1. There is no international cap on the two Cuban players being referred to. For all those who are complaining about the Twins not signing Marcum, let's remember that every other team in MLB has passed on him too, at least to this point. There has to be a reason. I'm guessing there is some serious concern about his health.
2. Say what you will about the Twins' pitcher signings this winter, but remember this, it can always be worse. The Blue Jays just signed 40-year-old pitcher Ramon Ortiz to a minor league contract. Yikes.... I apologize if mention of the name sparks any PTSD among readers....
3. For those who keep ripping Ryan for every minor league signing he makes, please stop. It's getting quite old and it shows you don't know anything about what happens in MLB, during the winter. Every team in baseball is signing numerous players like Clete Thomas. Every team needs organizational depth and fillers. GMs don't pretend that these guys are going to make a difference in the organization, because it's widely understood what their roles are. It's nothing to get worked up about and Ryan is not failing the organization or the fans by signing them. Every GM is doing it. They have to. Just follow the signings on this site and you'll see Ryan is doing the same thing as every other GM. Fantasy Baseball player news, injuries and analysis - Rotoworld.com
4. The lack of interest in him is more likely tied to his personality, rather than his pitching abilities.
5. You overlooked the fact he's a seasoned veteran with lots of moxie....
6. The Twins signed pitcher Scott Elarton, another minor league filler. Elarton had 26 starts for the Phillies in AAA last year and posted a 5.41 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. He's 36 years old and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2008.
7. I don't think I have seen more negativity or anger over a single topic that has been posted on TD. I think most of it is just disappointment this signing isn't a bigger fish. Sure, Correia isn't a high profile strikeout pitcher, but lets give him a chance, before we burn him at the stake. Personally I like this signing. I envision Correia being very similar to Pavano in his first two seasons with the Twins. I think he's a guy that can go out there and keep the Twins in the game and give them a chance to win. These comparisons to Blackburn and Walters are more than a little ridiculous. Apparently all this snow has frozen people's brains and they've already forgotten how absolutely horrible the Twins' pitching was last season. Here's a refresher: Liriano, 3-10, 5.31 ERA, 1.44 WHIP Blackburn, 4-9, 7.39 ERA, 1.71 WHIP Walters, 2-5, 5.69 ERA, 1.51 WHIP Hendriks, 1-8, 5.59 ERA, 1.55 WHIP Are the memories coming back now? To say these guys are equal to or better than Correia is absolute hogwash. He'll definitely be an upgrade to the rotation and I'm confident TR will sign a more significant name to add to the rotation, in the coming weeks.
8. I think the Rays took the Royals to the cleaners. Shields is good, but not worth that price. And let's not forget, the Royals had Greinke and how far did he take them?
9. The biggest problem with Benson is his personality. Throughout the season on ESPN 1500, Molitor talked about how Benson has a lot of maturing to do, before he was ready for the majors. He lets his emotions get out of control, which affects his performance. Molitor even seemed to suggest that he didn't know if Benson could overcome this. My bet is that they will give Hicks every opportunity to win the CF position. Having him in the lineup, especially if he's playing decent, could help pacify the average fan after the losses of Span and Revere. He could offer that spark the fans like to see. Although Mastro is a good 4th outfielder, I don't think he's the type of player that puts fans in the seats, which is something that will be crucial for the Twins this year, after two horrible seasons.
10. ESPN's Buster Olney is saying the Twins have been talking about a one-year offer with Francisco Liriano's agents. https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/274167684017565696 Talk about taking a step backward! I can't believe the Twins would want to put up with him for another year. He makes my blood pressure boil. I can't imagine what he does to Gardy and Anderson. UPDATE [ADMIN]: Darren Wolfson spoke with a Twins official who said this in reply to the news:
11. According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Angels have claimed infielder Thomas Field off waivers, from the Twins. One less guy on the 40-man roster.
12. He's no longer considered a catcher. He's a first baseman.
13. I'm guessing the Twins aren't going to spend big money on MI help, but they could likely find some players that are better than the current cast of misfits. I recently saw that Eugenio Velez elected free agency. He played for Memphis last year and had a .280/.358/.449 line, with 11 HR, 58 RBI and 37 SB. Certainly looks better than what the Twins have. He has some major league experience. There has to be a few players like this that the Twins could take a chance on.
14. Kyle Gibson's string of quality outings in the Arizona Fall League came to an end this afternoon. In just two innings, Gibson allowed eight hits and six earned runs for Peoria in its game with Scottsdale. Gibson had 1 BB and 1 SO. His ERA now stands at 4.20.
15. Joe C. is reporting the Twins declined Baker's option... http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/176302831.html
16. Twins' prospects Oswaldo Arcia and Aaron Hicks are playing in the Venezuela Winter League, which started play last week. Hicks is batting .357/.400/.429 with a double and two RBI in three games. Arcia is hitting .182/.250/.273 with a double in four games. Pitcher David Bromberg is also playing in Venezuela. He has started one game and has a 3.38 ERA and 2.25 WHIP, with 4 BB and 3 SO. Chris Colabello, who played with New Britain this season, is playing in the Mexican League. He's hitting .429/.556/.857 with three doubles and three RBI in two games.
17. Serving as the designated hitter, Twins' prospect Chris Herrmann ripped a double, walked and scored a run for the Peoria Javelinas in a 13-3 loss to Phoenix on Friday, in Arizona Fall League action. Herrmann was the only Twins' player who saw action in the game. He's now hitting .571.
18. I would rather have my hair set on fire and have it extinguished with a sledge hammer... I can't believe you would even bring up the topic. If he was the last pitcher left on the planet, I would pick Drew Butera ahead of him.
19. Twins' prospect Kyle Gibson turned in an impressive performance in his Arizona Fall League debut, to help Peoria blank Phoenix 6-0 on Thursday. Gibson pitched five innings and allowed four hits, while striking out eight and walking none. Fellow Twins' prospects Michael Tonkin, Logan Darnell and Caleb Thielbar pitched four innings of scoreless relief for the Javelinas, to preserve the shutout. Twins' outfield prospect Nate Roberts had a big day offensively for the Javelinas. He collected two hits, walked, stole a base, drove in a run and scored a run.
20. Roberts is starting in today's game.
21. I think the obvious spot the Twins could improve offense is by picking either a SS or 2B that is a decent hitter. The middle infield was the most glaring hole in the Twins offense this season. I don't think Ryan nor Gardy were particularly impressed with any of the players they ran through the middle infield. I like the earlier suggestion of picking up Kelly Johnson. A move to a new team could be the spark he needs to have a turn-around season. He's not likely to be worse than anyone else the Twins threw out there this season.
22. Catcher Chris Herrmann, who was a September call-up for the Twins, collected three hits and scored a run for Peoria in an 8-4 loss to Surprise on Wednesday, in Arizona Fall League action. Outfielder Evan Bigley went hitless in four at-bats.
23. Twins prospect Evan Bigley doubled and scored a run to help the Peoria Javelinas beat Surprise 5-2 in their Arizona Fall League opener on Tuesday. Bigley, who played left field, was the only Twin in the lineup.
24. I was checking the MLB.com transactions page this morning and this was posted under 10/8/2012:

10/08/12 Minnesota Twins placed CF Lew Ford on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 14, 2003.

Minnesota Twins placed LF Lew Ford on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 14, 2006.

What the heck? Here's the link: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/transactions/?tcid=mm_mlb_players#month=10&year=2012
25. Although the Twins' miserable season is over, there is still some baseball to follow, as seven Twins' prospects compete in the Arizona Fall League. Pitchers Logan Darnell, Kyle Gibson, Caleb Thielbar and Michael Tonkin; along with catcher Chris Herrmann and outfielders Nate Roberts and Evan Bigley are playing for the Peoria Javelinas. The Javelinas open their season against Surprise on Wednesday, Oct. 10. For complete coverage on the Arizona Fall League, go to http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/afl/index.jsp.
