  1. I don't know how it works either, but I've bought two cars and an Oswalso Arcia Twins jersey.
  2. If the Twins come out of this with DeLeon and Alvarez I'm pretty sure I'll be loving everybody for at least a while.
  3. I don't see why the Twins would be drawing this out. As stated a hundred or so posts ago, the Rockies are giving up position players for pitching. Their 2B, LeMahieu had a .911 OPS this year and will not be a free agent until 2019. I don't know who the Rockies have behind him, but LeMahieu is younger and cheaper and they would have him as long as they would have Dozier. If I were the Twins I would pull the trigger and get it done. EDIT: the Rockies remark was #215 by laloesch.
  4. Thank you for your input HawkeyeDodger! I would be surprised if we wound up with Calhoun. Really need pitching so desperately that anything else is just 'to even things out'.
  5. If I were a source I'm pretty sure I would try to NEVER make people look foolish, and so would only tell people what I really believed was going to happen. But hey, that's just me. (insert smiling, goofy emoji here)
  6. The noted sites do not seem clear that De Leon is even a sure thing #3 starter. And I would rather have a low level prospect who looks promising than Calhoun.
  7. I think that when you have a top 10 prospect list and a guy who struck out 3.9/9 in AA is on the list at number 8, well, that looks discouraging. I know he's younger than the 'average' player in AA, but 3.9/9? And they rank Palka lower than that. What do they know that we don't? Just ahead, at number 7, is a player who was taken as the #4 overall pick in 2013. (he of the 4.6 SO/9) This does not look good.
  8. Good talking point, Run Prevention. If Escobar can return to his 2015 form he is an average SS, maybe slightly above. Not elite. I would expect he may be a better 2B, if indeed Polanco is playing SS. Vielma has historically had a pretty good OBP and in AA last year a .271 batting average. No pop to speak of and not terribly impressive, but maybe by 2018 or so he could be a passable enough hitter to trot him out there. Right now MLB pitchers would eat him for lunch. (IMHO)
  9. Kennys Vargas was second on the team in OPS (behind Dozier). Looking again at his MiLB numbers show that he pretty much always has had a good to great OBP. He knows how to take a walk. The way he hits baseballs means that his OPS is going to look sweet, probably. Part of me keeps thinking what we've seen is too good to be true, but I would sure as hell make sure we find out. If he can bring his MLB numbers pretty close to his MiLB numbers then it is no certainty that Sano is the big bopper on the team. Unlikely? Maybe. Let's find out. Run the platoons like Thrylos was saying and if Vargas and Park are both raking we finally have a position where we have a wealth of talent. (yes, a Twins fan just suggested we might have one position with a 'wealth of talent')
  10. The real problems with the Twins NOT calling ABW up in September were that 1. he was a good trooper (not to the Beresford extent, necessarily) and deserved some recognition, and 2. had he raked in MLB before pitchers figured him out he may have had value in a trade. In a short period of time, like September, we have seen players come up, do well, and never reach that level of performance again (see Arcia, Oswaldo). Had he been awesome there may have been GMs that thought this was sustainable. Those are the reasons I feel he should have been called up in September.
  11. Just looked at the Twins 40 man roster. Castro is on it.
  12. I am cautiously optimistic about Mejia. Gonsalves had a great year, but he has pitched only 72 innings in AA. Tyler Jay may be coming along, but a 5.79 ERA and 5.8 SO/9 in AA does not scream "BRING HIM UP". DJ Baxendale (in AAA) had better numbers than either of them in WHIP and SO/9 and he was left open to the Rule 5 draft. If either of them perform at a level that insists they be promoted to MLB it will be up to the FO as to whether they are being 'blocked'. And it may be that a dis-functioning Gibson is more is more likely to be set aside than a career average Hector Santiago. I still believe Santiago should be tendered a contract. ** my bad. SSS for Jay in AA. He was excellent in A+ this year.
  13. The JJ Hardy thing really upset me, but I know he did his best and we can credit him for a lot that he did for the Twin. Best of luck to him.
  14. I'm very surprised that the new CBA doesn't include a 26th player on the roster. I would have expected the players to be big on this. It gives them the possibility to have more days off and increases their membership.
  15. I'm sure if my primary team was a NL team I would think that this All-Star HFA thing was a bad deal. And as the AL is a stronger league, it really is unfair to the NL. I rather enjoyed the guys kind of goofing around in All-Star games. They still wanted to win and they were definitely going to play hard, but John Kruk vs. Randy Johnson (1993) type of humor could sit poorly with some if it happened today. I will watch the ASG as long as the best players keep going. In baseball the players seem to really feel it is an honor. That doesn't appear that is as true in the other major sports.
  16. I believe they will all be tendered contracts and I believe they should be tendered contracts. I know some will say we should let go of Santiago, but he has been an above average pitcher from 2011 through 2015 and our depth just took a potential hit as we leave Baxendale and Wheeler open to the Rule 5 draft. I know Hector is not a top of the rotation pitcher, but let's not forget our Voltaire ("The perfect is the enemy of the good"). Letting guys like Santiago go is how a team winds up with guys like Albers and Dean as the starting pitchers in MLB games.
  17. I would not pick Jim Pohlad. He acknowledged, publicly, that his organization was experiencing a total system failure. Then he went out and did something about it. So far I don't see much to complain about when it comes to Jim Pohlad. He could have made some of these moves sooner, but they are being made now.
  18. Coming into the off-season everyone is concerned with the pitching staff. Too many ignored the weakness the Twins have at the catcher position. The Twins have addressed this in a way that should help the pitching staff. That looks like a win to me.
  19. So I looked up his fielding numbers on FanGraphs. Valid points...
  20. I haven't been flamed for a while, so I'll see what this inspires... 1. I do not understand why so many are fine with letting Grossman go. Is he pretty at the plate or in the field? No, but he had the highest OBP on the team. I would expect a site based on analytics would appreciate that. 2. Jason Wheeler and DJ Baxendale are 25 years old, but they both had better numbers in AAA than Albers or Dean. Lower WHIP, higher SO rates and better SO/BB rates. Not that a team should measure a pitcher's MLB potential on Albers and Dean, but our new FO must see some pitching potential that the last members of the FO missed.
  21. Non-tendering a guy like Santiago is how you wind up with guys like Albers and Dean pitching MLB ballgames for you. I wouldn't do it. I also would not be so anxious to let Centeno go. You are going with Garver, but he has never caught a major league game. I would rather he earn the position rather than be handed it. Grossman may have had his career year with the Twins. That said, he led the team in OBP. Cannot imagine why you would let that guy just walk away. And if you trade him you need not replace him with a CF. Besides Buxton, both Rosario and Kepler played a lot of CF in the minors and either can handle it (if) when Buxton gets days off. Lots of interesting things to think about. Thanks for the article!
  22. Maybe after I'm gone. Until then you might be the second to last.
  23. Good read. Thank you. Sure hope this guy can make a difference. Maybe not immediately, but soon.
