  1. The Dickey trade is the one that looks pretty bad now, but the Blue Jays are still set up to compete for the next few years, the Donaldson trade was a thing of beauty. People over-react every time a team gives up a prospect, the Blue Jays are going to be fine for the next few years, after that? Who knows, but planning 4+ years out is a foolhardy worry anyways.
  2. I have a hard time criticizing him too much on this, most #5's wont get you too deep, even though I want May in the rotation, I must admit that he was pretty poor on pitching deep into games (worse than Milone IIRC)
  3. Highly doubtful. Even if you are some hot shot doctor who has to pay a large amount, are you really going to give up your US citizenship?
  4. Milone is fine, I just wish they would figure out a way to trade him or one of the other starters at this point however.
  5. First off, nobody called the Twins morons in this thread, so stop saying we did, it only detracts from the conversation that is going on. Nobody has said every good signing is just a stroke of good luck either. The problem is that Liriano didn't come out of nowhere to have success with the Pirates, he had PLENTY of success for the Twins, just like Ortiz, and just like Ortiz he didn't fit the twins "pitch to contact" "hit to opposite field" mold. Once the Pirates let Liriano throw whatever he wanted (slider) and once the Red Sox let Ortiz concentrate on mashing, both players became great. This isn't a coincidence. This isn't exactly RA dickey where nobody could predict success. The twins have done great Getting Nathan, Liriano etc in the first place, you seem to take it personally that people are pointing out that letting him go and not resigning him or even trying to later on clearly was the wrong move.
  6. That's too bad, great restaurant. I go every time in in town on work for some awesome brunch and a few too many bloody Mary's. 61 is too young.
  7. I more or less acknowledged he came back out of loyalty. yes maybe someone else may have traded some prospects (keep in mind, most prospects fail in the majors anyways) and maybe they would have failed, but then again, the Twins haven't "succeeded" since Ryan has come back, no playoff berths and one 83 win season that is largely a product of luck. (75-77 win team in reality) Could it have been worse? Absolutely Could it have been better? Absolutely
  8. Poll 100 twins fans, the majority are not happy with the current regime and have their doubts. I didn't say all, I said most, though I could change it to "a large number of fans" I bet if you polled the owners of this site, the mods, admins you would have more that are concerned then are not.
  9. no argument from me, at least it helps fix the student loan crisis. Step one of fixing the bigger problems IMO. What are your thoughts to fix the system? (The college problem) I honestly don't have any ideas beyond what Oregon did. Also I like Obama promoting free trade schools etc even if it costs tax dollars at least we are teaching people a truly valuable skill.
  10. I think Ryan is a good draft/talent evaluator overall, and I think he was just fine as a GM overall in his first stint. My issue with him is this second stint, and how he hasn't become more aggressive and still dumpster dives to fill holes. Looking back honestly, once Smith was fired they should have went outside the org to bring in a fresh voice. I still don't understand how TR could step down, then come back so quickly, I guess it's because he is a class act (I do believe this and think he is a great guy) because the pohlads asked him, I just wish he would have turned them down and forced them to go outside the org for once
  11. I like what Oregon did. (I don't have the exact number on me it its close to the following) State will pay for your tuition (public university in state) and in return you have to give 10% of your income to them for your first 10-15 years out of college. The people that go on to be CEOs then subsidize the ones who become artists and such.
  12. Yup, agreed. Letting Liriano go, while not as damaging as letting David Ortiz and his 500+ HR walk for nothing, is almost just as bad/stupid. Called it then, called it when he signed with Pittsburgh, called it now.
  13. Even more damning is that they didn't even make him an offer to resign as a FA, when the asking price was much less than what we paid Pelfrey. Classic mediocrity over upside We saw it last off-season with Hunter instead of Cruz, and we have seen it this off-season thus far with guys like Murphy and some nobodies to fill out the bullpen.
  14. How nice would it be if the Twins DIDN'T give Hughes that pointless extension prior to last year, right now he would be sitting on a 1 year, 7 mil deal which could be moved pretty easily? Hindsight is 20/20, but good lord, what was Ryan thinking? Don't even get me started on Pelfrey and his dumb contract that essentially blocked May, Milone and Duffey
  15. Come on man. There is a huge difference between the Cueto trade and between the Shannon Stewart trade. Saying "well aggressive can't be defined" is just a cheap cop out IMO. If you asked people to name the 100 most aggressive trades of the last 20 years, nobody would put the Stewart one in that.
  16. Because here we are 12 years later and we (most fans) still have serious doubts about the people running the ship.
  17. Extremely well said. Yeah, I agree, and how soon us Twins fans forget that old man Pohlad was actively working with Bud Selig to contract the Twins!
  18. Also from that link Parker, this is very telling:
  19. So he was basically saying they traded one OF for another, how is that aggressive again? Again if this is the "most" aggressive TR has been, I think that says all we need to know.
  20. I Disagree with that since Zobrist >>>>>> Stewart, but even if I give you the benefit of the doubt on that, show me the trades that match the Shields and Cueto ones?
  21. A career .757 OPS in the minors, and the year the Twins traded him his OPS was .790 He had a fluky year the year prior, Kielty was hardly some great player at the time, nor projected to be (and he ended up as nothing special) Aggressive is trading a REAL prospect or someone with upside/above average talent, Kielty was none of the above.
  22. "What if I told you, Meatloaf had it wrong. 30 for 30 presents, (1 out of 17 aint bad!) The Terry Ryan Story" Sponsored by Grain Belt Beer "The best $9.75 beer at Target Field you will ever have!"
  23. Ah yeah I had forgot about that trade, what is hilarious is that the Twins choose to take $3 million in cash from the Yankees instead of getting another player or two as well. Classic Pohlad. You can talk about adjustments to their operations all you want, the reality is: like 95% of the main leadership is still the same, the Twins haven't done any trades/signings etc that actually show they have effected their decisions moving forward. Essentially, talk is cheap.
  24. You are missing the point entirely.
  25. Go back and read the thread, none of those were aggressive moves.
