  1. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/162539516.html?refer=y joe mauer as told to Sid
  2. Is Vladamir Guerro alive and well? To add pop from within, there was no AAA bats worth mentioning so why would you want another inferior bat, AA player, bat only? Colabello maybe.
  3. Proof the pressure from the Twins Daily fan base works
  4. Then there ought to be a lot of general manager jobs open as quite a few teams have not made the world series. Beane in Oakland come first to mind as someone who has never gotten to the world series and is long tenured. 2007-2011 losing record
  5. The excuse for firing are of no different quality than what you accuse the supporters of.
  6. complaining of strawman arguments while offering one, cute.
  7. Several Twins last year had career years. Revere ended up valuable enough that they got a starting pitcher and a prospect for him. Span developed under Gardenhire. Plouffe may have found a spot. The position players added via free agency last year did well. Diamond, DeVries and Deduno all had career years last year. Burton, Perkins and Fien all saw improvement last year. If Casilla turns it around for more than a year in Baltimore you can say it was Gardenhire's fault, but I don't know if that will happen.
  8. There is just a little difference between being the starting centerfielder and third string catcher
  9. I don't give a rat's ass when the term scholarship was first used. The point it it is used in regards to Butera. Doesn't change facts Butera is a poor hitter and he has a roster spot. . He has been a poor hitter his whole career. Whoever makes the decisions on the Twins roster knows that. Butera has a spot because someone wants three catchers and Butera has earned that spot over other players. When Hermann shows he is better than Butera, Butera will be demoted. Hermann has not shown that at the major league or the AAA level. Butera at least has earned his money. No one criticizes his effort. The lack of effort like Valencia showed is what brought out the scholarship quote.
  10. You said he has a scholarship like he doesn't deserve the money he makes. Butera does not decide where he plays. He comes to work and does his job, others decide when and where and thus how much he gets paid. No where have I ever read where there is a problem with his work ethic. If he was the personal catcher for some pitchers then he must have been doing something right.
  11. In predicting win totals for baseball the win total has to come out to the number of games played. Reread Asbury John's comments. It is about them making money, not reality.
  12. You have got to know what your doctor is god at doing and what they are not.
  13. Pay enough attention and you would have figured out the sarcasm. Not everyone is 100% serious.
  14. Again, backtrack from what you say " pointed out that having a catcher that might potentially provide more than Butera's lifetime OPS of .497, just might make the Twins more amenable to moving Doumit if a favorable trade opportunity came along." SSS or not, that is what Martinez has done. No power is what he has shown even in the minors. Ben Revere power, without the OBP nor the SB.Yet you think maybe lightning in a bottle might happen and make Doumit expendable.
  15. You would need by your scenario then for Martinez to replace Doumit, not Butera. To think that is possible is a stretch of the imagination. In 2 stretches in the majors nor 5 years in the minors there would be nothing there showing power. Martinez lifetime ops in 32 major league games is .536. Career major and minor league home runs, 5
  16. Profit taking occurs when there is nothing in the contract to prevent it.
  17. If you can name the name of the previous GM to Spielman your point could have some merit for an insinuated Twins comparison.
  18. Subtle humor gets lost on this board unless most of what you post is snark.
  19. No offense but isn't Las Vegas about getting you to bet your money? Who bets money on what teams will move the odds tp preserve the profit margins.
  20. Baseball and football work very differently in terms of adding talent. The left tackle, safety and kicker all came through a draft that adds immediate talent. The corners you mentions all got torched in the playoffs. Those were added through free agency. Therein lies the problem of free agency in picking up what was discarded.
  21. But yet 2012 was still the fourth largest attendance number in Twins history. While winning in the dome didn't draw nearly the numbers Target field did, the drop in part can be attributed to the newness to Target Field wearing off. I remember reading that sales taxes collected in year 2 dropped by a million. Part of the decline in attendance can be attributed to cost
  22. The Twins averaged 25000 fans a game in 1987, 15000 in 1986. the bump in attendance was not from a 1986 post championship season
  23. It is highly unlikely that the primary reason the team resigned these guys was tha they wouldn't make a fuss. How about that they were in their prime years and top players?
  24. Wise Guy did not miss on the assessment of you. More scintillating reading courtesy of the two of you.
