  1. Only reason he should get a chance is if there is no one better. He's still young, but I don't see how he could improve. Ultimately the coaching failed as Kwak pointed out. I'm not angry at Hendriks one bit.
  2. I see it as a PR move. I'll believe it when I see that the Twins spend money.
  3. A little low on the position players. Arcia, Dozier, Plouffe, Presley/Mastroianni, and Florimon will probably be back. Willingham and Doumit too if they're not traded.
  4. I think the Twins should keep Mauer behind the plate for the entirety of his career. He doesn't want to move and he shouldn't. He hardly has any value if you move him somewhere else. You all think this concussion thing is a big deal, but guess what? It's just as likely at any other position. Corey Koskie and Justin Morneau both got them. In your 30s, anything can ruin your career and I just don't see a significant risk reduction that offsets team value. I like Pinto a lot and I think he'll be a good player, but I wouldn't move Mauer just because of team depth. This is a HOF career guy and keeping him at catcher gives him more potential to seal the deal. Plus, I don't like the Twins paying 23 million for a slightly above average first baseman instead of an elite catcher.
  5. The Twins are just 5-15 in their last 20 games. This has been a pathetic finish to what looked like a team that made a slight improvement. I'm so thankful Sano and company didn't get to play with these guys. Does anyone think this will carry over to next year? And does anyone think we'll win another game this year?
  6. Thanks for sharing that Punto link. TT has some great satire and geeky humor that I love. Scott Ulger's "quote" was icing on the cake!
  7. Get Gardy 1,000. I would hate for him not to get it even though I want him gone. At one point he was good for us, but now not so much. Still a Twins legend.
  8. Dougie said he wants Pierzynski as his bench coach (when he retires). I'm not sure a lot of us would be ok with that.
  9. Priority #1 is grabbing Tanaka. I'd lock up Kazmir to a 2 year deal in addition and take a flyer on Phil Hughes for a year+option. 3 pitchers who have some good upside for us. Upside is what we need because we have none.
  10. I actually didn't think Hicks' season was a disaster at all. He showed more power than expected, he led the league in outfield assists with his cannon arm, had a fair share of web gems (and improved defensively), and wasn't much below average after April. 3 acceptable tools shown. We know he's fast and the baserunning will get better with practice too. He didn't draw enough walks either, but he's proven he can be patient and thankfully quite a bit of his strikeouts were caught looking. Better to have someone who's picky, then someone who hacks away. Overall, the main concern is will he hit for batting average? And judging from this season's reaction to Hicks, that's the most important tool. Dropping the switch hitting might be the best bet that he'll hit over .250. Ideally I'd like to get .260/.340/.450 or better from him in the future. I'm much more concerned about Gibson, since having him fail isn't an option. If Anderson continues instructing him and the rest our rotation, we have even more reason to worry. Gibson was very unlucky as it was posted prior and perhaps the issues were only minor. On both's behalf, it's really the 3rd or 4th season we'll know what we have. Unless they pull a "Hendriks" when we know sooner rather than later.
  11. the Twins are likely to have no one on the roster with a 20 HR season. Doumit, Willingham, Arcia, Plouffe, Morneau (during his tenure), and Dozier are all in that 10-20 range, but all are a ways away. Dozier would have to hit 3 to prevent this from happening.
  12. I agree. 7th seems like a great spot for him.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if Hicks is next year's Dozier.
  14. I think we should almost leave it vacant with how things have turned out. The best candidate is Josmil Pinto, but he'll be a rookie next year too and has been limited to under 50 PAs. Yet still he's nearly our WAR leader (.1 behind the much more played Arcia) and is the only rookie who has positive WAA. Albers has been pretty good and I wouldn't mind if he got it either.
  15. I was really impressed by what I saw with him. His delivery is silky smooth, he has a high release point, and hides the ball extremely well. His breaking stuff is fairly deceptive too.
  16. You're just providing us all with false hope. The Twins are too scared to spend money.
  17. I'm sick of seeing Shairon Martis in the Twins organization. Promoting him provokes me even more.
  18. Looks like we'll get around 70. Fangraphs has us at 71 and I said 71 to start, so looking good!
  19. I'm trying to find it and I just can't. I remember it was glunn who started it and it had a poll included too. I think it would be interesting to revisit since the season is coming to a close.
  20. I'm not giving up on Plouffe. He's got the ability to be a good player. Why give up when when he can play nearly anywhere where we're weakest? After giving up on Carlos Gomez, David Ortiz, and JJ Hardy I'm not ready to move on from Plouffe when the talent is there. Give him one more year. He's only had 1,200ABs.
  21. Everyone keeps saying how big a change this is, but he's already swinging well right handed. A lot of people are making it out as if it's harder than teaching a same side hitter TO switch hit. The pitcher is the only thing that's really changing. Hicks knows how to hit right handed and it will help him. He'll just have to make the adjustments to the pitcher, not himself.
  22. He's gone this offseason anyway. Although, I would be excited by a trade because the chances of resigning him would be really slim.
  23. I say give him half a season in AA next year (just enough to push service time back a year). Then when he's done crushing the Eastern League, bring him up to the majors for the last half.
  24. Sano should try to play 3rd, but I would say elite third basemen really aren't rare anymore. In fact, I'd say elite first basemen are rarer. Right now, there is a big talent wave at the hot corner. Miguel Cabrera, Manny Machado, Josh Donaldson, Adrian Beltre, David Wright, and Evan Longoria are all at an elite level. Then there's a good group below them with Seager, Uribe, Arenado, Headley, Prado, Lawrie, Alvarez, and Zimmerman. That's 15/30 starters playing at a high level at 3rd base with 6 of them being elite. At first base, I'd only say Votto, Goldschmitt, and Davis are playing elite. That's 6 to 3 favoring 3rd. There's a quite a few good first basemen below them though. Swisher, Napoli, Craig, Trumbo, Freeman, Encarnacion, Belt, and Gonzalez add 8 more for 11/30. There's quite a few more great athletes playing 3rd base in the minors too and I think the trend will continue for some time. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some more Kris Bryant types being drafted high. What's most interesting to look at is that every elite third baseman is on a contender (except David Wright).
