  1. I agree that all of the relievers should be on the block, sans Perkins, because while we could get a decent return, I don't think it would send the right message to trade someone who just signed. Otherwise, all should be available.
  2. The reverse Thome, I don't like it.
  3. Brewers have fallen back to earth, so four teams in that division may be buyers at the deadline.
  4. Exactly, all those people clamor in for May and Meyer forget how they got to the Twins.
  5. I think Meyer and May will be up before the end of the year. Here's hoping Correia turns in another good outing, meaning his time with the team may be short. As for Meyer, he's seemed to be on an 85-90 pitch limit most of the year, just now being stretched out. I would agree that May probably could have taken at least one of the spot starts by now
  6. Sam Deduno is not part of the future and Gibson is. He is doing quite well for his first full year and I think be will be a 15 game winner in a year or two
  7. Unless somebody gives you a Herschel Walker type bonanza, you keep him. He is young enough to be part of the next contending team. Then, we will use our prospects to acquire more talent
  8. No, it's no different than signing a pitcher to a six year deal then he blows out his elbow. The Twins have seen enough concussions so I doubt the Twins tried to force him to catch
  9. From the perspective of a casual fan, the payroll may well be lower next year, which will bring out the Pohlads are cheapskates yahoos. We have plenty of young relievers in the minors (Tonkin, Achter, etc.) that could move into the middle relief roles next year. Spending big on middle relievers always turns out to be a disaster, ask the Dodgers about Guerrier, etc. I am guessing Duensing will be traded, so his salary could come off the books. Roll with the rotation of Hughes, Gibson, May, Meyer and Nolasco. Too early to cut bait with Nolasco and maybe the elbow pain is the cause of this subpar first year. I don't think the Twins would have any chance with the FA starters, who would get big money, although a James Shields signing would make me happy. I wouldn't mind the Twins trying to resign Suzuki for a couple of years at a reasonable price after they trade him before the end of the month. Pinto can catch and DH 5-6 times a week. I would just go with Santana as a SS/CF type and sign another stopgap in CF and put Escobar back as the UT player. Plouffe still fits nicely as 3B and probably can also be an extra OF. However, even he will get too expensive in my opinion for the value he brings. It's time to let the kids play. Unfortunately, the injuries to Sano and Buxton may delay their arrival next year, but there is no reason that we should be signing veterans to block their arrival unless its only on a one-year deal. In short, I don't think there will be too many big splashes in FA over the offseason. The improvement to me will come with the arrival and maturation of the kids. Don't spend $$ just to spend, maybe go bigger into the International Market.
  10. Cards fans hate John Jay.
  11. To me it means trade 2-3 relievers at the deadline and see what these guys can do
  12. That sets him up for a possible Friday start for the Twins Also, the improvement in the pitching depth is here because Diamond can be released
  13. I wouldn't deal Dozier unless we were absolutely blown away. I think we can resign Suzuki if we wanted to in the offseason.
  14. I missed the appendectomy for Jason Vargas, so there's another suitor
  15. While I never want to see any player get hurt, the Twins could be beneficiaries as far as trades go. With Molina out for 2 months, the Cards will need a catcher. Suzuki's contract is perfect for the Cards. I don't see the Cards biting on Pierzynski, but maybe the Orioles will with Wieters out. Also starters are going on the DL. Tanaka, CJ Wilson, Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia and Josh Beckett are out. Ignoring Correia's first month, he has been decent and could be a cheap fix for someone. With Jay Bruce moving to first, the Reds need an OF bat, the same with the Yankees with Beltran out, Jays with Bautista having to play first just to name a few. We all know watching the Twins hold the M's to three runs in three games that the M's could use Willingham or perhaps Morales to DH for Corey Hart. Finally, besides Perk, we should dangle all of our relievers out there because we have lots in AAA, such as Achter, Tonkin, etc to replace them Be aggressive, if we can get a contributor for the next year or two, don't be afraid to pull the trigger. Win the game tonight and put some desperation in the M's.
  16. Gardy really protected Johan before the Mets used him like a rented mule. I have always thought Gardy protected his pitchers more than most managers.
  17. This, and is Pinto off the DL at AAA?
  18. I agree with you, especially with Nolasco "ailing" that May will be in Minnesota this month, along hopefully with some of his other Red Wing cohorts from the rotation
  19. Why do we always talk about trading our future players like Dozier. As Terry Ryan once said, we are not a farm team for the big clubs. We are so enamored with prospects here. People complain about being competitive, but then always want to trade for more prospects. Frankly, I would rather we have the ca jones to pull off a Billy Beane trade

    The Nolasco Solution

Sounds like Gardy has had enough....
  21. Another Aussie Todd Van Steesel throwing well in relief for Kernels
  22. Vargas has been slumping, maybe Colabello can go on a surge again. I do appreciate the quick DL this time, the oblique is almost always a guaranteed 15 days. I guess Parms doesn't have to play CF to get in the lineup either.
  23. As far as I am concerned, if they have mastered AA, they should be a candidate for call-up. AAA is full of washed up players and to me AA is the hardest jump, see Baxendale, D.J. May struggled at AA probably because of the high BB rate and thus the high pitch count. At AAA, those rates have decreased dramtically
