  1. Three letters Boomers need to heed and memorize as they enter their twilight years: D N R At least that will help some of the burden, last thing we need is more hopeless cases costing hospitals up to 2 million (each) being hooked on life support for no reason for years on end.
  2. Garrison Keillor is one of the more appalling ones, instead of showing (or even faking) some sort of remorse he is wearing it like a badge of honor. What a sick scum bag.
  3. Telling the truth is insulting people? Who voted for Trump? Who continues to fall for the 'trickle down economics' nonsense time and time again? Who has stood ideally by all these years while unjust after unjust war has taken place? Hmm, that's funny, because people seem to bash 'lazy' millennials all the time and I don't hear people crying about that. Those lazy millennials that fought (and won) for LGBTQ rights, who have been fighting (and winning) to end the prohibition on harmless Marijuana (and thus releasing thousands of non violent offenders from prison) and who have been fighting (and bringing awareness) to major issues across the globe including workplace sexual harassment, police brutality, equal pay, minimum wage pay, universal health care, 'electric cars/AI', lowest teen birth rate in history etc. Notice, nowhere did I say ALL baby boomers are too blame, there are PLENTY that do good and have done great things, the problem is the majority of them have created the largest issues this country (and world in some aspects) have to deal with today. Thanks for higher education costs. Thanks for crappy mass transit/infastructure Thanks for the crappy environment Thanks for all of the high rates of suicide and PTSD from a bunch of unjust wars. Thanks for no more social security by the time anyone under the age of 45 (currently) retires in the future. Thanks for creating work atmospheres and industries where predators like Matt Lauer, Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Bill Cosby, Jerry Sandusky, Al Fraken could openly assault women and nothing would be done. Thanks for the housing market crash. Thanks for the super sweet 'war on drugs' Thanks for the Muslim Ban Thanks for the made up 'war on Christmas' Thanks for the patriot act Thanks for no more net neutrality Thanks for zero sex education in schools Thanks for standing by the Catholic Church after decades of child abuse. Thanks for nothing Baby Boomers! Best generation has the worst generation, it only makes sense that the worst generation gives birth to the best generation (part 2) to clean up all this mess!
  4. Yeah, good point. I think they would probably bring in a Kintzler type on the FA market (2 year, 9 mil?) And then if they want a great to elite arm they likely would explore the trade market.
  5. As the team stands now: I'd put the Twins between 40:1 and 60:1 They just don't have the starting pitching or bullpen to realistically compete in the playoffs. However if they can get Darvish, Ohtani and 2 solid bullpen arms? I'd slot them in at 12:1 to 18:1
  6. The problem is typically future bets have an insanely high vig (house advantage) on them.
  7. Also the worst generation falling once again for 'trickle down' economics is laughable, in addition to Trump having dementia, I almost feel like anyone over 65 has it as well. Literally does nobody have a memory of what happened last time? 'trickle down' economics is like cat nip to the worst generation, just like Rodan and Fields and advocare is catnip to bored/dumb millenials.
  8. I'm really really really hoping that DeWayne Wade takes some potshots at Trump and Trump catches wind of it and then goes after the wrong DWade on twitter....TwinsDaily traffic would go through the roof!
  9. I view this all as a MASSIVE market correction, speaking to folks in the media industry and film industry they are all saying this is all just the very tip of the tip of the iceberg. Going to be a very interesting next 6-12 months as more and more 'men in power' get taken down, literally the only one who may be safe at this point is Trump, but Russia should bring him down quite nicely. I think when we look back in 15-20 years this will be viewed alot like the Gay Rights and even Civil Rights movement. The world is a real **** hole right now, but at least we are doing a couple things during this time that will at least make the world a better place for groups who have been unfairly crapped on for far too long: Women and LGBTQ community.
  10. Figured we could have a thread re: "The Worst Generation" aka the Baby Boomers, IMO you can trace most of our problems: Trump getting elected, terrible tax plan, poor health care in this country, continued racial tensions, terrible environment, housing market collapse of 08 directly on this generation. Fortunately this 'problem' will solve itself more and more over the next 15-25 years.
  11. Russo reporting that this is the last year of Fletchers contract, great, that means we are gonna trade our next 13 first round picks for another aging crappy 'scorer' at the deadline.
  12. Well to be fair, it's kinda silly to compare Puckett to Santana to begin with. Puckett was always a sure thing first ballot hall of famer, pretty sure even if he played from 2001-2015 and had the same career it would still be a complete no brainer. Santana is a borderline hall of famer. Hard for anyone to say he is a 'sure thing' one way or another.
  13. I really appreciate the work done on this (seriously), but it's hard to estimate these things 4+ years out like this. Berrios making 20 million? That must mean he is performing very very well etc Even then, these salaries don't seem super insane given inflation and assuming all those guys have become real long term assets. Also guys like Castro certainly will be gone for cheaper options, also Nick Gordon and other top prospects can shave quite a bit off of a lot of those costs as well (think of what we could get for Polanco in a year or two if he continues to progress and Gordon is ready!) Eddie a $15mm and Buxton a $24mm year type players? Good problem to have in 2023
  14. None of those payroll amounts seem too out of whack to be honest. Also there are always way to shave a few bucks here and there. $138 next year may seem a little high, but thats where Thad and the wonderkid come into play. I have a feeling Pohlad would be 'ok' with $110-$120, they just need to convince him that long term it's best to invest now. Also I don't see Mauer coming back to the Twins for 21 million in 2019/2020, the Twins won't offer that more than likely. Though if he does earn/command that type of salary...well then he likely had a MONSTER 2018. Also with Darvish and Ohtani on the squad, they would make quite a bit of money I imagine from Japan, and a lesser (but shouldn't be ignored) amount from the Iranian-American crowd as well.
  15. Can never have enough defense. I'm not sure Kepler can handle CF realistically, and speaking of 1st base..... Kepler could handle that as well. Rosario could, but then suddenly you lose an elite corner OF as well. Granite is a nice depth piece, but not sold on him to ever hit enough to even be a 5th OF type. Gomez can hit/have enough pop to fill in at RF, and is still a 1.8 WAR player as a part time guy. If they can get Werth, I'm all for it, but I don't see it happening, I see Werth looking for a much clearer path towards regular playing time. With Gomez, he won't start a massive amount of games, but will appear in a nice amount and would hold his own. If not Gomez, someone similar, you can never have enough solid defenders.
  16. Yeah pretty much this. The idea that he would be under pressure because he was the 'best' pitcher on the Twins roster is a little silly. If they bring in Ohtani and no one else, I'm pretty 99.999% sure they give Santana opening day 'ace' start if he is healthy. There are a lot of reasons why Ohtani may not sign here, him being afraid of being the highest upside pitcher on the 2018 opening day roster seems like a stretch...
  17. 1. While I agree with the "closer is over-rated" train of thought, the Twins IMO simply don't have any elite or close to elite arms in the pen. While it doesn't have to be an "elite closer" I would want them to get a guy who can be a top 15 relief pitcher at the end of the year, regardless of his 'role'. I want the guy who can come in and get 6 outs, two games in a row in the ALCS or World Series. I just don't see that guy on the Twins roster as of now. 2. Garver is ok, but Castro is 'ok' as well. I just want another backup plan in place if either gets injured or fails. Maybe I'm just having PTSD from the Drew Butera backup years haha. 3.Yeah Grossman did better than I thought he was, he is a 100 OPS+ guy at the plate, but with a nice OBP. The problem is....the positives end there, he is a minus player on the basepath, and really not a good OF at all (though he did better than I thought he would). I would prefer the 4th OF be a guy that can play CF in a pinch if need be as well. I'd actually look to bring in Carlos Gomez to be the 4th OF, and have Grossman be a 5th OF type. Gomez isn't superb by any means, but can still handle CF somewhat, still has a little pop (17 HR, 106 OPS+ in 100 games) and still has value on the base paths as a PR type as well. I also think Molitor would find a way to make him even better.
  18. It matters IMO. Sports is still about winning when it matters most. His fault or not, Santana's post season numbers just weren't very good. 1-3, 3.97 ERA 2004 was different, as he crushed it in his two starts, but unfortunately the Twins gonna Twins...
  19. Puckett had two world series titles and had one of the greatest world series single game performances ever. Santana was elite, but his career got cut short. If I ran the hall of fame, Santana would be in, no doubt about it. But I'm also not going to pretend like it's some crime against humanity when he fails to ever reach even 60% If Santana won a ring or two or had some elite post season run one year? He's probably in. Is it fair? Nah. But that's what sports are. Rings matter.
  20. Bitcoin about to hit $10,000, good for a 1000% return over the last 12 months (3000% return on some of the "shares" i bought) Nvidia at $215 Still time to hop on both gravy trains!
  21. At that point, you have to go all in, right? Not so much ALL IN FOR 2018, but ALL IN for 2018-2020. If this happens, what else do you want the Twins to do? My plan, you ask? -Go out and get an elite closer: Wade Davis or Greg Holland. -Go out and get one more good RP, one "solid" RP/Flyer RP Basically two of: Watson/Hunter/Kintzler/Swarzak/Liriano/Neshek/ -Go out and get an upgrade for 4th OF, Util guy and backup catcher. If you don't wanna pay up for Wade Davis or Holland then dangle some prospects for some help.
  22. Park wasn't a bad signing, it just didn't work out. Nothing was really messed up long term since the Twins didn't do anything while he was on the roster anyways. I wish him the best of luck, but I am glad he is out of the organization. No need for him to be taking at bats from someone that can contribute in the future.
  23. Twins Vikings T Pups Wild I’d put the odds as: Vikings: 30% Twins: 30% T Pups: 15% Wild :25%
  24. Again...for the 5th time, Stanton is on a 3 year effective contract since he will opt out in 3 years. It’s not a major risk on that end of things.
  25. They clearly aren't thinking that at all, they realize (smartly) that they ned a full rebuild.
