  1. The mlb “performance enhancing drug” rules are stupid and unfair. Between this nonsense and collusion this off season the players definitely need to strike.
  2. No thanks.
  3. It's a nice ST, but he really isn't a prospect, he is 29 and has never done very well in the minors (never cracked a top 300 list I believe) Zero chance to make this team and very little chance to stick in the org, maybe this opens some eyes for him in Korea/Japan or can catch on as a AAA type for another team. Best of luck to him, nice to see these type of guys have a good showing.
  4. It’s confirmed. 1 year 12 mil
  5. Yeah I think it's safe to say that Machado will be signed pretty early on Implying that Jake Arietta may be open to a 1 year (high salary) deal isn't really insane IMO, if he has a very good year it sets him up real nice heading into next off-season.
  6. Sorry meant to be: CC: Twins. Go sign Arreita!
  7. 1 year 19 million with a team option for a 2nd year 22 million (2.5 million buyout) DO IT.
  8. 130 ops+ 38 hr Low risk high upside contract Nothing to not like about this signing.
  9. Morrison also can play LF/RF If Rosario or Kepler get Hurt. Wouldn’t be ideal as it would be a downgrade defensively, but he actually isn’t that bad. Plus the other two can hide any decencies. Also this allows you to potentially trade Kepler for pitching etc Anyways it’s a brilliant move.
  10. Doubt Vargas would get us much of anything in a trade.
  11. Granite is the clear choice for 4th Of since he can play good D. Grossman probably doesn’t have a spot on this roster anymore with the Morrison signing.
  12. 6.5 million for a guy who should hit 30-35 bombs? Money well spent. And insurance for Mauer if he leaves after this year. Plus by adding another bat it allows the Twins to potentially trade another bat later on.
  13. You never know. I'm sure he realized when he signed with the Twins that he was a long shot to make the roster out of ST with all the depth and solid players they have a 2B/SS/3B etc Maybe he is looking into a post playing career gig, like coaching or something. Anyways, the point is, if he wanted to make a big league roster immediately the Twins weren't one of his better options IMO, and he probably realized that. So let's see what happens. Or maybe Polanco is on the block or something else? Meh, I dunno.
  14. Yeah that was an insanely smart deal for the Red Sox, really no downside at all even if he is a bench player.
  15. Or he could agree to goto AAA of course and help mentor guys. And if someone goes down for ten games or so he could come up to the majors and play a depth role if need be (like 10 games, 1 start, a couple at bats etc instead of maybe calling up a youngster with upside and having him ride the pine) Can never have enough MI depth IMO.
  16. Heyman has broken (and been right) on a ton more signings, trades, rumors etc then LaVelle has. That's not a knock on LVIII just that I tend to take more notice when Heyman says something. Why would you be surprised? The rotation last year was a dumpster fire, they have no real rookies ready to step in realistically, have a ton of question marks for this year and next year and effectively have only signed/traded for one real option thus far. Sanchez is basically plan D at this stage.
  17. Freaking Thibs does it again. I hope we fire this clown and figure out a way to hire Hoiberg.
  18. Meh, I view this as just depth/insurance in case someone gets injured in ST or Sano gets suspended for a couple weeks. Also never hurts to have a veteran leadership in ST to maybe help coach/teach the youngsters. If it was a major league deal or he was taking someone's spot I would be upset, but this is hard to get too worked up about at all. Chargois throws hard, and dominated AAA somewhat, but clearly the Twins think he won't stick in the majors.. the MLB is littered with guys like that, additionally pretty sure the Dodgers have the last waiver claim spot, which means he almost passed through. Guessing the Twins can reclaim him in a week or two when the Dodgers ditch him anyways.
  19. I like LaVelle, but IMO that guy never really breaks any news. I trust a guy like Heyman (who has sources ALL over baseball because he covers it nationally) then a guy like LaVelle who really only covers one team (not saying he doesn't have sources elsewhere) but it does seem like he more or less just says whatever the Twins front office 'feeds' him. I don't see Tampa trading Archer this off-season unless they are blown away, and I don't think the Twins should offer up Sano+ Kepler+Berrios for him.
  20. I put Gibsons chances at sticking with this team past 2018 at about 30%, if he does stick it means he truly 'figured it out' for a full season and improved. I view Sanchez as nothing more than depth at this point, maybe a guy who gets 8-10 starts this year tops. I don't understand why we just thumb our noses at a SP who puts up 3.0 WAR regularly and should for the next 2-3 years. The Twins had exactly TWO SP last year with WARs of 1.0 or above, Santana (4.2) and Berrios (1.7) Gibson had a 0.2 WAR, I'm not sure I like putting Lynn and Gibson in the same bucket, at all. Also if Lynn is putting up his career averages and giving us 3 WAR a season, then there is no way you would want to 'wash him off' unless for some reason the Twins have 4 other pitchers who are pitching better than that, and if that is the case then they have a really really really good problem.
  21. That's the most frustrating thing about being a Twins fan. You have an owner who literally knows nothing about baseball (by his own admission) but also hamstrings his FO to always make sure the bottom line is strong. I don't want to get into another "Twins have a X number media market blah blah blah" debate with people, but you are exactly right, I could see the Pohlads pulling that card, and it doesn't seem too out of the realm ditto with: "You wanna sign Yu Darvish for WHAT? Come on! We gave Mauer all that money just a short 6 years ago!" One thing I don't think the Pohlads know or really care about is prospects, which makes me believe maybe it's time to get really aggressive in the next 12 months at some point to try to land a somewhat affordable SP through the trade market. Ideally some of our top prospects in the minors put up some good numbers this year.
  22. I want to like Mejia, but nothing he has done thus far has made me feel like he can be anything more than a 'cheap' option at #5 (until he becomes expensive) That's not really a knock on him as guys like that sometimes have solid 6-10 year careers bouncing around and making decent money over a career, as much as it is: the Twins should always be looking to get a better SP option than him if they want to compete.
  23. I mean Sanchez, Gibson and Hughes all could/should be cut after this year if they don't improve. Hughes is the only one signed longer, and frankly if he can't come back (I'm rooting for him FWIW as I like him as a player) they prob should just eat the money and move on. I'd rather the Twins be 'set' in the mid and back rotation so they can focus on getting the front of the rotation in order, rather than what we went into this off-season with: Santana and a bunch of question marks. (Berrios obviously has upside and deserves a rotation spot for the near and hopefully long term future but he's still a bit of a wild card) Even assuming Berrios would settle in as a solid #3 this year, the Twins still had 60% of a rotation that had a ton of question marks: Gibson: I mean this guy is so hit or miss, he either looks like a solid #4/#5 type or looks like the worst pitcher in the league. Mejia: coming off a poor season. Hughes/May: Coming off major injuries And everyone else is a rookie or someone without a good track record at all. I'd rather go into next off-season with 4-5 guys you feel confident in for spots 2-5, and just focus on getting that 'ace' rather then having to rebuild a full rotation.
  24. Even a 3 year deal wouldn't be 'that bad' it's doubtful the guy just falls off a complete cliff where at the very least he can remain a backend guy. I'm all for them getting Lynn, who has consistently been a 3 WAR pitcher, it's not super sexy but again, it's stable, reliable and a lot better than plans B thru Z. My ONLY hesitation is that this would preclude the Twins from actually going after the front of the rotation arm they NEED sometime in the next 24 months. I'm not sure Santana or Berrios fit the bill of a "very good #2" much less an 'ace' in the next two seasons.
