  1. Since when is that a legitimate criteria for a veteran call-up?
  2. In all fairness... Who's going to take it away from him?
  3. But you knew that... a long, long time ago. Why didn't you explain that to Terry, then, man, when he was extra busy patting himself on the back last year for all the wisdom in realizing the key to the deal being that "extra year of control"?
  4. Played 3rd his entire professional career. Body-type not suited to the OF- clearly not easier for him. Getting the bad-mouthing whisper campaign alleging his bad habits sent through the media.
  5. I can't wait for the RG III sequel, next week.
  6. I've added that one to my Ryan quote hall of shame archive- the file is getting pretty full.
  7. Shane, I thank you in yet another miserable season... for making my sides split whenever you deadpan- you are the man!
  8. With a June 15 opt-out for Burnett? Ahh yes, the Twins living on the wild side.
  9. LOL I saw him play a few times in Chatty, once in person. Going to his right, he was terrific, tracking down spinning foul pop flies both in front of him and behind him. And he was great getting to grounders and hot smashes in foul territory, setting himself and throwing rockets to 1st or 2nd. And really, 3B is the one IF position where supreme lateral movement beyond the first step and a half is usually de minimus relative to the other guys. And also really, the Twins' staff have destroyed their credibility on their assessment and development and implementation of Sano's role in the lineup vis a vis Plouffe just about 6 ways from Sunday. To not even try him out there for a month, with no backup Plan B in place, tells me more than something about a club that didn't even take care enough to plan for all potential contingencies to ensure a smooth transition for a potential transcendent-type player.
  10. Though we may never know for sure, he's actually been pretty decent at 3rd coming up in the minors. I would think he would be able to physically play the position more than adequately until he nears 30 years of age (his body-type is most definitely on a straight path to full-time DH, sooner or later).
  11. OK, I actually looked him up. It turns out he opted out from the Bravos after opting out from the Dodgers. Definitely had a better line there. Ladies and gents, though he's going on age 35 in a couple months... though still not good enough for the last place Braves... meet your very next Twins bullpen call-up! *** ***(And leaves Twins fans scratching there heads yet again, wondering out loud if any of the power arms will ever appear in Twins uniform before this decade is out).
  12. So it's basically a trade with the Dodgers.. Casey Fien for AJ... er Smiley... er... Sean Burnett. Just for fun, check each player's AAA stats for the Dodgers. Yep, makes absolutely no sense.
  13. Do you think there's a chance our baseball friends from the greater Kansas City area might loan us a couple of "miracles out of nowhere" before we reach "the point of know return"? Will the wind and rain hold off enough tonight to let fans "hold on" and ultimately "play the game tonight"?
  14. Time to search for precisely where the disconnect takes place, because somehow, someway, the developmental program isn't translating to the majors at an acceptable rate.
  15. It also doesn't hurt to have the kids see how a veteran conducts himself. Escobar and Gibson are perfectly cast as young, up-and-coming role models to emulate.
  16. Wasn't finding him once already, enough?
  17. I challenge your outlandish assertion and too, am at a loss... Just exactly who is our first best player?
  18. I really don't think that the majority of these guys mind the characterizations one bit. They get highly compensated for playing a child's game- and even if their only true "success" is making a major league roster at the end of the bench. And what the heck, Bob Uecker and Bob Lurtsema made post-careers our of their professional sports careers- based on making humorous light of their athletic mediocrities. It's a fact of life in this sports-obsessed country- athletes are going to be graded, verbally and monetarily- sometimes with cruel clarity- on a sliding scale based on their relative worth at any given point in time.
  19. FWIW- a small ray of sunshine. Three of the four affiliates are either in first place or in the case of the Rochester, a half game out of first. It's not exactly like we envisioned, but for the time being... What an outfield with the current four guys. Speaking of four guys, if Meyer quickly bounces back, along with Berrios, of course, and the surprising Wheeler and perhaps the steadying veteran presence of Milone, you have 4 starters who could soon possibly impact the Twins. And don't forget about Chargois in the pen- nothing short of phenomenal so far in AAA.
  20. So far, the latest plan appears to be to: 1) cut the fringe players and 2) demote the prized prospects... and replaced by more of: 3) their own fringe players and 4) other teams' not-so-prized castoffs. So yeah, it's a plan, I guess...
