  1. Yes! Moran is no slouch either. Seems like he is a lot like Alcala. But Duran is who I was talking about.
  2. I looked at the game log to see what happened with Moran and the 3 runs. I've actually been doing that more to try and get context. Seemed like a pretty dominant game. Gave up a run somehow somewhere, and then I think a single and a walk or HBP in the top of the 7th and got pulled; the runs scored later. Pretty much what was said above. Just elaborating slightly. Nice game. With all of the speedy OF types the FO has acquired in the last year--Pearson, Cave, Celestino, Masiel, it seems like they were watching Buxton's defense thinking "this is great, but dangerous. We need more of those guys."
  3. According to Ash, it sounds like the Twins will need to keep Gonsalves, in order to avoid having to face him. Gordon's socks should be worn to reflect his current energy level, like on a video game. Clearly, it sounds like he is in low energy mode. In fact, it might be so low his shoes should be flashing. Both these guys sound like the types of players you use to acquire a half-season of Manny Machado or whomever, if you are in the hunt. In June...
  4. I'm thinking along the lines of mikelink above--the team will succeed around an ascendent core of pitchers, led by Berrios, Romero, and Graterol sooner than later hopefully--with Gibson as the veteran. As those guys go through their pitching arcs of success, the various position guys can sink and swim. I haven't given up on Sano and Buxton, but I just don't see them as the lynchpins anymore.
  5. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/ranking-the-prospects-traded-at-the-deadline-2/ If you want to play "what if,' check out this article. What if Fangraph's is right, and what if the Twins had done things different. For instance, maybe they jump in earlier and get Drury instead of Austin for Lynn. How did the Mets get the 8th best (Fangraphs) prospect for Cabrera? Still, what if's aside, not a bad haul in Fangraph's estimation. Duran has "arguably the best stuff of any prospect traded." So that could be good.
  6. Sometimes you're the soul, and sometimes you're squashed by the sole.
  7. They could have done him a courtesy anyway by not putting the QO on him. Nonetheless, I have a feeling that this move was a courtesy move, for all parties involved. Andrew Friedman probably finished the transaction with a "Thanks, Derek, I owe you one." One what, you ask? I don't know. Future considerations, like a Moscow Mule or probably something trendier.
  8. 16 runs in 17 2/3 innings? Doesn't look as bad when you take a deeper look at his peripherals. Over the last 5 days, his pitch-to-run (PtR) ratio is a minuscule 16:3. Or maybe that was 16:4. Either way, that is pretty darn something. I repeat, Belisle has a minuscule PtR.
  9. One of my past gags was comparing some of these guys to the actual Magnificent Seven--both the original movie and the remake. Out of my original 7, only Berrios and Rosario didn't make this, less auspicious list. I looked up synonyms for 'uncertain'. A few options: The Dubious Seven The Unresolved Seven The Precarious Seven The 'Hanging By a Thread' Seven Take your pick, or choose your own.
  10. All things being equal. I just wonder what the piece(s) were that held things up from the Twins end. I wish there was some kind of Freedom of Information act, where you could go back and read the transcripts of the trade negotiations. Was it someone like Bellinger, still an obvious no-brainer? How about Verdugo, who still hasn't quite come around?
  11. If the Dodgers and Twins could wind back the clock, do you think they both wish they just could've gotten the deal done a year and half ago? Mightn't Dozier have pushed them over the top, back when he was hot? Shoulda, woulda, coulda, over course. Glad I didn't endure Doze hitting bombs elsewhere while Deleon was on the shelf.
  12. Great opportunity to reuse some of my media! This is Molitor right now, watching as the Aliens pick off his Marines one by one. I'm picturing flatlines through Tom's pitcher usage graph later.
  13. I just wasted 60 seconds of my life looking this bloke up. File him in the Kemmer/Hazelbaker category. Generously.
  14. New York's bullpen of All-Star Closers seems like it is destined to implode. Or excel. I guess I have to kind of admire what they are doing. As for this move--will it amount to anything down the line? Reading that article about Costello, you got to root for the guy, although he seems more like a future coach then a future regular.
  15. Ah ha. I guess I should delete what I just posted.
  16. Weird stuff. He is listed in the lineup for the Twins. Was pinch-hit for in a convoluted multiple switch that left Hazelbaker in CF, in part because Buxton found his way back in the lineup--at DH. Dammit Smithers! This is rocket science, not brain surgery!
  17. Any word on Buxton? Played a couple days ago, hit a homer, then crickets. Here's hoping Ernesto de la Trinidad someday makes the big leagues, becomes a fan favorite...and signs a nice contract extension.
  18. Good thing those trades brought valu back. Always go with the value pack of wall hangers, even if it means trading your best painting to get them. On the plus side--they look new and shiny!
  19. Yeah, in the end, I'm reminded of my dear old JV Football coach, purveyor of classic inspirational quotes like "Don't get in a pissing contest with a skunk," or, "You've got em in bed, now make love to em." In this case I'm thinking of: "Piss-poor planning prevents perfect performance." It may not be a perfect analogy, but I am reminded of (I think) the Castillo trade, which precipitated the end of the Johan era, and competitiveness in general, for a decade.
  20. I was feeling this way as well, but who knows--maybe a deal for Duke was in the works too, and fell through or something. I'm guessing that is why Wilson didn't play, as well...
  21. Ozzie Guillen agrees--from a June 30th Pioneer Press article: That, along with his stunning production, should make Escobar extremely marketable this summer should the Twins continue their downturn and begin to sell off parts for future help. Set to reach free agency for the first time this winter, Escobar could soon find himself in a new uniform and a pressure-packed pennant race. “If Escobar gets traded, I don’t mind if he gets traded somewhere to help,” Guillen said. “But I would be back after that to play for the Minnesota Twins again. That’s what I would say to him.” https://www.twincities.com/2018/06/30/twins-eduardo-escobar-has-turned-into-ozzie-guillens-greatest-discovery/
