    I shouldn't say this so early, but this ump has been very good so far. Only one pitch called a strike that was clearly out of the zone. I haven't seen any in the box called a ball.

    Yep. The classic "trade for now" transaction was Doyle Alexander to the Tigers for a minor leaguer. Alexander was great for the Tigers (9-0 1.53 ERA) that year, but the Twins beat the Kitties in the playoffs. Oh BTW, the minor leaguer was John Smoltz, a future Hall of Famer.

    It would make sense to pitch around Witt, but it's like giving him a double and putting two in scoring position.

    Woods Richardson doesn't miss that many bats, but when he's throwing strikes, he's effective.

    Surprising stat--the Twins have the 9th best OPS vs. left handed pitching while their OPS vs. right handed pitching is 20th. The Twins have a .684 OPS vs. right handers and .745 OPS vs lefties.

    Vázquez isn't the ideal partner for Jeffers, at least not at that salary. He's being paid as a starter and he should be the backup. I'm puzzled how his offense has fallen off since he joined the Twins. He was the DH for Puerto Rico in the WBC a couple of times and their roster was really good. Now he can't get over the Mendoza line and has terrible stats across the board.

    Pitcher Diego Castillo officially added to the active roster. Topa transferred to the 60-day IL.

    While Julien is currently on the bottom of in performance of the optionable talent, the options to replace him all are pretty questionable. Austin Martin was at about .650 OPS when he was sent out and he played almost exclusively in the outfield. Kyle Farmer is looking up at the Mendoza line with zero homers in almost 100 plate appearances. AFAIK, Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee have played zero games at second base as professionals and Jose Miranda hasn't played there since 2021. Willi Castro has played no innings at second this year and only a handful in 2023. He remains the best in left field most of the time.

    Margot can declare free agency and keep the money if he is DFA'd and unclaimed. The Twins will pay the $4M they agreed to pay when the trade was made. This is very similar to the Aaron Hicks situation last summer, except that Margot is in his walk year.

    He's played two games as the DH. While so far all signs are positive, I don't believe there is proof that Lewis is "100% healthy". After the off day yesterday, let's see him play in the field for a couple of games as well as hit. Everyone wants to see Lewis return ASAP. I think it is reasonable for him to be back before the calendar is turned over to June, but two games of rehab is not letting him "slowly rot away".

    I noticed postgame that what was originally scored a hit for Kepler in the eighth was changed to an error on Witt Jr. I believe that was the proper call. The Royals' late rally resulted in KC having more hits than the Twins. This was the first game all season where the Twins were outhit, but still managed to win the game.

    The thing about Margot is that he seems to have drastically reduced speed. I know he had knee troubles, but his sprint speed was better last year than it had been in 2022. This year, he is below average, when he used to be pretty close to elite. Out of shape? Maybe. In today's professional sports environment, that shouldn't happen, especially with a 29-year-old.

    Optimistic take. I don't fault a back foot curve ball, keep it out of the whomp 'em zone and quite possibly end the game. Every once in a while, it hits a foot. The Twins haven't had the back end whole yet this year. I guess that is the way it goes with all the pitching injuries in baseball. If they could get all three and add two or three from those mentioned, they have an very good bullpen. It is true that Funderburk hasn't emerged and Jackson was disappointing, but there still are plenty of arms available. Relief pitchers are so hard to predict and project.

    Great players like Mike Trout, who had surgery while in a 4-35 slump. Perhaps my thought could be misunderstood. I didn't say that Kirilloff, Jeffers or Julien were great players, but even great players have slumps. I know Killebrew went through some skids in his career, as did Puckett. Strikeouts are far more common in today's game. That is a fact of life. Mentioning Williams numbers of 60+ years ago doesn't make much difference. Yes, Yogi Berra hit more homers in a season than he had strikeouts. I believe Joe DiMaggio did the same.

    Julien has had a miserable month, so has Kirilloff, Jeffers has fallen off quite a bit. That's baseball. Great players have slumps, but by the end of the year, things almost always balance out. It's super hard to be patient watching Julien take strike three almost once a game, but if/when it turns into a 15% walk rate with decreased strikeouts, it will be acceptable again. It is the coaching staff and front office's job to determine if a player can cut it or whether they will never get to the point where they will be a trusted regular. So far, they are sticking with Julien, but I believe their patience is wavering a bit. I truly don't believe they want to cut bait on a single position player on the active roster. I would bet on a minor injury trip to the IL for someone before any of the current 13 are sent to the minors. Further, I think it puts Keirsey on the back burner despite a really good run hitting and perceived skill as an outfield defender.

    Santana hasn't started three of the last five games. Given his poor numbers against right handed pitching, that is the right call. I'd much rather see Larnach, Kirilloff and Miranda in the lineup against right handed pitching. He'll be in there tomorrow against Ragans and that also is justified by the stats of one-third of a season.

    They're 0-5 against the Guards. There are eight more games remaining and the Twins could turn it around. I think if they want to win the Central, they need to win six (or more) of eight.
