  1. Mozart, Einstein, Da Vinci, and Neil Armstrong probably didn't think so.
  2. Taught is one thing, learned is another. A first year Calculus class is a prime example of this.
  3. Good luck, and a full and speedy recovery, Mr. Ryan.
  4. Published last November. Available both in print and e-book formats. "Perfecting Your Pitch: How to Succeed in Business and in Life by Finding Words That Work."
  5. Off-topic: Much of that hostility has been building up for some time. It just burst out here. I wish I had useful suggestions about de-fusing that, but I don't. On-topic: Looking at the really big picture, I hope the Twins Community Fund benefits from the increased attention the team receives from the All-Star hosting. One of the things I like about this organization is the ties to the (to my) community. In the eternal forest/trees conundrum, this is a far more important matter to me. Otherwise, as Riverbrian says above, I just want to watch good baseball. When I go to a film, I don't judge it by how many Oscars I think it will win, but by how it makes me feel. Baseball is a sport, but it's also a performance art, and the quality of the performance suffices as an end in itself. I think this is my longest post here ever. Time to go back to lurking.
  6. Perhaps if, after the All-Star game, people have a better impression of Minneapolis than they do of Sochi.
  7. I suppose they were thinking in terms of a Pudge Rodriguez type of career. Stuff happens.
  8. If most of those come to pass, it will be a great success, regardless of the 2014 standings. I'd like to add Kyle Gibson and Michael Tonkin to that first bullet point.
  9. Sounds about right. That does not mean that there won't be more entertaining baseball played by the team this year, with interest rising as the kids make their way up the ladder.
  10. Puck wearing the snoopy hat, and Berenguer's brief case.
  11. I think continuing to beat my head against a wall is an exercise in futility. I'll stop now.
  12. I may be wrong, but perhaps it would be best just to acknowledge that it is a double standard, but a harmless one. And that if it becomes non-harmless it will be re-evaluated. Trying to do these two-steps around it just needlessly injures credibility. Believe it or not, we actually want to get along. But honesty is a bidirectional mapping that needs to be respected on both ends.
  13. My mistake. See, I'm a snob about intellectual honesty. That doesn't address the perceptions of selective moderation, but instead tries to turn it into another joke. That's just kind of unfortunate. You guys are good. Really good. Don't let that prevent improvement.
  14. I don't demand anything. It's not my site.
  15. Are threads in this forum really intended to be treated as jokes?
  16. Instead of 2013 Correia as the standard I'd prefer 2010 Pavano. If any of them match that level it would be great. If two of them match it, there may be some noise in Target Field.
  17. It's the previous set of discussion groups that was replaced by this one. My main concern about moderation is that sometimes it seems people who moved over from that site are treated preferentially from those who joined here for the first time.
  18. I tell you, the one thing I don't want to see is Hicks become the next Carlos Gomez, going on to shine elsewhere because we gave up on him a couple years too soon. Patience am good .
  19. Wow! Where do I sign up? /irony I would actually pay real money to see Johan one more time, even if he gets shelled.
  20. Yes, I've also noticed that people throw out the term "regression" without realizing how statistical regression differs from the common usage. And not just here, of course. Gauss is rolling over in his tomb...
  21. I would retire, take the Golden Parachute, and let Terry Ryan have the job back.
  22. They are a 90 loss team until they prove they're not. The proof begins in a few weeks. Here's hoping all the lemmas work out.
  23. I think he can do it, although the BB will be the harder goal to reach. Working with Mauer should help. The real question is how many of those taters come at Target Field.
  24. Based on Barardino's quotes from Ryan, I'd say it's a better than even chance they are talking about Johan.
