  1. With news Yohan Pino will be starting tonight for the Twins (despite a horrible start in Rochester) and Logan Darnell will probably start Saturday, many people are wondering why top pitching prospects Trevor May and Alex Meyer are aren't being called up. Well, it may be frustrating, but someday you will see them in a Twins' uniform (maybe even before they turn 30). However there are plenty of pitchers ahead of them on the front office's list of pitchers they want to see in the Twins' lineup, before May and Meyer. Here's a comprehensive list from an unnamed source within the Twins' organization: Yohan Pino Kris Johnson Logan Darnell Sean Gilmartin Sam Deduno (phase IV) Anthony Swarzak Pat Dean Tyler Duffey Virgil Vazquez Jim Perry (he's still got it) Bert Blyleven (In the HOF for goodness sake) Scott Erickson Mudcat Grant Carlos Silva (Silva! Silva! Silva!) Drew Butera (if they can snag him in a trade) Dan Gladden (career 4.50 ERA) Bob Pohlad (mean slider) Any of the Fox North girls (their curves are devastating) Dave the Cotton Candy Vendor Former mayor R.T. Rybak Billy Mauer The guys from the Carrier commercial Wayne Hattaway (why not?) Trevor May Alex Meyer
  2. Garver and Swim have really been hitting well lately... Although he didn't have any hits today, Swim is hitting .341 with an .809 OPS... Garver is hitting .303...
  3. Since May 1, Plouffe is hitting .218/.272/.379. That doesn't instill much confidence that he's going to have a big second half of the season...
  4. Reality check... Plouffe's rankings among Major League third basemen: OPS (14th), batting average (15th), RBI (11th)... He's middle of the pack in nearly every category... Average... It's not tough to find a bat comparable to his... In fact, Plouffe and Eduardo Escobar are nearly identical in every offensive category, with the exception of Escobar having a higher batting average and Plouffe having more RBI... You only need to look down the bench to find someone comparable...
  5. In my humble opinion, I don't think Plouffe and Kaline should be mentioned in the same paragraph. Plouffe is about as average as average can be. He's a filler, a place holder. Other teams are not going to offer the Twins much, if anything for Plouffe and that speaks quite loudly as to his mediocrity. The major leagues may be thin on quality third basemen, but there's nothing thin about Miguel Sano...
  6. Span's numbers, so far this season: .269/.319/.385... Not exactly an upgrade over Santana/Fuld...
  7. There is no valid reason (other than injury) that Meyer and May should not be in the rotation by the end of the month... They've proven themselves at AAA... What's left? other than a ticket to the show... Pino and Johnson are just fillers, the same AAAA pitchers we've been subjected to for the last three years... They have no future with the team. Any other team in the Twins' position would already have them in the rotation. It's time for them to learn the ropes at the major league level.
  8. When I was watching the game last night and they announced what Mauer's injury was, I knew right away he was going on the disabled list. My first thought to replace him was Vargas. Morales and Vargas can share 1B/DH. Why not? Colabello is a good story, but he's not a part of the Twins' future. Vargas definitely has the potential to be a big part of the future. With his numbers this year, he's definitely earned it.
  9. Seriously??? The only true evaluation of a player's performance for the season is to look at his stats at the end of September... Parmelee has a good 10 days and everyone is putting him on this pedestal... And comparing him to Mauer... Back in April, people were projecting Colabello as a 100+ RBI guy this year... Things change quickly... Players go through ups and downs... I think by the end of the season, Mauer will be somewhere around .300 and Parmelee will be somewhere south of .250... There is really no comparing the two players...
  10. Vargas will not be playing 1B at the major league level (except maybe in a game at a National League park)... He's a DH all the way... See David Ortiz
  11. Not until he gets his head screwed on right... There are players with all the talent in the world, who just can't perform at the major league level, because they don't have the mental/emotional makeup that it takes to be successful. I'm starting to believe that Hicks is one of these players. His head is getting in the way of his playing the game at the level everyone projected... Until he figures that out, he's not worth the space on the major league roster.
  12. I was impressed by Pino's performance. His command and change of speeds were very good. However, after he left the game, all I could think about was Andrew Albers' impressive debut last year... Everyone was praising him like he was the greatest thing since Bert Blyleven... But after that, things weren't so impressive for Albers... What country is he pitching in this year?
  13. It is highly unlikely that they wouldn't be better than Correia... Correia is at the absolute bottom of the Major Leagues as a starter... Both Meyer and May have significantly more talent than Correia, by any standard you can imagine... Would they have some rough patches? Probably... But chances are good they would improve... Every inning Correia pitches is a rough patch and we know he's never going to be any better than this... He stinks... It's a well-established fact...
  14. In 2012, when the Twins dumped Marquis, his stats were: 2-4, 8.47 ERA, 49 ERA+, 1.94 WHIP, 14 BB, 12 SO, 34 innings Correia, so far in 2014: 2-7, 6.11 ERA, 66 ERA+, 1.55 WHIP, 14 BB, 37 SO, 66.1 innings Among MLB starting pitchers this season, he ranks 192nd in ERA, 174th in WHIP and No. 1 in losses... Correia isn't quite at the Marquis threshold, but when you're talking stats this bad, what's the difference?
  15. Exactly... You are right on... The worst that could happen is you lose your DH for a part of a game... Now I can see a reluctance to use Pinto as a pinch hitter, where he hits and then is pulled out of the game, but there's no reason not to DH the guy... Get him some consistent at-bats and he WILL produce... The team can't afford to have him sitting...
  16. Don't forget: Major Leagues Garrett Jones - .279/.344/.479 - Miami Carlos Gomez - .298/.374/.560 - Milwaukee Rene Rivera - .255/.281./.491 - San Diego Danny Valencia - .308/.362/.423 - Kansas City Ryan Doumit - .245/.260/.347 - Atlanta Minor Leagues Matt Tolbert - .210/.290/.226 - Philadelphia Jason Pridie - .292/.348/.456 - Colorado Joe Benson - .197/.313/.299 - Miami Matt Carson - .286/.383/.460 - Cleveland Clete Thomas - .259/.372/.353 - Philadelphia Philip Humber - 1-2, 3.70 ERA - Oakland Tyler Robertson - 0-0, 4.08 ERA - Washington
  17. I find it comical that people have spent nearly 100 posts arguing about two AAAA outfielders... Or maybe three, if you count Fuld... Mastro and Presley are disposable players... They're aren't going to make a lick of difference in the big picture of a season... Hicks needs to play all season for the team to gauge if he's really a part of the future or just another guy with big potential, who washed out. Personally, the team is fine with Santana or Escobar serving as his backup in CF... Unless Hicks suffers an injury they won't be needed anyway. If he does get hurt, then maybe Santana plays every day, if Fuld is still not able to play... Or you bring up the next Mastro or Presley from the minors... They're a dime a dozen... Just let Mastro and Presley fade into the Twins' history book and forget about them... Sort of how I'd completely forgotten about Rene Rivera, until I saw him in the Padres' lineup...
  18. The Twins might prefer to keep Santana over Fuld, since he offers the flexibility of playing SS or CF and he's a way better hitter than Fuld... Not to mention, he appears to be a key piece in the Twins' future, while Fuld is just filler... Colabello will definitely be heading to Rochester, along with Hermann... If Hicks' hot streak goes ice cold again, he may be headed east when the roster moves are needed...
  19. Parmelee is a great AAA hitter. Unfortunately, he has proven, multiple times, he can't handle major league pitching... This is not going to help at all... He's another player who has no place in the Twins' future...
  20. Thank goodness Florimon is gone... If nothing else, that's addition by subtraction for the offense... Now, if they could just subtract Correia from the equation... Things would be even better....
  21. Why is Florimon playing? I just don't get it... He's the worst hitter in the majors... He's more of an automatic out than many National League pitchers... He needs to go away...
  22. I'm saying he never owns up to his bad performances...
  23. Of course, it was the wind that was to blame for Worley's bad outing.... http://www.startribune.com/video/249035031.html#sfcsi
  24. If they'd take Worley for him... I'm all for it...
  25. I totally agree... They just need to get the future players up here... Forget the washouts, re-treads and fillers...
