  1. I don't think it was botched by the FO, I think the FO was given a HARD number by the Pohlads in regards to the maximum amount of money they could pay a free agent. The ironic part of that of course is the Pohlads (by their own admission) don't follow baseball and don't really know baseball, so them being in charge of total payroll and 'signing off on' large contracts is just....well....dumb. Then again, I don't understand why you would own a sports team if you had zero interest in them winning titles/winning games etc, I mean turning $38 million into over a billion in less than 40 years is cool and all, but man, it would be nice if they actually followed the game and tried to win. People complain about Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban, Steinbrenner, etc etc but give me a passionate (yet douchey sometimes) owner then one that just cares only about dollars and cents.
  2. Since we aren't going to spend big money in FA on SP (Darvish), I'd look to spend that money on an impact bat. JD Martinez fits the bill quite nicely. You can then trade one of Rosario or Kepler in a package for young SP help.
  3. Feb 20th 1:30pm EST Twins sign Johan Santana to one day contract.
  4. The more that comes out, the more absurd it is that the Twins tried to be cute and just low ball the hell out of Darvish.
  5. Sean Connery as Frank Mason put it Best: Losers always whine about their best, winners go..... Epstein is a winner and once again won the offseason, while the Twins are basically the scrappy little underdog they seem to always love to be and never want to progress on from. The Wild Card game should be a fun one again
  6. I didn’t say with certainty any of that, it could be one person or it could be more than one person. Just found the response to be pretty interesting, even if I disagree with the notion that Mauers contract hurt them and that because of that the reasons for not going Long on another player is ‘just’ Like I said everyone’s I sent entitled to their opinions and it’s not like im going to stop rooting for the Twins bc of this off season, but I will be thinking twice about commiting to so many games this season as a fan who lives 1,000+ miles away. (Maybe 2 trips to Minnesota this summer instead of 4)
  7. Hey John, I mentioned to asbury as well but more than happy to fwd you the thread with the contact info/proof. Of course there prob would be a way to ‘spoof’ all of that, but frankly I wouldn’t know how nor would have the time. I do appreciate the response from the Twins, but was surprised re: the Mauer comment. I tend to think people are reading a little too much into all of it, prob because it’s pretty rare to get anything from a ‘blunt’ take from someone in the Twins org (that’s not a pot shot, just an observation) The nice thing is everyone is entitled to their opinions.
  8. TO be fair they have had plenty of money for some time in the past as well. At some point you gotta wonder not when but if it will ever change.
  9. 1 playoff series win in 26 years is not damn good IMVHO. But agree to disagree I suppose.
  10. I redacted the name, and also let’s be real, nothing that was said was controversial or going to get anyone in trouble. Just found it interesting that this is more than likely the ‘line/script’ talking points that the season ticket team has. I’m guessing they have had to deal with quite a few people canceling or trying to cancel tickets over the last several years. If they actually make a concerted effort to put a team that can win a playoff series (ie fix the starting pitching) I won’t cancel.
  11. Since the Twins apparently have zero real plans of ever competing in free agency or putting a competitive team on the field I will be requesting to cancel my plan and requesting a 100% refund for my deposit. Tell your bosses that once they invest some money into this club I will invest money into season tickets. Let me know when it’s canceled and refunded. Thanks (Redacted) Sent from my iPhone
  12. FWIW:Never once did it come out that he insisted on playing in a “big” market. He did like the Dodgers and his experience though, and maybe also because LA has a large Persian population?
  13. I think Falvine know what they are doing, I think they really wanted to land Darvish but the Pohlads and co gave them a hard “max” to offer. They tried their best but came up 20-30 mil short. The 6th year isn’t even that big a deal when the AAV was only $21 million! That’s basically just a super cheap almost free year added on if it was a 5 year $25 AAV type deal In general it’s not wise to bet against Epstein anyways....so apparently not everyone thinks that a 6th year to Darvish is so foolish and dumb. Unless you don’t think Epstein and his FO have earned any benefit of the doubt?
  14. I mean it’s not an official capacity since it’s not someone in the front office...though maybe that is the line they are being fed by the higher ups. I was pretty surprised at that line to be honest.
  15. It’s not fake. I can fwd the original email thread to Brock or one of the other owners here if they need clarification/proof.
  16. I like the idea for sure, I just think Houston(win now 100%) will hold onto him unless they are blown away, and I’m not sure McHugh is a guy you want to ‘overpay for’ with prospects at this time. Pitching is tough to get via trades as we all know, so I would still just prefer the FA market, where at least if you over pay you aren’t giving up young/cheap/impact prospects as well.
  17. There is no way a single team, much less 4 teams actually “lost” money. Your a business guy as am I, you know exactly how accountants can work the numbers to be advantageous for pretty much any scenario.
  18. Apples to oranges a bit, but if the Timberwolves, Wild And Vikings can be aggressive on the trade and free agent markets, there is no reason why the Twins can’t, right? Yes, none of those teams have won a title, but all have multiple playoff wins (t pups will shortly) since the last Twins playoff win.
  19. Interested where this so called meltdown exists in re: Darvish? So criticizing a team for failing to bring in Darvish on a reasonable deal is having a meltdown? And thus asking if the Twins will ever sign a top FA? I mean I don’t have super high requests, just want us to win a playoff series more than once every 25 years. When those extremely modest expectations aren’t met I feel like the criticism is very much warranted. Hell at this point I will take a single playoff game WIN.
  20. Also it’s cool the season ticket rep responded, Twins employ some class people. Even if they are just saying the talking points they have been told, still appreciate the response. Unfortunately all the class and talent in the world can’t make up for terrible owners.
  21. Seems hilarious the Twins are now saying the Mauer contract ‘hamstrung’ them and and using THAT as a main reason why they didn’t give a 6th year to Yu. Curious on how that Mauer contract hamstrung the Twins to be honest and seems unfair to make him a scapegoat.
  22. Good morning David, I understand the frustration and as a big fan of the team myself, I get it. I will say that we put a competitive offer (north of $100m) on the table and flew down to Texas to offer it to him in person. I don’t know if you are able to say the same about past regimes. Also, to offer an older pitcher a 6th year on a contract is silly and longer contracts have hamstrung this team in the past (i.e. Joe Mauer). That isn’t to say he isn’t worth a big deal but that is a big risk. I do suspect us to do something in free agency or the trade market. As I’m sure you are aware, there are a lot of names still out there. The team you see now will not be the same team come April, that I believe. Not to mention, when you placed this deposit, this team was (and still is) coming off of a playoff season. Best
  23. Well I hope they put more effort into getting Archer then they did for Darvish if that’s the case!
  24. I’d be shocked if Kepler is the ‘centerpiece’ Quite confident they would have to include a couple prospects as well that we would hate to lose. Fact is if Archer is truly being shopped aggressively there will be about 15 teams competing with us, many of which will have more org depth to outbid us. Basically this being ‘leaked’ today is an obvious move by the Twins FO and prob indicates the Twins are more or less done in the market for any “real big moves” If the deal wasn’t good two weeks ago, doubt it’s gonna get the job today, also the rays have zero reason to need to trade him now anyways. Should have signed Yu and we could have kept Kepler and a bunch of prospects to boot!
