Is this some kind of joke?! When Todd makes the HOF, I think it's pretty obvious that he'll be wearing a Padres' hat. Unreal that this is even discussable.
I just don't see the Twins landing him. Look into it, but don't get too serious. There are question marks about his bat and his glove. I'm sure the glove will come with given time, but I seriously wonder if he has the ability to get on base.
The Vikings coaching staff is full of idiots who have made no progress with Ponder from last year (regressed even) and now they're too stubborn to try someone else. You have to give it to him though. In all the years of Viking's QB mediocrity, this guy takes the cake. Spielman needs to be shown the door. I think Minnesota should have went after Chad Henne. If they don't pursue a new QB in the draft or acquire another viable starter, I'm done with this team. I've reached my breaking point and can only take so much crap from a hapless organization. I'll put my attention elsewhere.
I had an opinion going in and now have a different one after reading. That alone makes it a good article for me. I never considered this and want to see him DH and play RF a little more.
I agree that everyone is undervaluing pitchers too. I'd say 10-13 million for Marcum and Bedard 5-8. That's still enough for both of those two and possibly a pitcher on the cheap. The Twins should be willing to spend a little more than 25 million.
After two years then, who is your outfield, with Revere and Willingham gone? Hicks, Arcia, Benson, Rosario, Roberts, there is so many possibilities....
I wonder how long of an extension the Twins would have to give Mauer for other teams to finally stop asking about him? 32 years doesn't seem to do.....
Six for sure in most top 100s and 7 in a few that are willing to include Gibson. I'd say we have a top 10 farm system, but the Twins could still use more pitching obviously.
2013 Midseason 1. Hicks/8 S 2. Mauer/2 L 3. Willingham/7 R 4. Parmelee/3 L 5. Youkilis/5 R 6. Arcia/9 L 7. Doumit/DH/Rover S 8. Plouffe/4 R 9. Drew/6 R Bench is good enough to include: BE Carroll BE Mastroianni BE Revere BE Herrmann
That's pretty incredible, but I would suspect most top 100s wouldn't include Kyle Gibson so soon. 7 has to be one of the top 3. I remember last year the Royals had 5 or 6 in Baseball America's. That's a VERY high ranking for Rosario as well.
Well not really, it just would have made it look better. I don't like straight up trades and I think it's important to squeeze out every last bit of value you can get. Meyer has a ton of upside, but being age 23 in A ball doesn't impress me.
Now that Denard Span is gone (the Twins FINALLY DID SOMETHING!!), do you expect them to still be listening to offers on Ben Revere? Better worded- Since his asking price is probably higher, is it too high now that no one will give up too much? And Part Two: Does this mean anything for other notable trade pieces like Justin Morneau and Josh Willingham?
It should be Joe Mauer, but it's likely it will be whoever gets tossed into the middle infield. I'm more interested in who gets the new outfield position. I'm almost certain it will be Chris Parmelee, but I also wonder if there's a chance Arcia or Hicks earn it in Spring Training. If Morneau is traded too, that makes predicting what we see in April really difficult at this point. Trading Span is a sign the Twins will likely be competing for 2014, but to compete in two years, it's important to add good players this year.
Currently fighting back tears right now...oh no here they come. Good luck to my once favorite Twin and new favorite former Twin. Pretty good deal both ways, but I wish we could have added some marginal prospects to that package. Nationals just got a fantastic player and their lineup got so much better.
