  1. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 32s Cards getting lackey
  2. Just give him a mulligan on his first appearance and calculate after that.. Really encouraged by what he's been able to do. Strikeouts? Sometimes I don't even know what they are at the major league level -- unless the Twins are batting.
  3. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 2m Intriguing development: Rays officials have scouted Tigers farm system extensively in recent days, source says.
  4. It all depends on the evaluation of Pinto (because although the Twins have other catcher assets in the minors, they are still further away.) If you think that Pinto can be a successful starting catcher at the major league level, then you don't extend Suzuki (even if Pinto is a year or two away). Suzuki clearly expects to be a #1 catcher -- and presumably the money in an extension confirms that. If you extend Suzuki for 2 or more years, to me it indicates that the team thinks that Pinto has a very low likelihood of success at the major league level -- unless they think they can somehow flip him to someone else.
  5. Darren Wolfson ‏@DarrenWolfson 8m I'm told not to read too much into Milone heading to AAA. Just pitched Tuesday. He'll be w/ the #MNTwins soon.
  6. Some info from Nick Nelson: Nick Nelson ‏@nnelson9 4m Milone: Fastball in mid-80s. Doesn't get many K's. Among most extreme fly ball pitchers in game. I don't love him. But for Fuld, why not? Nick Nelson ‏@nnelson9 51s Milone in Oakland, career: 3.55 ERA, .679 opponent OPS. Milone elsewhere: 4.52, .778. Hope he likes Target Field as much as the Coliseum. Just tempering expectations a bit.
  7. And now we apparently get to see Vargas, too. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 8m Sam Fuld back to Oakland, per @jonmorosi, as part of Tommy Milone trade. Also multiple reports indicating Kennys Vargas getting called up.
  8. Thought about adding a new thread for this but decided to post it here. Here's Phil Hughes on Suzuki: http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/07/31/postgame-twinsights-i-want-him-here-phil-hughes-says-of-catcher-kurt-suzuki/ What role, I wondered, has Suzuki played in Hughes’ personal success this season? “I guess the short answer would be: He’s just a great game caller,” Hughes said. “I think when you ask any pitcher, it’s a lot easier to go through sequences when you know what your catcher wants to do and he knows you so well. There’s not too much second-guessing or shaking off or anything like that. It’s pretty much a nice flow to the game. I think that’s been the biggest impact for me.” Obviously part of being a "great game caller" is experience and Suzuki pretty clearly works hard, studies the opponents and gets to know his pitchers. He also takes hits well and is apparently a good teammate. He's obviously won over the Twins clubhouse so it'll be interesting to see if they extend or trade.
  9. Royals stay above .500.
  10. Sounds like he blossomed from May to July. But interestingly I think the $250,000 is about the equivalent of 6th round money so it worked out well for him.
  11. No but I'm singing it as I type -- of course I just sing the chorus over and over.
  12. I give a lot of likes and have never had it tell me that i can't.
  13. Twins up 1-0 in the top of the 5th. Bases loaded with 2 outs and Colarbello just struck out. Still 1-0.
  14. That, too. I attribute that to the Germans among us. My grandmother always said that might Great-grandparents would have an argument and sit for days in different rooms of their house, never speaking.
  15. Cool but not. Bootleggers around here hid the booze in cast iron monuments in the cemetery (sides had screws that could be removed) for later pick-up.
  16. Baserunning.... sigh.
  17. Deeded it to Jimmy Hoffa.
  18. Lol, I get used to having it on mute because it drives the dog nuts when the computer talks at her.
  19. Thanks. I think the tweet I saw was over 2 or 3 years but since I can't find it back, who knows?
  20. I finally realized why I don't have the "ad problem" that some of you complain about .... I always have my laptop set on mute.
  21. Oops wasn't listening close enough to Dick-Roy. But KC isn't much over .500.
  22. Isn't it kind of pitiful to be pitiful in a pitiful division where only one team has a winning record?
  23. Anybody notice how many new members there are from Elizabethton? Almost every time I click on the little new member button, the person lists Elizabethton --- although there was a Rochester this afternoon.
  24. I saw a tweet that Arcia is there.
