  1. They should just put that dartboard face in the centerfield stands and give him something to aim for.
  2. Andrew Walter ‏@MNfanfromafar · 49m Good read about Nick Burdi, @Twins 2nd round pick: http://www.courier-journal.com/story/uofl-beat/2014/06/07/nick-burdi-pissed-about-draft/10116305/ … h/t @BaseballSwagger I hope Burdi is p*ssed enough to get himself to the bigs this summer!!!
  3. 3:00 today for the announcement. Done deal ... and the first of the 1st rounders to get it done.
  4. If he had an option left, couldn't they have simply withdrawn him if someone claimed him? That would seem to make a big difference from a player w/o options.
  5. But also, he missed 2 months last year and only totaled 80 innings (plus AFL) due to shoulder soreness. It seems logical that the Twins would want to extend him gradually.
  6. Found this on Rotoworld: May 16: Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said Friday that the team plans to limit Alex Meyer's pitch counts this season. They want to let Meyer pitch the entire season without shutting him down, but will be very cognizant of his workload in each outing. Antony said that Meyer could wind up finishing the season in the bullpen. They'll undoubtedly play things cautiously with their prized young right-hander, so don't expect him to make a big impact in fantasy leagues this year. http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/mlb/5466/alex-meyer I don't know if it really answers the question as to why other than being protective of a young player who is still working his way back.
  7. It varies. Monday mornings are often slow. While there is a fair amount of posting on some ongoing threads, it often takes a while for people to have an opportunity to read, digest and respond to new articles. Take, for example, Brad Swanson's article posted this morning. Brad has a number of faithful followers but it often takes most of a day before people start responding even though he always has a lot of humor and interesting thoughts.
  8. Per Tom Powers: To me, either you're in or you're out. Ryan and the front office indicated they were in by signing Morales. They will indicate otherwise if the Twins go through the rotation a couple more times with similar results and make no internal moves. The Morales signing fills a vital need but the pitching, overall, remains subpar. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_25924786/tom-powers-contending-twins-bolster-roster I agree with this 100%. We've got to see more changes -- and we've got to see them soon.
  9. Tom Powers' concluding paragraphs of this story: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_25924786/tom-powers-contending-twins-bolster-roster sum it up pretty well: To me, either you're in or you're out. Ryan and the front office indicated they were in by signing Morales. They will indicate otherwise if the Twins go through the rotation a couple more times with similar results and make no internal moves. The Morales signing fills a vital need but the pitching, overall, remains subpar. The good news is that Ryan has his heart set on being in contention for a postseason spot. He absolutely believes it is possible. "We're at a point in the season where there's a lot of baseball left," he said. "Why not the Twins?" Why not the Twins? Offhand, I'd say pitching. But, wow, I wasn't expecting that question today. Maybe not even for a couple of years. Let me think about it as soon as I'm finished with these smelling salts.
  10. The problem is how they define "close enough". Sometimes it seems to defy logic to many of us.
  11. The one thing I fear is that they will be close enough to contending at the trade deadline that they hesitate to trade anyone away yet fail to pick up anyone meaningful, either. Just feel like we've had missed opportunities too many times when they aren't willing to admit defeat (or that defeat is likely).
  12. ***as of today This is a pretty fluid situation. A lot of things could change by/at the trade deadline.
  13. My guess is that Morales will be looking for a multi-year deal. Not sure he'll get it but I think that's what he and Boras were aiming for by waiting out the draft date. Really think we need to see how Willingham's health holds out this season. I, too, am intrigued by Vargas and hope we get to see him at the major league level later this summer. If it looks like Vargas will be up at all next year, we probably can't afford another purely DH type.
  14. Hmmm .... the possibility of somewhat better performance vs. keeping the money in Pohlad's pockets. I vote for giving the fans something new to watch even if it doesn't pan out. I sincerely don't think Morales is blocking anybody except possibly Kennys Vargas and while I'd like to see Vargas at some point this season, I'll be content if it's later in the year. And i still think that if the Twins go nowhere, the potential of trading Morales has some value.
  15. Well, if they'd had boys instead of girls, they would have just sent them next door to live once they hit their teens.
  16. But isn't that really a reason for the ballclubs to act more "in loco parentis" and to provide something like the new Twins academy at entry levels -- guaranteeing better nutrition, adequate housing, etc. Then perhaps a stipend to the minor league affiliates at a little higher level (e.g. A level ball to help them provide a better experience at that level -- I applaud CR for its program but some help from the Twins on the nutrition front would undoubtedly be welcome.) Then to look at somewhat better pay at the AA and AAA levels. Some of these players are bonus babies and will soon be in the bigs and won't need the higher pay. But a lot of them are journeymen who are needed to keep the clubs and the entire milb system operating (especially at AAA).
  17. And it ends ... thank heavens.
  18. Now figure out some better pitching.
  19. I know someone who climbed up on a table to change lightbulbs when she was about 50 or so years old. She ended up in a wheelchair for weeks with a broken leg and a broken arm. Remembering her struggles is a great deterrent when I'm tempted to do something stupid.
  20. Who among us didn't know that was coming when Bremer was talking about Carter's strike outs?
  21. Getting to interesting territory!
  22. You know, when you see these "not so big" guys hit them out, it is just really hard to understand Joe Mauer's lack of power.
  23. Hard to believe that this game is less than 1/2 over. I think the nap I didn't take yesterday sounds awfully good today.
