  1. The Twins haven't faced many lefties at all. Jeffers does have good splits against left handers so starting him often against lefties makes sense. Jeffers has made a few bad plays, including the "wild pitch" charged to Stewart, but he's been a better offensive player than Vazquez. His throwing looks improved overall, but it's probably too soon to make a judgment.
  2. There's a thread about this. Yes, the Twins have been beyond awful with the bases loaded, but they've been more than respectable with runners in scoring position and have hit the second most three-run homers. One stat doesn't tell the whole story.
  3. There are a lot of players in the same boat as Miranda. AJ Melendez for the Royals looks like a tremendous prospect to me, but he's slumping and fanning much like Miranda. I'm sure there are others. If the Twins can afford to send Miranda down, they probably should do it, but a couple of hits can restore the confidence and change things in a hurry as well.
  4. This might be off-topic, but this shows the double-edged sword of a specialist like Hamilton. With the ghost runner shortening games, I would use Hamilton after a lead off walk 100% of the time. It didn’t work out for Chicago this time and Hamilton had to hit in a game situation not once, but twice. He is a real weapon on the bases, but a waste of a roster spot otherwise. Hamilton spent a lot of time on third base, but his team couldn’t drive him in. If he had scored on a short fly ball or wild pitch, he’s a hero and Grifol looks pretty smart.
  5. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Hanser Alberto swung at a pitch that hit him. He is Astudillo-like without contact skills. It absolutely was a key play in winning the game. Stewart pitched well and bailed out Jeffers after he failed to catch/block a low pitch. Pagan got outs and Jorge Lopez had a nice comeback outing.
  6. Nick has exactly one hit in each of his last five games. I'm not quite ready to ignore the first 50 PAs for the last 15.
  7. It's nearly certain that Farmer will be back before Kirilloff is recalled. A case could be made for DFAing Solano then. Farmer is more versatile and is also a right handed hitter. If it is Kirilloff time, he could replace Castro or maybe Larnach.
  8. I'll split the difference Ash. The bullpen was effective. Despite having an ideal situation for Billy Hamilton to steal the game, they kept 'em off the board. Many of the free passes were strategic (four IBB). Pitching out of Manfred jams wasn't easy, but they did it.
  9. They didn't use Jax or Thielbar and still had a really good performance from the 'pen. If Stewart, Pagan and Moran can be reliable, it will make a huge difference.
  10. Absent an injury, Trevor has about a week to win back a spot on the team, I think. Larnach has had basically regular duty for five weeks. That is a pretty good audition.
  11. Coulombe did give up a couple today.
  12. So, Hamilton gets to be a designated runner five times in three games, how does that happen?
  13. Oh wait! Was that a hit with the bases loaded? I didn't think that was allowed.
  14. How big a lead did Moran have in Boston in extra innings?
  15. Juicy situation for (GDP) Correa.
  16. Beat out a roller down the third base line.
  17. Great bad base running by Larnach!!!
  18. They got him in with a hit. I was referring to scoring by advancing runners without hits.
  19. It would be absolutely fitting if Billy Hamilton won this game with his bat. I'm writing this before the result. I'll hit send if he does it.
  20. The thing is you need two successful components to "get 'em over, get 'em in". The White Sox have been able to advance runners to third, but not get them in for this series. The Twins have failed to get them over.
  21. Buxton has been one of the few that haven't chased much lately.........until that at-bat.
