  1. I don't think 3 games is hardly a sample size to have any idea what the manager or FO thinks. If Darver and Zstudillo catch well enough and hit well enough Castro ends up the odd man out.
  2. Polonco is not a great base stealer despite having some speed. 600 or more PA a season for a player and nitpick the first game. Wow
  3. 82-80 with a new manager, 80-82 with a retread, every manager ends up averaging 81-81. Either it does not matter who manages a club on average or one needs to look for a different statistic than wins and losses to asses a new manager than average wins.
  4. There should be no need to rest a bat only player like Cruz.
  5. 50 or more vs 73. Meh. Not that big of difference. Much has been posted here about Molitor's use of the bullpen. About half of Hildenberger's negative value came in the second half of the season when Molitor used him 2 days in a row. So yes Hildenberger should have been used less. Not because he is an awful pitcher, but he was an overused pitcher.
  6. Barraclough and a half dozen other relievers were ahead of Hildenberger e race for the worst WPA.
  7. Free agent market is no guarantee, either https://blogs.fangraphs.com/offseason-spending-on-relievers-isnt-working-out/ Curtiss has not had a good spring, Burdi and Anderson have been projected to make the roster. Expecting to be right all the time is an unrealistic expectation
  8. Magill will have a job because when you look at WPA he was in the middle of the pack of the 250 relievers. In what fangraphs calls clutch, he was way above average. WPA/li says he is at the bottom third mark. Metrics for relievers is probably the trickiest thing to figure out.
  9. If Romero and Mejia are on a pattern of pitching 2-3 innings twice a week that shifts things considerably.
  10. I would rather see a prospect list of 20 high ceiling prospects than one that contained 10. Lower ceiling players are always available cheaply to fill in. . See Odorizzi, Perez, Austin, Cave, and other pieces the team has easily picked up. High end major league players are not so easily picked up.
  11. It would be hard to call any of them stars og 2 sports. High level players, but not stars
  12. When Harper or Machado has done what Betts or Trout has done you can call them generational talents.
  13. Ah but is the competition so fierce you need a fifth to mull over the fourth?
  14. Grandal's salary for 2019 is 16 million. He signed a contract with a mutual option and a 2.25 Million buyout. 2/32 is not such a steep drop from 3/39 or 4/50 which the Mets reportedly offered.
  15. Revenue increases over 10 years was half due to the opening of Target Field.
  16. Jansen had only 4 BS. Contributing cause, but not really considering his peripheral numbers were not horrid. Chargois also had 4 in 39 IP. Each had 1 bad number 1.63 and 1.11 HR/9 Hader had 5 and thus not the reason the Brewers had less blown saves. Saves, blown saves, wins loses are more a reflection of team. Hader and Jeffers each had 5 blown saves. Each also had sub 3 fip. The teams with the least blown saves also had the starters with the most losses. It is very hard to lose a lead you do not have.
  17. 28 BS That is concerning. It is hard to say if it is a bad as you think. The Orioles and White Sox each had only 18 BS. They also as a team lost over 100 games. The Brewers 25 and the Dodgers 26 were near what the Twins had. They were in the playoffs.
  18. There is still a kind of decent outfielder, ss, lhp and a reliever out there, As the Realmuto trade is still being finalized, trades are still being made.
  19. https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/702/918/5bf.gif if your technical wizardry can make the gif appear, it would be useful
  20. The off season is not done. It may be done in terms of free agents, it may not be. It all depends on asking prices Many players still want more than clubs want to pay them, otherwise they would be signed. Player and agents ought to be aware of the Twins financial flexibility. When there are stil deals that could be made the off season is not over.. What is written about the front office needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Look at how many moves were done last year after this date.
  21. Writers use logic, fans do not. Fans are here and now, Keen observation is looking at the bigger picture.
  22. For about 5 minutes. When Harper produces less than 5 WAR the complaining will start. When prospects blossom, that were traded for Realmuto who is now long gone, there will be complaining. It is not like the good old days where the team could have traded all of the first round picks between Buxton and Kirilloff plus a couple throw ins and Loria would think he robbed you
  23. In descending order of size of contract the top 20 for 2017 are: Hosmer, 1.4 bwar, Darvish- out, J D Martinez 6.4, Cain 6.9 Arrietta 3.1 Santana 1.7, Cobb 1.1, Davis 1.1 43 saves, 6 blown ones, Jay Bruce negative bwar, Chatwood 0.0 Cozart 0.1, Mike Minor 3.8, McGee -0.8, Shaw -1.1, Morrow 1.4 , in 35 appearances, Hunter 1.5 in 65 relief appearances Frazier 1.5, Nicasio -1.1, Reed 0.1, Neshek 0.8 in 30 appearances. Lance Lynn was the only player outside of that group to land a contract of more than 10 m/y Last year there were way more misses than hits. In case anyone disagrees, another useless stat from last year. There were 721191 pitches thrown last year. The swinging strike rate was 10.7%. there were 41018 hits. There was way more misses than hits last year
  24. The 2018 San Fransisco Giant win total with a 203 million dollar payroll.
