Dylan Bundy has been promoted to the Orioles just in time for the playoff race. The 19 year old, considered unanimously to be at least baseball's #2 prospect, had been pitching in AA prior to the call-up. Do you like the Orioles all-out approach or the conservative method displayed by the Nationals?
Denard is 30th among all MLB (13th in AL) batters and Joe Mauer is 33rd. Span is one spot higher than Hamilton and the 5th among Centerfielders (Trout, McCutchen, Bourn, Jackson) . More of statement, but I don't think anyone will offer that kind of value back for him.
I hope Nate Roberts skips A+ and goes straight to AA. They have been extremely passive in promoting him. He's always been just a little too old for his league.
Gardy is fine going forward. He is very well respected around the league. Axing him would be using an accomplished manager as a scapegoat for the team's internal problems. It would be very unjust.
Priorities: 1. Sign Two FAs Starting Pitchers+Scott Baker 2. Aggressively trade Morneau (eat salary), Revere, and Willingham next deadline 3. Sign Maicer Izturis NO CONTRACTS LONGER THAN 3 YEARS!! A team like this by season's end: 1. Hicks CF 2. Span LF 3. Mauer C 4. Parmelee 1B 5. Doumit DH 6. Arcia RF 7. Plouffe 3B 8. Florimon SS 9. Izturis 2B UTIL Esky 3rdC/5th OF Herrmann BE Carroll 4thOF Mastroianni SP Marcum SP Gibson SP Baker SP Bedard SP Diamond Spot Starter/RHP: Cole Devries RHP Burton RHP Fien RHP Waldrop LHP Duensing LHP Perkins LHP Robertson Goodbye Swarzak and Burnett The rotation improves, but Gibson, Bedard, and Baker are question marks. It wouldn't hurt to add a former starter on a minor league contract for some depth. The lineup takes a step back and the bullpen should be fine. Not a contending team and it should be just under .500.
The Hall of Fame is sort of a joke regardless. There are many players inducted who were not good let alone great and many players who should have been inducted who weren't. The voters on this really aren't the brightest bulbs. That said, neither Morris or McGriff are HOF worthy.
The home plate umpire was awful and inconsistent last night. I was especially mad when he didn't called a ball on what should have been a strike em out throw em out, but unfortunately it was a walk. That made Hendriks throw many more pitches in the first (27) after being robbed of 2 outs in one play. Swing track had the pitch in the zone pretty clearly (wasn't touching the edge).
Span, Willingham, Arcia, Hicks, Parmelee, Benson, etc. There are just too many players that will be better options than Revere that it makes sense to sell on him high. I just don't like the way some see Revere as a staple for the next few years.
Good site for statistics, but not for rankings. If Benson and Salcedo were performing, the Twins would have a top 10 system. Low on pitching, but TONS of good bats. Arcia should be in the rankings at 75 at least and Hicks should certainly be top 40. Hicks only looks like he could be the best leadoff man in the game, has all five tools+plate discipline, and exploded this year.
In terms of personality, I really like Span's competitive edge and he is possibly the 'nicest' guy on the team. Revere is just too happy go lucky. Revere's defense is a little overrated. He only has a .6 dWar. Ben doesn't even eclipse a .700 OPS.
He has zero power. Not even close to Torii Hunter. I see him as a Juan Pierre comp. and a really good 4th Outfielder. Span has been a better player this season and probably would fetch more. I just see Revere is a block to Hicks and Arcia for some reason as well since all three are young.
