    Let's say Perk gets out of the inning, you go into the 9th tied with only Robertson and Roenicke left in the pen after already using Pressly, Duensing, Fien, Perkins and Burton being unavailable. If Casilla would have homered off of Fien in the 7th with 2 on would we be talking about why he didn't bring Perkins in then too? It was one inning earlier, same score, same amount of runners in scoring position.

    Man, I didn't think I would ever even question that I would be happy about even thinking about Mastro playing CF full time for the Twins. Hard throwing power pitchers?! WHAT is going on? Here in MT me and my buddy had drinks tonight to celebrate trading 2 of our favorite players. Cheers to you JR.

    In the same boat, can't argue with any of your picks either. Does 7 starts last year to this year make Diamond qualify for a most improved player? I say you would have to give it to Plouffe who had 360+ PA before this year.

    Lanigan has thrown 8.1 innings of baseball above AA to the tune of 6.48 ERA with 2 K and 4 BB in that timespan, I don't see how that is pitching better than anyone.

    Well I don't think it's fair to just double the record and say this is what they are on pace for. The first 40 games were certainly a lot worse than the 2nd 40 games. I would be surprised if this team loses 90 games.

    There is no way the option will be picked up. I do think there is a great chance he comes back on a one-year deal though. You have to imagine with rehabbing and him knowing the organization/trainers/coaches that it's the most logical place for him coming off surgery.

    Not quite there, but close enough. I'd be curious in everyone's answers to these: 1. The Detroit Tigers will win the AL Central with a record of 86-76. 2. The Minnesota Twins will finish in 3rd place in the division with a record of 78-84. * 3. Current Twins who will be wearing new uniforms after the trade deadline include: Matt Capps. 4. The Texas Rangers will defeat the San Francisco Giants to win the 2012 World Series.

    I was just looking at his numbers and searched for a thread about this. What really gets me is not just the .196 risp but also the .148 with runners on period. 16 out of 18 of his jacks have been solo shots. Weird statistical anomoly but certainly something to track throughout the rest of the season.

    Great post. The entire thing. Wish more people would just sit back and appreciate how special of a player Mauer is and feel fortunate he is on the team instead of judging him under a microscope for the contract he has.

    Looking at the numbers, career wise the Twins are a collective 5-39 against Sale with 0 XBH and 12 K's. The only player with multiple hits is Mauer, and he is 2-8.

    With all the money coming off the books I would say it is very reasonable the Twins would go after 1 or 2 of the bigger name starters who will hit FA this offseason. What Twins are you watching? Their pen is right in the middle of stats in MLB and the bats while 10th of 15 in the AL in runs have been much better as of late, 2nd in the AL in runs in June. I really think a lot of people do not know much about the team outside being last in the AL Central. Record by month: April 6th-May 9th - 8-22 May 10th - June 18th 18-17 Outside of their atrocious start they have been a .500 team. The bats have been much better, the pen has been overly solid, even the starting pitching has turned around somewhat. This team isn't as bad as so many people wanna make them out to be.

    I agree with this. Especially when it comes to Perkins. He is 29, though under-performing compared to last year, still having a above-par year, has closer type stuff and signed to a very team favorable contract for the next 4 seasons, what's the upside to trading him? Unless someone blows you away with an offer, his age/value/contract and upside are something that if I'm the Twins want around.

    Rooting for him to hit a HR, and cheering after he does are two different things in my opinion.

    Comparing Thome and AJ? Wow. I feel like I "bleed blue" Twins fan for life, and I would have gave Thome a standing O as well. The guy is a great player, great guy and played super for us. If you are disgusted by a Thome HR tonight, be disgusted at the pitcher, not Thome.

    Well maybe that's why? Knowing they used 5, thought they could see if Walters could go, if not they would have Manship ready. Really no difference than scratching him and starting Manship.

    Trainer came out, Walter's coming out. Weird he wasn't scratched from the beginning, he hasn't thrown that many pitches. They had to have been monitoring him.
