  1. MWM, I understand. I think that TR has let us down before. Consider, though, that the post was made by someone not only using sound business logic, but whose very handle is EternalOptimist.
  2. I don't think Morneau will ever get a contract for > 2 years again. The concussion issue is too glaring. Even as a Morneau fan, I would love to have Parmelee show that he should be our future 1B. The numbers do not support this. Don'tFeedTheGreedGuy points out that Morneau has an OBP that is 40 points higher than Parmelee's. Tough calls. The stats at the end of the season may prove enlightening, but I'm sure there will be multiple opinions at that time as well.
  3. Hey IdahoPilgrim, thank you. I've looked in on these from time to time. Appreciate how often you update this. Kyle seems like a personable, hard working kid. Also, he will pretty much have to crush AA pitching if he is going to move up in this, or any other, organization. That said, not a bad week.
  4. johnnydakota! How could you? New to being a Twins fan? To a guy whose handle is Halsey Hall? johnny! We all know you're better than this.
  5. I think that Pelfrey's recent outing factor into that as well. He does seem to be getting stronger. And the White Sox are not exactly a major offensive force.
  6. Actually, Plouffe had a higher OPS+ than Cuddyer last year. And I'm happy for Cuddy, but this will be far and away his finest year IF his numbers hold in that clear mountain air.
  7. Surprisingly, there are 9 teams with a lower winning % than the Twins. I doubt we'll get him on waivers. I was skeptical when I started reading this article, but his AAA numbers are quite impressive. Who would you send down?
  8. Great article. Thank you TFFA. It's great to have you there. Good for us! He's not striking out at a higher rate than he did at High-A. This is really good news. Surprising, even. What I find most surprising is how few of his pitches are near the knees. Pitchers are coached to keep the ball down as children. Very odd.
  9. Pelfrey is not going to make us all think we are watching a RH Johan Santana. He has, however, been improving steadily (?) as he continues to come back from his surgery. I am optimistic that he can give us mostly serviceable innings for the balance of the year.
  10. There is a team winning quite a few of their games called the Yankees. Their SS is nowhere near the best in the league and never has been. Still, they get by. I'd love to have an Ozzie Smith playing SS for the Twins, but we don't have one in our organization and the original is too old. My point isn't just to put anyone out there and pray, but rather that sometimes you take a little less quality in the field if that player can make up for it at the plate. (I suspect that Gardy would disagree, but most here get it) It's worked out pretty well for over 15 years for that Yankee team.
  11. Great article thry. I think Mike in SD was telling you that the date for Phil Niekro is incorrect. You have the 9 and 8 swapped. I am a little horrified that the White Sox were once the St. Paul Saints. Sadly, I cannot unread that line.
  12. Unless Morneau starts hitting for more power no one is going to pay him $13 million to play first base for them. That's fine, but remember he is still a good 1B. I like Prince Fielder as a person, but think of how many errors our infield would have if he were our 1B. How much WOULD you pay for Morneau? And finally, They could use the money on a pitcher/SS/whatever... Starting season payroll was over $30 million less than it was at the beginning of 2011 season. Morneau, Pelfrey and Blackburn are coming off the payroll at the end of this season. They have money. Lots of it.
  13. Something about kids baseball - folks are usually friendly, ready to have fun. A ballpark is a positive places to hang out. Or maybe it's just me. I'm a huge baseball fan and a nice guy. Who knows?
  14. I really like the vote for Crisp. Very nice for him well into his career.
  15. I like Shane's post. Clete had a great day. Possibly a career day. He was the reason the Twins won that game and I, too, am happy for him. What happens down the road will be determined by his play in that time. But no one can ever take away that game where he was absolutely the star.
  16. Thanks for the recap and your observations, mggopher. It is appreciated.
  17. In three games this season, Sanchez has held the Twins to an OPS of only .358. Lends a new clarity to the term, 'dominate'.
  18. After the 2011 season the Twins had the 2nd pick in the draft. After the 2012 season the Twins had the 4th pick in the draft. I'm not arguing that the Twins are a great team, but there are 10 teams with a lower winning % than the Twins this morning. Not my happiest definition of competitive, but better than I had expected.
  19. I am not on the 'Sano to 1B' bandwagon. Someone out there (Keith Law?) suggested that if Sano cannot stick at 3B they should put him if RF. His point was that Sano has such a great arm that you shouldn't hide it at 1B.
  20. Instead they sign a guy who has a WHIP of 2.368 and an ERA of 8.53 in AAA this year. And those numbers are far better than his SSS MLB numbers this year. Hmmm...
  21. dakotanative said it well. Congratulations. And from one who enjoys this website almost every day, thank you.
  22. Where did all the comments go? This was a fun thread and I wanted to follow up & see what others had said. No one knows. Damn NSA.
  23. Not sure what is going on with Thielbar. Why is he used so sparingly? I don't know what his year-end stats will look like, but right now he is the best unused reliever in baseball. Get him out there. Hard to send a guy down who has a 0.00 ERA and a WHIP lower than any pitcher on the team not named Perkins. I guess my point is that it should not be Thielbar who gets sent down.
  24. Great attitude! If you have real passion then you sometimes get frustrated with your team. That was a fun game, especially for Arcia & Thomas. Go Twins!
