  1. 3 more days with Hochevar could actually really pay dividends for the long run. I like saying his last name. I seriously have no idea why, but it hasn't been affecting my daily activities so I think I'm ok.
  2. Unfortunately, we all know the Twins won't be able to help themselves. But really, he's not terrible. Chen is generally below average which, in fact, does rank above supreme mediocrity.
  3. Baseball is much more of a fan's sport. The constant transactions, advanced stats, and minor league system make it the favorite sport of analytic people like myself.
  4. That's pretty incredible to have 7 different guys in the last 7 years starting at SS Opening Day. It's pretty likely the Twins will next season too.
  5. We're torn on Twins shirt designs. You'd think a Joe Mauer one would be an obvious choice but we're a little gun-shy because the guy gets so much (undeserved) negative press. We'll be rolling out new designs for the upcoming season, though. Expect to see new stuff in January and here's hoping the Twins sign a free agent that gets the fanbase excited about the team again. As for Scott Diamond, if he starts out strong in 2013, I think a design is in order for the guy. Right now, I think both Parker and I are a little skeptical of his performance in the coming season. Anything Nikola Pekovic I'd probably buy.
  6. We could bring back more European "fans" to the website with "Hala Twins" or "Hala T-Wolves" shirts.
  7. I don't want what Bud Selig wants. This will create further imbalance in the MLB. While I don't necessarily think a salary cap is needed, I think they at least need to keep it within some sort of percentile. California has 5 baseball teams already and now a developing superpower? People on the coasts get everything!
  8. I was hoping more people would like the trolling I did here. I also have to say there is no way the Twins pursue Raburn and Tigers fans are thrilled. A minor league deal or something would be alright on my terms, but overall the feeling is STAY AWAY!
  9. He's basically a do-it-all type player statistically and very versatile in the field.
  10. I agree 100%. While I don't probably don't know as much about Figgins as Dave, the absolute last thing I want to do is add more players who can't hit for power. Spend some money on Youkilis for 3B please. He will bring some fans back and his right handedness will be greatly appreciated in the lineup at Target Field.
  11. For Slama's sake I hope he gets picked in the rule V......anyone except the White Sox is fine.
  12. If the Twins ownership refuses to set a budget of around $112.5 or around $110 million I will feel like the Twins are taking the fans for a ride. The $100 million budget last year + the Pohlad's "50%" spending on the new TV deal should put us there. Should spending go up when we aren't a good team? Maybe not, but consider this. Pohlad would be making more money when the team is bad. Is that right?ABSOLUTELY not.
  13. At his age and his track record, he's certainly earned the right to skip High A. Considering that Ft. Myers has been a difficult location for recent hitting prospects like Morales, Hicks, and Herrmann (2010), it might end up being better to skip that bump in the road for New Britain. I'm going to assume NBR will be a hitter's league next year too. If he can do well enough in New Britain too, maybe there is a chance he goes to Rochester. The Twins really haven't been challenging Roberts and I'd like to see them do so.
  14. Beresford is 23 with a year of AA under his belt. In what world is Beresford "on the old side?" The average hitter in the Eastern League in 2012 was 24.6. He signed so young out of Australia which is why became a free agent so young. Most around him have always said he has a chance to be a big league regular "if he gets a little bigger." Each year, he has been able to get a little bit bigger. So, we'll see what happens in 2013. Generally, actual prospects seem to be earlier in their 20s at AA. The average is undoubtedly skewed a bit by fillers and late joiners, like Chris Collabello, who aren't going to get much attention. I guess 23 isn't bad, but if he progresses to the majors, it would probably be at age 25 or later. Off the top of my head, I don't know any successful position players that begin their major league time then.
  15. Beresford is okay, but he is on the old side and doesn't have much for tools. I don't like players who don't have tools! He's probably more of a filler as is Christian. I'd be in awe if someone used a pick on either. Very unlikely that one of them would cut it in the show. Would be a waste of a 25 man roster spot. Not looking closely at the stats, but is Christian pretty much another Dinkelman?
  16. Escobar likely can't provide either so I don't see why he'd be worth it.
  17. I looked at the title and thought..."Hhmmm. What are you getting at...?"
  18. My favorite nickname in all of baseball. My reason for clicking as well. I just love the old time creativity. "Rajah" Hornsby is another one I really like.
  19. We are going to see a lot of him now, but not back in a Twins uniform.
  20. So they are basically the Florida Marlins again. Pretty much the same team without last seasons free agent signings.
  21. That's the risk you take when you post something like this. He doesn't necessarily have to read the posts ripping him either, but he certainly has lost our trust if there was any to begin with. Personally, I think he has a great grip on new world statistics and prospects in the system.
  22. So payroll guarantees not only regular season wins but playoff success? Good to know; seems I've read a bunch on this site and elsewhere that was wrong about those things. Generally, the more money spent on something, the better it is. It may not always be true if the cheap end of totem pole spent the money more wisely. If I go to the store and want to buy a camera. A $199 one would have more capabilities than a $79 one would; therefore, it would be better. Same holds true for baseball. I pay a player more money because he will do a better job. Common sense. And where is the "guarantee" in twinsnorth49's quote. Seems like you are twisting his words... There are reasonable posters on TD and then there are unreasonable ones. Guess where you belong?
  23. Actually that's two "RANDOM" World Series wins in his first five seasons as GM, sunshine. Maybe the Twins can find a lucky GM like that too someday. And if you think the AL East was a cakewalk during his best seasons, I think you're in the minority. I never hinted at how many there were from what I wrote and I know the R. Sox won two, DUH. Calm down sweetheart, I could do without the derogatory nicknames. I don't see what I've said that's anger provoking at all. You should go ahead and read The Twins Binary article posted today if you want some facts about the playoffs. Like: being a 95 game winner versus an 85 game winner – affords a team almost no advantage in terms of advancing in the playoffs." coming from the .07 correlation of regular season wins to playoff ones. Get into the playoffs and you have just as good a shot as anyone to win the WS. The Blue Jays, Orioles, and Rays also had some of their worst seasons during the early 2000s and they had no where near the payroll as the Red Sox.
