  1. And whatever would the affiliate do without him? Gotta take care of the Wings... But seriously, they would once again have to go through the 40-man angst to clear the way. They will likely let Clete play this out until Hicks returns. Perhaps they even give Thomas a chance to leadoff. Richardson still has the chance for a Dinkleman-like cup of coffee with the Twins should a roster spot open up via injury, DFA or trade. But sadly, the end results for Richardson with the Twins are odds-on likely to resemble Dinkleman's. There's a reason 4-A guys are 4-A guys.
  2. Jamie Carrol is only playing and batting leadoff because the Twins have left themselves without any alternatives. Plouffe is back tomorrow and Carroll is back on the bench and Dozier or Clete Thomas are dubiously moved into the leadoff spot- in which in short order, they are in turn crushed down, and Carroll is reinstated in the leadoff spot. Lather, rinse, repeat.
  3. It wasn't clear who the CF backup was with Hermann on the roster. Nothing has changed in that respect. In Hermann's enitre career, he has played only 11 games in CF, all in 2010 at Ft Myers. This promotion makes it clear that TR is firmly in control of the roster decisions. If Gardy had more rope he never would have sent down his 3rd catcher security blanket. It appears the Twins will go an outfielder short until either the 13th pitcher is sent down or Hicks/Ramirez are reinstated.
  4. Nurse, nurse, nurse, there you go again. You veer past the obvious points that were made by me in this very thread. I specifically stated that "Hernandez has no future as an MLB starter", time to move him to the pen as a Swarzak-like middle reliever who specializes in getting out primarily lefthanders. And I did mention two relievers who are currently blocked at New Britain who should be who the Twins emphasize in moving up, along with questioning why the Twins would bring in Eppley- with them seemingly ready to be tried out in Rochester Reading, it's fun-da-mental.
  5. Shocking developments tonight for the Red Wings. My personal "thanks' to Hernandez and Martis for helping illustrate the point I made this morning in this thread about their uselessness... as they are once again shelled....meanwhile the youngsters, Thompson and Tonkin, are effective in closing out the victory for Rochester
  6. Plouffie 2 singles tonight for Rochester (one was of the infield variety).
  7. Sign him up. He's got to be better than what Hernandez and Martis gave Rochester tonight.
  8. The tipoff was in the 4th inning, when all the groundball outs suddenly changed into flyball outs. This inning became very predictable after the first double. At this point, I think Diamond is still seeing double
  9. Yes, all of 25 games played at the top of the order, yet more proof that there was no legitimate "plan" for having proven OBP producers at the top of the lineup. Everyone knew that Mastro is what he is, a margina, but very fast, 4th OF, ideal for pinch running and late inning defensive replacement- who has never shown he could be a starter, let alone, a top of the order on base machine, for any sustained period. Again, Ryan rolled the dice on a guy jumping two levels who has struggled at each successive move up one level, with no legitimate proven starting-major-league-level backup option in CF.
  10. Seriously, that was "the plan?" Mastroianni career slash line batting leadoff: .167/.231/.292 Mastroianni career slash line batting 2-hole: .210/.296/.258 You trade away all your "non-plodders", except relying on a career 4th OFer as your back-up plan to pick up your AA prospect when he falters, this is what you're left with. Can we say in unison: "Not Ready for Prime Time."
  11. None of the blame should be laid at the feet of Carroll, or Gardy. Ryan rolled the dice on one, and only one, leadoff option and he came up snake eyes. At this point, Mauer is the only legitimate alternative- all of the other alleged alternatives are fighting just to keep their averages above the Mendoza demarcation point.
  12. If Seth didn't overlook Eades by mistake, this is one instance where I would agree with a wait-and-see approach on him before ranking him in the top 20. Based on his Super-Regional performance, I don't think you're going to like what you see at Omaha. Eades' performance was, in a word or two, a mess. He was throwing the ball all over the place, and only occasionally in the strike zone (only 50% strikes), and many of those strikes were hit hard, all too frequently. The LSU Coach appeared to have little patience with him, warming up 2 relievers while he struggled in the 2nd inning. He settled down in his last 2 innings of work, but I doubt he would have gone much longer if there hadn't been a rain delay. He's got a live arm with a big ceiling, to be sure, but truth be told, he's probably only the 5th best pitcher on LSU. It was just one game and hopefully he shows better this weekend, but he's going to need some big-time coaching up to restore his much more lofty pre-season ranking.
  13. Ding, ding, ding. You are correct, sir. Puhl actually made the All Star team once, as well and had a 15 year career as a fairly decent OFer for the Astros. I was shocked to learn that there have been 7 native Sashaktchewanders that have played MLB ball. I think that rates them a step higher than Manitoba and New Brunswick- baseball hotbed, indeed. Looking forward to Albers soon representing "Roughriders nation", and putting the province back on the MLB map.
  14. A Albers - International League man of mystery... Question. How many guys have made the major leagues from the baseball hotbed that is Saskatchewan? And who was the last one and when?
  15. You guys are sure tough to please. Berrios is the youngest pitcher in the league and he's 4th in the Midwest League in FIP @ 2.46, 3rd in K/9 @ 10.43 and 4th in K% @ 25.8%. To put it in perspective, one guy barely ahead of him in Ks is teammate, Stephen Gruver, who is 24 years old. Yeah, he's not as dominant as last year in Rookie ball- and perhaps his cautiousness and/or immaturity and more nibbling around the plate has led to the increase in BBs and more hittable- but it's continued to pay off for him in keeping the ball in the ballpark- he's around the league best in HR/9, he's given up just one HR both this year and last. He's proven to be more human, but hey, he's been very, very good in 7 of his 9 starts, going up against guys as old as 25. I think he's right on track for a possible debut in 2015.
  16. Huh? I clearly said time to cut bait with the AAAA lifers. Goodbye to the Eppleys and Martis' and Velasquez's of the world (OK, I left a small out for Velasquez, but really, he's just another scrap heap pray-and-hope). Hello to legit prospects. And remember, there is likely at some point to be the 13th pitcher sent down from the Twins to consider, as well. Maybe in this interim period of hole-filling you take a chance on one reclamation project at each Roc. and NB and you start the season stocked at AAA with potential SP depth (it seems like the Twins have a whole nother "staff" on the Red Wing DL), but as the season progresses, replace the waste and move up the guys that still offer upside- cases in point- Darnell, Achter and Ibarra have put in their time at AA, it's time to see if they can be part of the long-term solution. Signing Eppley is the exact opposite approach, there's a fighting chance he still would have been a FA next offseason- if the Twins scouting department was that enamored with him.
  17. It's pleasant to have some terms of agreement, but let me disagree with you a little bit anyways. Logan Darnell is an excellent case in point. I think it's safe to say that the noble Virgil Vasquez experiment has run its course- time to move him to the pen or back on the comeback trail with another organization. Or just move Pedro Hernandez to the pen, he has virtually 0% chances of being a major league starter, anyways. Darnell has repeated his AA experience twice now and has passed the third exam with flying colors. AJ Achter and Edgar Ibarra could also be considered for promotion. They have both been a little wild compared to their career rates this year, but as demonstrated by their low OBAs, wildly effective. I don't think anyone would miss Cody Eppley or Shairon Martis to give these guys a shot like they've given the "4 Ts", Thielbar, Turpen, Tonkin and Thompson. Doing something like this then opens up the gates at Ft Myers for guys like Jones, Johnson and Williams to replace them. Let's get this timetable accelerated already, no more fillers and reclamation projects need apply.
  18. Again, I have never mentioned Slama. I want the Twins to build their organization by putting prospects in place to succeed, up and down the entire system. Guys like Slama and Eppley hang around far too long and end up taking valuable innings and opportunities away from pitching prospects who actually might have a chance to make it to the big club. And yes, the Twins have seen fit to mollify Red Wings ownership by constantly filling the AAA level team with 4-A detritus.
  19. I like it. The Giants have some minor league prospects, and they aren't afraid to pull the trigger and 'get her done'.
  20. Please identify where I once mentioned Slama. How about building with actual prospects, not guys like Eppley or Slama- who was in his 5th year at Rochester and obviously never fit into the Twins plans for the major league roster (or apparently any other clubs' ML roster, either).
  21. I brushed right past your Thielbar comment. It appears there is little confidence in him, despite his numbers, thus far. He has to stay up until the nagging issues with the other relievers become more clear, but at that point of clarity, the #13 pitcher is gone. I don't think the Twins are the type of organization that will just outright cut a real professional veteran guy like Carroll, he fits in perfectly in Gardy's comfort zone and he's earned his level of respect. If, and until, they line him up on another major league team roster, ala Thome, Carroll's here to stay.
  22. 1) The Hicks extended stay in Rochester scenario practically writes its own script. 2) As of yesterday, Mastro was still in his boot (or "shoe", as Gardy would say). He won't be ready anytime soon. 3) Parraz for another. The Twins love adding AAAA filler over promotions. 4) If Ryan truly is calling almost all of the shots these days, it would be Hermann who goes back down, but with Gardy appearing to prefer Doumit in RF these days and the Hammer getting more DH time, Esco is likely to be the guy who gets the demotion.
  23. Molllifying the Red Wing ownership with filler former Yankees takes precedence over actually building your own organization. Affiliate Concern, people!
