  1. I think he's definitely proved he's fully healthy tonight, at the plate and in the field. Man, would it be something if this was the type of showing that could be counted on consistently from Plouffie.
  2. If you have to ask who Dougie Mint is....? I don't know if Jason Parks knows as much as Molitor or Mientkiewicz, but I'll go with fast-tracking Buxton, hopefully he makes stops in both High A and AA this year.
  3. At long last, the Twins have found their new leadoff man...
  4. "Decent". Give the Twins credit for getting him in the lineup on his birthday. (He hit 2 HRs last year on birthday #26.) Welcome back Plouffie- OPS now back over .800.
  5. I'm willing to go with Dougie Mint's opinion that Sano is ready to hit at the major league level right now and that Harrisburg likely pitched around him tonight.
  6. "Over the top", really? How so? I'm not "accusing" the organization of lying to fans. It's simply a fact, I can go over it case by case, if you're so inclined. As far as willingness to wallow, if the mudhole fits, be willing to lie in it. As far as promoting helpful debate, I'm trying to help by making a strong point and hopefully waking the opposite side from its lethargy and then finally they can remove the "Kick Me" sign from their collective backsides.
  7. You're right, the Twins have better prospects and "more", if you prefer that to plenty. And there were other pieces involved in that Shields trade, you can't make it just Myers for Shields. Lining up Shields as the backbone to your staff out to 2018 was a deal that you have to try to get done, if at all possible.
  8. Yup. And largely because of how well they read and predict the predilections of their customer base.
  9. Except folks on your side have done so in the recent past... in the 90s, in the 80s, in the 70s.... It was supposed to have been different with the new stadium.... but it isn't. "Patience", "accpetance", willingness to wallow and be lied to by management and ownership.... all the signs are still out there....
  10. Hmmm? Nailed it last night. The Clete Thomas renaissance is officially full-blown. 11. Texas is also just coming out of the brink of bankruptcy and smelling like roses because they have a legitimate plan with success on the field as the bottom line. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay doesn't work for you as a model to emulte, either, since we no longer fit the model in Target Field. Heads are spinning on your side of this argument. On FA, you guys want to have it both ways but you can't. Your side has been arguing vociferously that FA is not the answer, and yet you supply FA signed as your answer. If their payroll was capped at the self-imposed 50% rule, you might have an argument, but you can't, so you don't. How does Colorado disprove the point?
  12. No point in spending? Why did the organization sign anybody then? Why retain the high dollar guys who won't be around when the next wave hits, anyway? We are spending needless money by your way of thinking. And our "neeDs" are vast and wide and can't be solved in one offseason. LA hasn't shown us anything. Spending money SOMETIMES means you won't get in. Not spending money means you NEVER will get in. Spending wisely now, by your very own definition, is not happening now, staying the course has gotten us in the mess were in.
  13. Would you care to take a stab at the question proffered?
  14. The Tigers are the Central Division's Yankees. Look to the solutions to that dilemma from teams like the Orioles and Rays. They went one direction in response, the Jays and Red Sox went another. The Twins are doing neither.
  15. I'm not sure there was one....
  16. So you would rather be proud of losing and being mediocre (and feeling really good inside about your GM's frugality for extra style points) than taking the chance on winning and having proven ace-level talent (but feeling bad about having a lighter wallet for taking risk with available dollars). OK, got it.
  17. Yes, as demonstrated previously. And what, exactly, is "doing right by the affiliate" by signing Eppley or retaining Martis?
  18. I'm well aware of this situation with the lifers------And I'm willing to ask the question why teams are willing to have so many guys litter their roster and spend year after year after year with the detritus. It has been said that the Twins purposefully avoid sending prospects to Rochester because the culture there is rather negative with the guys who have never quite been good enough to make the show. In this particular case, signing an Eppley or retaining a Martis seem like a waste of time and money with worthy arms in New Britain and all of the extra arms signed in the lower parts of the organization.
  19. Probably more like weak pools and bad luck. But seriously, they certainly had plenty of outfield prospects at least somewhat comparable to Myers to trade to the Rays to get him. The real question is what were the Twins willing to pay Shields to extend his contract beyond 2014- signing him out to age 36- or through 2018, this would have put a legit ace in the front of the rotation right as the next wave is ready to take off.
  20. The loyalists are rather prone at missing the obvious. I never cease to be amazed at the willingness of so many of the "faithful" for their tacit acceptance of decade-long stretches of wallowings in ineptitude or mediocrity.
  21. The poster in question said the exact same thing last December before the "big acquisition of a pretty good pitcher who is better than his numbers indicate."
  22. Bird, you assured us that you would be very disappointed and be willing to criticize the Twins FO if they failed to deliver in the offseason. Of the factors you mentioned, only one is very meaningful. There has been plenty of room in the payroll in the past 2 offseasons to add quality arms to the starting rotation and the bank didn't have to be broken to do so, weak pools and bad luck have had nothing to do with it.
  23. If memory serves me....hasn't shedding payroll been a Twins priority in recent times?
  24. Didn't I read that the Roc. was playing with a 24-man roster?
  25. Stephen Drew, who signed a one-year deal- definitely would have passed there. Scutaro would have been a nice upgrade, but unsignable by the Twins at a 3 year contract he got with the Giants and age 37.
