  1. LOL. As long as those knee surgeries don't come back to haunt you now.
  2. Johan Santana tore his Achilles and is out for the year For all you youngsters out there, you hit your mid-30's and its downhill. Really sorry to read this about Johan.
  3. RandBall ‏@RandBall 18m Jason Kubel has neither an RBI nor an extra base hit since May 1. He does have 29 Ks in 65 ABs in that stretch.
  4. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 14m Arcia said the cage work went well. He plans to hit on the field. Ankle is taped up pretty tight. Would assume DH at best Saturday.
  5. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 20m Arcia said he tested his right ankle with some light running today. Indicated that went only so-so. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 22m Oswaldo Arcia is hitting in the cage now if ankle feels ok, he might hit on field. Saturday return possible, he said
  6. Well, if your standard for Gardy-Speak is tactful and meaningful, you're better off not listening. :s-instagib:
  7. Twins trying to set a record for how many consecutive college relievers they can draft????
  8. I think it would take substantially more. This article from Sports On Earth dissected the Singleton contract: http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/78425188/jon-singleton-astros-rookie-projection-10-million-contract#!VxKMM Note that Singleton was the 82nd ranked prospect at the end of last season. With Arcia, he was the 41st ranked prospect prior to last season and played 97 games last year and 15 games (so far) in 2014 at the major league level. Probability of success has to be significantly higher than Singleton's. In addition, the Astros tied Singleton's call-up date to signing the contract (thus avoiding Super 2 status problems, etc.) Since Arcia already has some pretty significant major league service time, he is in a different place than Singleton. I'm not sure what it would take to buy out his pre-arb and arbitration years but I've got a hunch it would take a significantly better deal than that extended to Singleton.
  9. Interesting analysis of the probabilities re the contract: http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/78425188/jon-singleton-astros-rookie-projection-10-million-contract#!VwKyj The interesting thing though, is that while teams may minimize their risks by entering into more of these contracts, the player still has that interest in guaranteeing his long-term future (even if he could have gotten more without the contract).
  10. And no, Flash takes no offense to the fact that Nick lists another MLB player as his favorite. It was the same way with Dee. "My oldest said, 'Daddy, you wouldn't be mad at me if Jimmy Rollins was my favorite player, would you?'" Tom Gordon said, laughing. "I said, 'No, as long as he's not your favorite father.' I think that helped Nick build up the nerve to tell me Derek Jeter is his favorite player." http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11038984/minnesota-twins-selection-nick-gordon-emotional Sounds like a great family. Look forward to seeing what how he develops.
  11. Always a Twins in my heart.
  12. Adding this here just for heck of it: Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 1h The Tigers have a minus-50 run differential in their last 17 games . . . Folks, that is hard to do.
  13. Here's where we differ significantly. I started posting about the need for a rebuild on October 10, 2010 immediately after the Twins had been eliminated from the playoffs in 3 straight games (again). At that point, it was apparent to me that this team needed to do something very, very different.
  14. Therein lies the quandary, though. We heard repeatedly that the Rays advanced DY too quickly through the system. Should Arcia be spending more time in the minors developing his pitch recognition or can he do that with extra work with Brunansky? We love the power and punch he brings to this line-up but is it the best thing for him developmentally (and ultimately the best thing for the Twins as the seasons go on)????
  15. To the best of my knowledge, Gardenhire did not sign Correia to a 2-year contract. Nor can Gardenhire make the decision to "Marquis" him and eat his salary. I wouldn't expect Gardenhire to say anything different than he did in public. I do hope that isn't the same thing he is saying in meetings with the FO.
  16. He's 23 years old and came up pretty quickly. Give him a little more time to work on recognizing pitches outside the zone and to developing plate discipline. It isn't something I would expect to come all at once.
  17. I'm not sure that losing 253 with a pretty clearly articulated plan is that much worse than losing 222 with a bit of a muddled mess. It does look like both teams may be starting to turn things around a little. The Astros are 10-3 over their last 13 games while the Twins are .500 over their last 10 and hovering near .500 for the season. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. And I'm really hoping that Phil Hughes can continue with his streak of stellar performances.
  18. Well, ugh ... there goes .500.
  19. This issue is gathering steam not just in the courts but in the court of public opinion ... which is often more effective. Maybe they can shame mlb into that extra 1% at some point.
  20. Burton's replacement .... the sooner the better.
  21. Calling the ASPCA .... excessive cruelty.
  22. Those people on the draft day thread appear to be really into this.
  23. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 8m Arcia is day to day with the right ankle sprain. Not sure if he did it on the slide or not.
  24. Literally .... let's just hope whatever the injury is to his leg isn't serious.
  25. Speculation: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 12s Arcia appeared to grab right quad as he hobbled off field. He is now hobbling through dugout. Obvious pain. Can't imagine he stays in.
