  1. This is satire, right? He just did ridiculously unprecedented things in a true pitcher's league. In a league which usually is fortunate to have ONE guy OPS over .900 and one or two guys with a SLG over .500, Sano leaves to go to AA with a .1079 OPS line and a .655 SLG---yep, ridiculous numbers. I think there's a fighting chance he's going to make more than a couple "dents" in Eastern League OF walls and AA pitcher's ERA marks.
  2. With Morales moving up as well, might there be "the Buxton move" to A+ announced after tomorrow's FSN=televised game?
  3. Yeah. It's not like someone is blocking him at 1B in New Britain.
  4. Not real impressive. Mechanics were all over the place. Looked very hittable ( a lot of hard-hit balls were hit right at position players- only one K), and very wild (65 pitches, only 33 strikes and 2 BB),. He was basically one batter away from getting removed in the 2nd inning. He does appear to have a live arm, but it will be a major work in progress once he signs.
  5. You capsulized my frustrations with the current situation in 2 sentences. Why, "why?", indeed. We need an "imagination" infusion in Twinsland.
  6. And how about not letting Torii Hunter sign with the Tigers for 2 years? Back-up center fielder, starting RF and the #2 hole in the lineup taken care of, and a set of huge holes shot in both the Tigers defense and a set-up guy in front of Cabrera and Fielder.
  7. Right... But I like Willihammer's stating of the unmentionable obvious about "the elephant in the room"...it didn't, and it doesn't, have to be this way... where pigs and ice are concerned.
  8. Thanks, Brad. The giddy-meter was set on 11, and this might be the one time to speculate that maybe there's nothing wrong with that.
  9. It's true, I freely admit to being an unabashed-Buxton-booster. Regarding Baxendale...I'm bullish on his potential, too... Let's just say I'm a big Baxendale future back-end SP backer. Bux and Bax are going to be boffo...book it.
  10. Signing Sanchez would have been a shot across the Tigers bow. Though they are clearly odd-on favorites, there are chinks in their armor. Their closer is awful, their #5 starter is awful. Their defense is better than last year, but still sub-standard. They are getting negative WAR results from the DH and Catcher. They still would be likely AL Central winners, but Sanchez fronting the Twins rotation from April 1, with Gibson and later Meyer coming in to bolster him, and at least we're talking about more than Joe Benson on June 3.
  11. Thanks righty. I plead guilty to the charge of skimming and hit and run posting.
  12. Yes, the starting pitching staff situation has not been adequately addressed for yet another year. Unlike many on this board, I don't think it's reasonable to have to wait until 2015- in a brand new ballpark, with a core of 2 former MVPs and 3 potential All Stars trying to bust the doors down to get into the lineup, and crying poor and selling to the public that coming in at around 60% of potentially available payroll dollars is an acceptable trade-off to having "patience" until 2015 or beyond. I noticed you left the Red Sox out of your response. I'll take what Cleveland did, at least they are making the effort to get relevant with an intelligent plan and intelligent management to implemet the plan. I would be far more forgiving of the Indians if I was a fan if they fail this year than I am for the Twins for barely make an effort at competing this year.
  13. 1) You just stated one of the most archetypal distinctions without a difference of all time. You agree with the opposition that "we don't know" yet you and your side continue to claim that Butera is a "premium defensive catcher." 2) "Failed in the majors"? A mere 74 September PAs with a .672 OPS can by no stretch of the facts be termed a "failure". The issue of Benson's health remains to be answered, you failed to note that Benson's AA numbers after the demotion were just as bad as his AAA numbers- and AA was a level that he had clearly mastered just the year previous (2011). 3) This shoe actually fits better on the other foot. After listing 3 "mights" around Benson and omitting verifiable facts that do support him....It seems the "opinions having been created" are the only "facts" currently being used in supporting Butera.
  14. DJ Baxendale? I thought he would have been a shoo-in to be in the top 4- in his 4 May starts in Ft Myers, 28 IP/0.00 ERA!/0.61 WHIP/7.39 K*9- and then promoted to AA.
  15. Thanks...I think? I hope I'm wrong in my prediction, it just seems that if a little more of a concerted effort and financial commitment had been made in addressing the holes in the pitching staff and position players- this story would never need to be written. I give Ryan and Gardy credit in changing up some of their old-way, on- and off-field strategies... add the fresh approach and just another couple key cheap position players and 2 healthy and legitimate mid-to-second tier starters and this boat stays afloat well into September, right in the thick of the AL Central Regatta.
  16. I know exactly what was stated. The statement was midleading and/or useless, at best. It is pretty much agreed on both sides of the debate that the defensive component of the "advanced statistical metric" is useless.
  17. Well, first off, that's 4 questions, not one! Upset that they DIDN'T tank? Huh? Nope. What would have made me happy was for the Twins to do what Boston and Cleveland attempted to do in the offseason. Both of those teams cleared extraordinarily significant payroll room to do a remake/makeover/hole-filling... while maintaining their solid core players and soon-up-and-coming prospects- all without breaking the bank to do so (like the Dodgers and Angels did). The positive spin-take on the Twins season thus far taken by the OP is akin to being on a clipper ship in the middle of the Indian Ocean 3 days out to sea and trying to spin positive on the favorable winds and plenty of less-than-tasty MRE rations while ignoring the obvious facts that the boat's radio is Kaput, the auxiliary motor is dangerously low on fuel and the ship is sinking at a rate that guarantees the clipper ship will be at the bottom of the sea in 2 days.
  18. Exactly. 3 extended and all-expense-paid major league tryouts-- while still earning his contract. This isn't exactly 18th Century indentured servitude here.
  19. Yes. When arguments are actually being made on this thread that Drew Butera = Kurt Suzuki, we definitely need more educational efforts to dissuade this line of thinking.
  20. Des Moines, huh? Talk about almost coming full circle....!
  21. First off, johnny dakota is technically off on age 30 by all of 2 months (Drewbie is 30 on August 9th). Second off, if your question was posed to me, I would either reply: 1) "None of the Above", or, 2) Ask for more information- because I would have logically concluded that someone was trying to "pull one over" on me.
  22. Do I detect any underlying groundswell for the call to the Twins for reclaiming Burnett? He basically has been given 3 full-salaried & all-expenses-paid tryouts- and picked up oodles of extra frequent flyer miles as a bonus. What needs to be fixed, and how so?
  23. The opposing point of view still hasn't presented it. They have dismissed the actual defensive data available as "not meaningful" and admitted that it is impossible to quantify what a "premium defensive catcher" would be- and then contradictorily stated that the Twins FO values Butera as such- classically, and apparently unknowingly, invoking Nichols' Law of Catcher Defense...... so we must learn to like it.
