  1. I've often thought that Plouffie would be a perfect get for the Orioles, who seem to take collecting former Twins as an obsession. Oh, and Danny Valencia might also join the future Oriole 30 HR club at DH. He's currently OPSing .960 in 55 PAs after his recent call-up.
  2. Thanks for your obviously hard work in putting this article together. It shows what has been frequently happening to Sano last year and this year already at the lower levels. Nice stat on the pitches per PA. It looks like he's going to get a lot of practice trying to hit for power going the opposite way, like Cabrera does. I guess what we have to ask about plate protection is, does he need more than having just Pinto batting behind him? Is Kennys Vargas also needed in the 5th spot in the order, as well?
  3. Richardson is going to be 30 years of age in October, and relies primarily on speed to make his mark. He's never been close to sticking long-term with a major league roster (9 games as a late-inning replacement with Atlanta in 2011 is the sum total of his major league career). This whole discussion is a blind alley.
  4. Oh yes, let's already punt on next year as well. How do you propose that he's going to hit 200 innings next year if he's not with the club on opening day, and effective enough to hit 200 innings? Let's not really see if he's legit or not before we absolutely have to do so, how about until 2015 when we know/don't know? we'll be competitive? The year he turns 28! Hey, it worked for Deduno! That way, we can get another 2 years, or even 3 if we avoid Super 2 and wait until June of 2015. Heck, we have to be considerate to the affiliates, why not let's make him the King of AAAA pitchers?
  5. Nick asked for what negative consequences would be incurred by not calling him up. I noticed you didn't answer that question... If he's not going to get the ~55-60 innings he has left on his limited schedule, with the Twins this year, than they may as well protect his arb value yet again in 2014. Maybe by one year from today, we can take the chance and oh so gingerly see if he's ready to implement the "long term plan" most efficiently!
  6. Good points. But here we go again. It's going to take an epic collapse for the Twins to admit their mistakes in tapping these two to be their "guys". And then you have the consolation prize in Escobar from "The Trade." BTW, after another strong start by Francisco Liriano tonight, here are his numbers: 2.44 ERA/1.94 FIP/1.25 WHIP/10.31 K*9/.225 OBA. And yet to give up a HR.
  7. I see, but Escobar and Carroll are matching Florimon's regression. Kind of a mess.
  8. Mejia looks like yet another Twins international man of mystery. Do you have a report on whether he has the chops to eventually be good enough to start at SS or 2B? He's still only 21 and seems to have once again hit the ground running at the top of the order in High A. I noticed that, besides playing virtually every on-field position except catcher and pitcher in his pro career thus far, the plurality of his playing time was at SS- until this season- where it seems the organization is now giving him more extended time at Second. Interesting take on Salcedo. it looks like he hit his ceiling, which was more like a wall, as a SP last year at Ft Myers. Has he made significant adjustments in mechanics, pitch selection or new pitches that warrant giving him another look?
  9. Interesting topic, but these 2 comments don't square.
  10. Frankly, I doubt that there will be a cascade of oohing and ahhhhing possibilities this year. And that is hardly the point for getting him up to the Twins. He is on limited innings and this is the perfect situation to get his feet wet and help him prepare for opening day next season. It's like anything you do in life that's challenging, get some practice and continued reps against the real thing, you can find out now what you need to work on and address both this season and in the offseason. At his current 85.2 IP already, the opportunities for doing so are rapidly dwindling.
  11. The defensive backstop whiz for Roc., Son of Sal, with his 2nd Passed Ball, that led to a run scored. Hitless at the plate again, now down to .125BA in SSS. I've got to think the first live body coming off the Red Wing DL or from AA will take either Vasquez or Martis's spot on the Roc. roster, another night of bad outings by the duo.
  12. They won't, because they can't. They are up on tip-toes on a tipsy 3-legged stool still convinced that a Zito-style signing is the death-knell to the Twins franchise.
  13. Hmmm, what an oddly and strangely unusual occurrence around here...
  14. Baby steps, I'll take it. Plenty of time in a low-pressure situation to get the tryke back on the track.
  15. The coast is apparently clear on Super 2 arbitration issues, as Wil Myers will be in the starting lineup tomorrow night against Boston. Wil Myers Called to Action By Tampa Bay Rays | Bleacher Report How long before Gibson gets his own call now?
  16. Buxton on the 5 year plan? We are not amused.
  17. There's an article waiting to be written, rank-ordering the Twins depth chart for "consistency", I'd wager that whoever writes that article will stumble upon evidence strongly suggesting that Kyle Gibson is, in fact, one of the most consistent Twins SPs.on that chart.
  18. The same could be said for Hicks on working on some things to be a more effective leadoff batter, switch-hitter and defensive centerfielder. Why doesn't Hicksie just stay down until he's a game-changer, too?
  19. Anxious to hear about Melotakis. Is he still the #2 pitching prospect behind Berrios at Cedar Rapids? What has happened with his strikeout pitch and all of his wildness this season?
  20. Again, this wasn't the deal that your side is arguing, the Royals also got Wade Davis and a pretty reliable SS, Elliott Johnson. And under my proposal, Shields would have been signed through age 36, not 37. The players you propose trading will return virtually nothing. Gibson and Meyer are two very good prospects, the Twins don't even see fit to sending Gibson out on his career at age 26- so yeah, they're "counting on them", but neither is a sure thing at this point. You have to gamble from all possible sources in acquiring pitching talent, particularly when you can't develop it yourself and are unwilling to pay to get above-average SPs, let alone Ace-level through free agency. Right now, the holes in this club, even with the offseason acquisitions, are still gaping, at important positions, especially starting pitching.
  21. Again, it's gong to be very painful for the Twins to do what has to be done to make this team a worthy playoff contender. As of now, your side is wishing for the magic beans to appear, so we can steal another Johan Santana from someone. I just don't see that as a logical outcome.
  22. I've never once said that the Twins acquire Shields to win in 2013. It takes years of patient building as players and situations change enough for the right set of pieces to be available and put in place. 2015 is about the optimum time for the Twins to put it all together, but the table-setting to get there should be happening now, not then. I would take issue that the Twins are set up beautifully for the future. There are great prospects that we all eagerly await. But there are still huge holes in the field that don't have obvious go-to prospects, and the Starting Pitching is currently a miasma of mediocrity with many question marks in the minors. (Why aren't they finding out about Gibson in this throwaway year and instead, wasting innings on guys who won't be here, either next year or the year after?).
  23. You know me well enough that I worship the Rays front office and have begged over and over for the Twins to hire away some of their bright young minds. I most certainly have not argued that the Rays received the short end of the stick. It's the deal that they always look to make. It's in their basic MO. The Rays didn't hesitate because they always look to anticipate trading their big-time stars years before they have to. Unlike the Twins, who caught in their own potential FA inertia, let their stars walk away for nothing, or practically nothing- the Rays actually have a solid plan in place. Look at Price, they're already shopping him around. The Rays made a good deal for the Rays, It's what they do. It doesn't mean that it can't be a good deal for the trading team in exploiting the Rays' inherent and only weakness, financial. For the deal to work, it would have had to been incumbent on locking up Shields long-term, if in this case, the Twins sniffed around, and found out that it wasn't possible, of course, they did the right thing by walking, no running, away from the deal as fast as possible. As I said, the Royals are DUMB, really.
  24. If you continue to contend that Shields is on borrowed time and about to have a Dave Dravecky-like-experience at any moment (sorry, I know a took some strawman license to illustrate the point;)), how is it that you now suggest that 29 GMs are going to line up to give him "piles of money" in 2014?
