  1. I think it will be sooner, rather than later, because there will have to be a limit on how many horrible outings Molitor can stomach, before he makes a change. I don't think his leash will be as long as what Gardy typically had in these types of situations.
  2. There is obviously something wrong with Glen Perkins. Here's a guy, who in the recent past, was hitting mid to high 90s on his fastball. Throughout spring training and during his two regular season outings, he's struggling to get his fastball in the 90s. This is usually the sign of a significant arm problem. Who wants to place their bets on how long it takes for Perkins to end up on the DL? I'm going to say that by April 20, he'll be on the DL..
  3. It doesn't sound like he's had any real offers at all. Here's the latest news on him, from a couple days ago. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/03/quick-hits-chacin-morneau-wright-fowler-cardinals.html
  4. Last year, Mauer was .276/.352/.396 in night games and .248/.316/.354 in day games.
  5. Your article spurred me to take a look at Plouffe's stats. He was very good with RISP and pretty consistent in many splits. However, I found it interesting that he was absolutely dreadful last season from the sixth inning on. He was likely the worst hitter on the team, late in the game.
  6. See... He's already injured. All of a sudden, the Quentin signing is looking like a pretty smart move by TR.
  7. Here's the quote from Radcliff: "I don't think we can sugarcoat this at all. There are going to be balls that fall in right field. There are going to be balls that go over his head. He's going to throw to the wrong base. That stuff is going to happen. He's never played outfield in his life. So, this is starting from ground zero. Our hope and belief with a lot of conviction he'll make up for that. He'll hit home runs and be an offensive force, and take care of business that way. There's going to be issues defensively. It's not just in spring training. This will be a project going well into the year, and we'll see about multiple years. He's not going to be great out of the chute." "But his ability to actually have the skills of an outfielder - I don't - if he could become average anytime over the course of this year, that would be an amazing transformation... This will have its rough moments, there's no doubt."
  8. That's what he said... Go back and listen to the interview on ESPN 1500, from Mackey and Judd. Listen to hour 4 of the Monday, Feb. 1 broadcast. http://www.1500espn.com/mackey-judd-ondemand/
  9. You know it's going to happen... And then he'll head north with the team, and by May 1, he'll be hitting .171 with zero homers and 2 RBI.
  10. Just another dumpster diving Terry Ryan signing... Brings back memories of so many others that all turned to garbage... Who could forget Mike Lamb or Joe Crede? Livan Hernandez? And on and on and on... Hmmm... Garbage from dumpster diving, who would have imagined.
  11. I think this would be a disaster from Sano's standpoint. He has made a big deal about wanting to play in the field and the Twins' have committed themselves to making that happen. If they plop him back in the DH position, I don't think it will go over very well.
  12. There was a very revealing interview on this topic yesterday, on ESPN 1500, with Twins' VP Mike Radcliff. He all but admitted it is going to be a rough transition and that there are going to be balls dropping in and glaring mistakes made by Sano, even in the regular season. He said he's never played outfield before and they have no idea what is going to happen. There is, however, a lot of hope and optimism, and we all know what that's worth. He said the dream is that he could eventually get some where near the level of an average outfielder. I don't know about anyone else, but this sounds like a train wreck, waiting to happen.
  13. Of course it's important to stay in good shape, especially with Mauer's injury history. However, maybe he should have taken a page out of the Tony Gwynn hitting book and spent a good chunk of the winter analyzing his swing and hitting approach, figuring out how to fix what has gone wrong.
  14. If all three are pitching well in spring training, Duffey is the guy that will be out of the rotation, heading to Rochester. It's not what I (or I'm sure most fans) want to see, but it's reality. Nolasco is the veteran with the big contract. That alone gives him a big advantage over Duffey when it comes to deciding the rotation. Take a look back over Ryan's tenure and you will see this is the way he always does things.
  15. Unless he gets shelled in spring training, Nolasco will be in the starting rotation. That's just the way the Twins have always done things. I can't see that changing. He's the guy they're paying the big money. Unfortunately, it means that Duffey will likely start the season in Rochester. Is it the right choice? Heck no... Not by any stretch of the imagination, but we will have to endure Nolasco, at least until May, I would imagine. Then they'll stick him on the DL with some kind of injury (real or imagined) and we will see Duffey again.
  16. I don't think it really matters. People keep saying he's fast for his size, but I envision his coverage to be somewhere in the Arcia/Willingham range. However, Arcia has far more experience in the outfield, so Sano, will probably not even be that good. He'll probably cover a bit more ground than Willingham, so he's got that going for him.
  17. Rather than an update about his physical conditioning, I'd much rather hear an update about how he's been working with some hitting guru on sharpening his batting skills this winter.
  18. The Twins have claimed LHP Mike Strong from the Marlins. To make room on the roster, they designated Logan Darnell for assignment. Strong, an Afton native, made it to AAA last year, after a good performance in AA, but struggled with a 7.16 ERA at Colorado Springs. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/twins-claim-mike-strong-designate-logan-darnell.html
  19. I'm not technically inclined enough to post videos on here, nor am I sure its possible with this forum, but if you compare Mauer's 2009 swing to his 2015 swing, there are some differences, especially with his front foot. To me, it would seem that his hips aren't coming through like they used to, which would certainly result in a reduction in power. Maybe someone else could post this so everyone could see the difference.
  20. I don't want to see either one of them trying to track down a fly ball at Target Field.
  21. If the Cubs were able to use a DH, Schwarber would be cemented in that position... And, as I tell my kids, just because someone else is doing it, it doesn't make it right.
  22. Finally... Someone at the national level puts this stupidity of moving Sano to the outfield into context. Having a 270-pound outfielder is like having a 6-foot center in the NBA or a 170-pound tackle in the NFL. It goes against all logic. It is a disaster in the making. It has never worked in the history of professional baseball, but somehow, the Minnesota Twins are going to be the ones to change history... Highly unlikely. TRADE PLOUFFE!!! He's not an all-star... He's average, at best. He's not the key piece of the lineup that will make the difference between a World Championship and another mediocre season. His trade value will never be higher. Get something for him... A pitcher, catcher, outfielder... Just move him to make room for a player that could be the best in franchise history.
  23. Well, at least now we know who will be starting in CF if Buxton begins the year in Rochester. It will be like old times... Ahhh, the memories...
  24. I don't think it's so much that Ryan was left out in the cold, he just never came in from the cold when things were heating up inside. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by this. Since he has returned as the Twins' GM, Ryan has typically made one or two flashy moves (Park this year) then fills in the rest of the holes in the roster with bits and pieces he can pick up off the scrap pile. Between now and spring training he'll sign a few re-tread relievers and a AAAA outfielder, and that's about the best we can hope for. I'm like everyone else. I keep hoping this is the year where things will be different. Maybe this will be the year where they make some serious moves to improve the lineup... But hopes are fading and it looks like more of the same from TR.
