  1. Just voted. If you read the fine print at the bottom, people who vote will get a free, non-renewing two-week subscription to MLB-TV for July 12-26. So that is something. These guys should take their snubs, take a vacation, and then come back and do something real special.
  2. Thanks for this article. Sound like great guys. Dobnak seems a quite unassuming, considering the winding path he's taken. Sounds like he makes a good impression. With Gore, was his promotion mainly because of an injury and then he'll be back down? Or they just skipped him a level because he can? Anyway, thanks. Enjoyed reading about these guys--and hearing what they have to say.
  3. Noticed Jermaine Palacios in the Fort Myers/"Rays" boxscore. I was always a fan, but it doesn't look like his year has gone well.
  4. Superior, splendiferous stat sheet stuffing. I've always had perhaps unfounded hope in Jorge's potential. Maybe he'll make it through waivers... Nah. The Dodgers will have him in AAA in three weeks. (I joke)
  5. Great interview. Not your typical, cliched answers--he opened up a bit. Did he really mean to say he's "uncomfortable" with his fastball? I would think that might be a good thing to leak to opposing hitters, actually.
  6. When I get frustrated with the Twins and the current mediocrity, I have to remind myself that, yes, Sano and Buxton are in the minor leagues and not the leaderboard. Truly a phenomenal swing of the pendulum. I believe in a human's ability to work through the tough times. They both have the talent. If Sano can find his way out of these woods, he will be a fearsome sight to behold.
  7. Well, umm, I got to confess I peeked under the tree already. I'm just going to toss this turdburger in the garbage and wait for the minor league report. Probably going to take a while, though.
  8. Well, one nice thing about this year is that we're able to just cut and paste the same comments from other losses. Someone should make a bingo board. 2 run game or not, without the Ed's, this game was out of reach. I'd imagine Pressly was using it as a spring training game, "working on some stuff." Did Betts get any chin music?
  9. Hell of a report. Way too much to comment on. Jeffers is making a mockery of rookie leagues.
  10. And after a couple of E-town games, its ready to start my "Is he Angel Morales or is he Eddie Rosario" watch with a whole bunch of different players.
  11. It's been mentioned, but the pitching depth is not something we're accustomed to. I'm not going to drag any names from the past through the mud now, but if Gonsalves is currently our "number 9" starter, I like the Twins' chances of withstanding a war of attrition with Cleveland. Ditto with the bullpen. And while I'm not on the promote-them-now bandwagon, Gordon and Wade offer some decent depth on the position side, albeit unproven. Its just that pesky catcher position that seems to be wanting.
  12. Great to see Whitefield back in action. I'll admit I stereotype all Aussies with a hint of Crocodile Dundee, but with Whitefield and his unorthodox background, maybe it fits a bit more. Especially in an age of kids getting specialized in their sport at such young ages, it is always refreshing when an athlete-regardless of nationality--does it the old-fashioned way. I like to think that at an age when most future professional ballplayers were getting toted around in mini-vans from camp to camp, he was out winging boomerangs at wombats. Having said all that, Teng sounds like the opposite--a product of the Taiwanese baseball system and a former Little League World Series participant. Equally good to have him on board.
  13. Nothing like an unaligned, flawed suppository to ruin your season.
  14. I'm starting to think that whole "record in one-run games" stat is kind of meaningless. This was a tight game that was within 1 run most of the way. Subtract out a Grossman triple (two words you won't see together often) and any one of two Lamarre walks or Mauer HBP's and they win by one. If there need to be tie-breakers in The Who is Less Evil contest between Boston and NY, I have to say their radio announcers are great. The one guy sounds like he's straight from central casting. They were just commenting complementary about Escobar and how he wasn't getting fluke doubles to pad his total when he went and hit one. Probably the best win of the season for me--Berrios held it together and pitched like an ace, and the (one of) the big guns came through in the clutch. Twice. And Lamarre "ignited" both rallies, on a night when Buxton was 0fer in AAA. (OK, that part sucks. But good for Lamarre.)
  15. I have to disagree. The pace would be the same. Actually slower, because I'd think that starting pitchers would become less relevant. The best relievers would just come in two innings sooner. Just my two cents.
  16. Nice, even-handed look, Nick. As a side by side comparison, the D-Backs and Lovullo have some similarities. They've endured quite a few injuries. In a year when the Dodgers are down, they're seizing the moment. Molitor seems like a guy who trusts his players and sticks behind them. It's pretty easy to remember his mistakes, less easy to note the things he's done well--good news is no news, so to speak. I don't see a midseason firing as doing any good; it would kind of be like trading Dozier--better to do like Molitor would do, ride it out, and see what happens. As disappointing as this team has been, this is no 2016.
  17. Arraez making up for lost time. He feels like a guy who, if he was on the 40 man already for some reason, could probably hold his own if he was called up in a pinch. I don't care if its A-ball, good to see Sano hit. Don't recognize many names on the GCL--any sleeper prospects in there?
  18. You have to admit that watching the team flail away, you have to wonder if they are swinging non-corporeal "ghost" bats.
  19. I'm willing to give the ghost of Francois Mitterrand a chance.
  20. I agree with both paragraphs. As interesting as statistical analysis has made baseball, if the games followed the numbers I wouldn't need to watch. Dreaming on a big trade or an explosion from Dozier is the carrot that keeps me going. I'm thinking if Santana came back today, Romero would go to AAA. In two or three weeks, all things being equal, it might be Romero to the bullpen.
  21. Turns out Stewart is two months younger than me...which means that despite Ichiro's temporary retirement, there is still a professional baseball player older than me! It's almost like that thing from The Polar Express, where I can still hear Santa's magic bell ringing.
  22. How many Defcon levels are there? I'm assuming our Defcon's go to 11. Also, how does Total System Failure work into the Defcon protocols? As crappy as so many guys are playing on offense, it is amazing they are anywhere near Cleveland in the standings. A lot of people would jettison players, but at this point, I think if I'm in charge (ha!) I roll the dice that Dozier, Morrison, et al, get rolling before its too late. Its been said, but this team could use a Shannon Stewart type spark. The Mariners and the D-backs have been early traders, and both acquired a Stewart type player. Now, I realize there are many factors at play, and correlation doesn't equal causation and all that or something, but hey, they're both in first place. With Kepler's struggles, Buxton's uncertainty, and the underwhelming contributions from Grossman, Lamarre, and Cave, a quality veteran OFer would be on my wishlist.
  23. I took the family to see Infinity War while this was happening--(not?)surprisingly packed on a rainy Sunday/Father's Day two months after it opened. Seems like Thanos snapped his fingers and half of all Dads who are baseball fans were disappointed today. The odds of the Avengers defeating Thanos were something like 1 in 14 million; surely the Twins still have a chance. Tomorrow, Berrios v. Sale--THAT is THE season defining game, the must win of must wins, Rocky Balboa in the 14th round-back flat against the wall type of stuff. I hope Berrios didn't just read that sentence.
