  1. It's pretty clear to me that Mauer is much healthier than he has been in the last two years. His BB% is back up, and his K% has dropped back down, those two numbers alone to me show that he is seeing the ball better. His ISO is back to his career norms as well (up 30% from the past two years) this indicates he is making much stronger contact and yes, seeing the ball well again. His BABIP is 20 points below his career norm, so "luck" isn't the reason why he is a .800 OPS guy this year. His WAR in 2/3rds of this season has already equaled his WAR from the last two years combined. In fact he is on pace for a 3.0 WAR season, which is impressive from a 1st baseman. Currently he has the 11th best WAR for first baseman in the MLB. Ahead of guys like Chris Davis, Mike Napoli, HanRam, and Adrian Gonzalez. Mauer doesn't get near enough credit around these parts and from Twins fans as a whole.
  2. I don't see it as an adjustment as much as it is that Sano is an elite power hitter and has an extremely good eye. He had a cold stretch (which happens to all players) and for whatever reason this team feels the need to trash him and question his work ethic then just allowing things to work themselves out. The last few days have proven once again what we have all known what Sano is: A guy who has the ability to completely take over a game and hit multiple home runs any given day.
  3. Honestly pretty much the entire on field staff with the exception of Guardado is pretty terrible as well, I'd like to see how Sano would respond/improve his game with a decent coaching staff.
  4. Buxton being sent back down is a 100% failure on behalf of Bruno and Molly, hell even Kepler struggled until another teams HITTING COACH gave him some basic advice. Bruno and Molly both need to be gone.
  5. This thread needs to be archived forever. 39 home runs in his first 159 big league games.
  6. Robot umpires can't get here soon enough.
  7. Plouffe + 1 million for a PTBNL would be good enough for me.
  8. No he didn't it has trump at 16% and 23% in the two polls and poll plus calculations. 7:1 odds is my personal feeling on it. All it takes is an economic recession or Hillary to have a medical issue to get trump back into the ball game.
  9. I don't buy it being the reason why he was striking out so much. His wrist was fine enough to hit 450 foot bombs, the real issue I saw was his inability to hit a major league fastball. Once teams found this out he was toast. Also, his AAA numbers look good, but his bb rate is pretty damn bad at only 5% in AAA, that is very concerning. Plus his k rate is above 25% in AAA (not a complete disaster, but it's concerning) with an ISO of .340 it seems to me that he is destroying crappy pitching, but struggling against AAAA or better pitching.
  10. It's more than 2/3rds of a season though already! It's not like we are talking about a SSS here or anything. Even if Mauer slumps a bit and ends with a .775-.780 ops I think his potential for an .800 2017 ops still exists. My own personal opinion is that A smart and planned rest plan/game plan for Mauer will lead to these sort of results.
  11. Im not so sure it was clear that Plouffe was "shopped hard core" this offseason. It would have made sense of course, but as we have seen now, very little of TR's off season plan made any sense at all.
  12. I think you are under rating Plouffe. He is a 3rd baseman who plays above average defense and should bet you 20 or so HR a year, he IMO hits well enough for 3rd base, but not well enough for corner OF. IMO you want your corner OF guys to either 1. Play great D and have a .760 or higher ops 2. Play bad d and have a .820 or higher OPS This is sort of why I want the Twins to max out Rosario's value as a CF and trade him. Rosario as a CF= potential to be an above average overall CF. Rosario as a corner OF= I don't think he will ever hit enough to be average, or at least produce enough to be a real asset in the corner OF. I'd much rather sign a 30 HR type guy who doesn't play very good D (Nelson Cruz type, etc)
  13. Color me skeptical with Park still. A major league fastball is quite a bit different than a AAA fastball.
  14. If he has an .800 ops at this stage of the season, he is an .800 ops player. If he has an .850 ops, then he is an .850 ops player. Players go on hot and cold streaks all the time, the thing that matters when evaluating is where they end up.
  15. Comparing Nunez to Mauer is pointless, one is a guy with several great seasons, an MVP award and 3 batting titles and another guy is a career util player who had a breakout first half.
  16. Waste of time to put him on waivers. 1- nobody is going to claim that contract 2- Joe isn't going to waive his NTC
  17. Season is 2/3rds over. An .800 ops is an .800 ops
  18. 23 years old (barely) 157 games 34 home runs .858 ops Can he improve? Yeah of course. But you sure as hell don't send him down to AAA, what are the Twins even thinking?!?!?
  19. Plouffe would be a disaster in the OF IMO. He is too slow, and doesn't hit enough for a corner OF who will struggle defensively. He should be able to find a starting gig at 3B next year, he would be an upgrade for plenty of teams.
  20. Yeah he is a stud defensively and very underrated IMO. I think the key moving fwd is giving him enough days off, and a few days at DH to keep him fresh. Maybe on average he sits every 5th game or so? That would put him at 130 games over the course of a season and could help? Either way, awesome to see him doing well again, class act all the way.
  21. Don't look now, but his OPS is back at .800 If he can replicate this next year I think most of us will be pretty pleased, hopefully he has a few years more like this left in his tank and can solidify his spot in the HOF. Obviously you want a little more power and a little better OPS out of a 1B, but I think the Twins can live with a .800 ops.
  22. Anyone saying the twins should cut Mauer is freaking ridiculous. Obviously he isn't playing at his peak, but the guy still has a .282 average .384 OBP and an .800 OPS, lets not pretend that he isn't bringing some nice value at the dish at this stage.
  23. It still creates a logjam for Plouffe/Sano/Vargas to get meaningful at bats. The only thing I like about sending Buxton to AAA is it would give us a shot to showcase Rosario in CF for a potential trade for a SP
  24. I guess DFA Santana or Plouffe at this stage then. Seriously, does Santana have any real place on this team next year? He is an utterly terrible player these days anyways.
  25. There are only 3 acceptable answers IMO -DFA Santana -Send Grossman down to the minors -DFA Plouffe Vargas needs at bats, Sano needs at bats and reps at 3rd (NTM he is one of the best hitters this team has anyways!) Ditto with Buxton and the rest. I honestly don't see why they are so worried about letting Santana go at this stage, they have Polanco, they are fine. Grossman has earned his spot, but he is a 4th OF moving fwd, if they really are that keen on keeping both Santana and Plouffe (two guys who shouldn't be here in 2017) then send down Grossman. See my post above about Plouffe, he still obviously is good enough to play in the majors for a number of teams, he just isn't a fit for a last place rebuilding club. Let him goto a contender and try to build up his value for his next contract that way.
