up less runs is a pretty bold strategy.
