  1. Great stuff. For every, say Miranda, that is off to a disappointing start, there is a Rortveldt that is shining. Glad to see him persevere through--and learn from--last year.
  2. Suniaga did well enough for a kid who got jumped up. According to my quick search, he was the TD #3 Short Season Pitcher of the Year in 2017, mostly pitching in the GCL, with a short stretch at Etown. This may just be a short term fill in deal for him, but way to go seizing the opportunity.
  3. Thanks for giving Pressly his due. I was one who didn't think he'd ever turn the corner, but I'm glad I've been wrong about that.
  4. I was thinking about this as well. Theory: Consider that on average, MLB teams use about 10 different starting pitchers in a given season. So in addition to the trickle down effect that has on a minor league system, you have to figure each Milb team needs to plan for more than 5 starters. Probably not 10; I would assume as part of that MLB 10 you are dealing with both injuries and ineffectiveness, where with the Milb teams, you'd mostly plan have to worry about injuries. Bottom line, a couple of injuries at each level, and next thing you know you've got a whole system out of whack. Miles Jaye is pitching at AAA so that [insert name of 18 year old in EST] does not get thrown in A ball before they are ready. Also, as you consider my theory, remember what Jack Handey said--"I think one of the first signs your radarscope is going out is something I call 'image fuzz out.' But I've never actually seen a radarscope, so don't totally go by what I am saying here."
  5. I'm still adjusting to having a winners mentality. When Hildy came back out (after some confusion?) I thought, "Oh, this is it. Bummer." Wrong was I. This is fun. Expecting to win is a lot better than hoping to.
  6. That game went just the way Cleveland drew it up. Dominant start by Kluber, Miller/Allen endgame, momentum grabbing HR from Lindor. If they could do that every night, they'd go 162-0. I'm kind of glad Berrios didn't go last night. At some point he will have to face down Kluber, but I will be happy if he pitches well tonight and the Twins split. I wouldn't be surprised if the team that doesn't win the division doesn't make the playoffs at all this year--and the team that does make the last wild card spot will be facing someone like Kuechel, Cole, or Otani. Not a must win, but this is a tone setting game tonight for sure.
  7. One of the FO's finest moves was transforming Ynoa into Littell, via Garcia. And Enns, but hanging onto him at the cost of others might turn out to be one of their worst moves. Actually, I better check Ynoa's stats...17.37 ERA so far. Okay, yeah.
  8. I checked in on the box scores in progress and saw Stewart's perfect game disappear. Thanks for giving the rundown of what happened. There's always more to the story than what the final box reveals. The K-Man remains intriguing.
  9. Wade and Gordon are Mauer-like. I dig the long ball as much as anybody, except maybe Chick. But it is fun to watch a game changing single as well. No walks today for Thorpe. Working the process, hopefully? Good for LaMarre. I read yesterday the fellow top prospect Ronald Acuna, was also sent to AAA undeservedly, and has responded by hitting .143 to start the year.
  10. It's worth clicking on that Cedar Rapids boxscore and looking at those top three hitters. Great night all around--lots of great performances. Nice outing from Curtiss.
  11. Storybook stuff. Nicely written. There, I wrote four words to celebrate the career of Oswaldo Arcia.
  12. Mauer's not flipping around this year, darn it. In fact, he was at batting practice, and the batboy asked him which bat was his, and Mauer finished dipping his French fry in mayonnaise, and then said, "It's the one that says Bad Mauer Flipper on it." Mauer's a stud, and that is not fiction of any kind. Berrios is a stud too. A stud muffin even. Pressly is gaining my confidence, and Moya has it. I'll be bummed if he gets shipped out tonight.
  13. If everybody on the team was totally kicking ass, they'd be on pace to win 162. Luckily (or statistically?) things have broken in their favor, despite a few sub-par performances. This is a really exciting team to follow right now. Nonetheless, it is pretty easy to second guess some of the FO's offseason roster constructing right now, particularly as regards to the bullpen. I'm sure they'd do it a bit differently if they had it to do over.
  14. Cory Provus' voice did, therefore I did as well. As long as the Twins keep winning, I like that Molitor is sticking with Hildenberger and others that are struggling. There is something to be said for trust and loyalty. Again, as long as the team is winning. Builds good feelings all around to pick each other up. Wish he'd give Moya a shot in some tighter spots.
  15. That's an extremely quick look at bullpen usage, at least on my computer. I was listening to the game, paused it to run some errands, and came back to find the score had gone from 0-1 to 8-1. Disappointed I'd missed it, I was delighted when I unpaused and the radio was still right where I'd left it. By the time I got done listening to the 8 run rally, I checked the realtime score again and it was 8-6. Sheesh. I'm a neophyte, but it seems like when Max means it, his bat speed is ferociously fast. Is there a device that measures bat speed yet? Man, toe to toe with the Astros. What was the final run tally? 13-11?
  16. Navarretto caught Stewart last night. I'm just going to tuck that away. For the next four days, at least, I'm going to dream on what a boon it would be if the light turned on for Stewart.
  17. Okay, I did that. All the spam is gone off the feed, ergo, it worked! Really nice guy on the other end, btw. He pronounced "pin" as "peen," and all his w's sounded like v's. Quite charming.
  18. Is it ironic that I "like" more comments in a game thread, before the game actually starts? Or is it just moronic?
  19. Gotta make a comment, even if I have nothing witty to say. The spambots must not be allowed to take over the top spot on the TD feed!
  20. Excellent stories, and great illustration of your point, to which I agree. Despite having no catching expertise whatsoever. But more importantly, did your Dad really use a date with his sister as a means to win a baseball game? Classic big brother move. Or little.
  21. Would a bullet train between MSP and Fort Myers be cheaper than putting a retractable roof on? The Twins could play early and late season games where it is warm, while still allowing the hometown fans a chance to watch. Plus, you could maybe come up with a marketing deal with the nickname. Kind of a fire and ice thing.
  22. Silva for cash? Interesting. I know one poster who won't be happy about that. Those kind of backroom machinations fascinate me. Why do a thing like that? Has he got a character issue? Is it just too many catchers? Anyway, great report.
  23. Our Pythagorean record is off to a good start.
