  1. Disaster for Clinton.
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wWUc8BZgWE If life were only like this.
  3. I clicked that one fully expecting to "enjoy" a rickroll.
  4. You are deferring ??????? to Step 4?
  5. I fail to see how any scenario that retains Dozier and adds Pearce makes this a better team, either. Put those two together, and...
  6. Aw crap. Never, as the saying goes, mind.
  7. I think what's unstated here is an assumption that Dozier will perform again like 2016, and not revert to 2015 and before. If the latter happens, a similar "gash" in the offense occurs whether you trade him or not. Polanco, through a different mix of skills, has the potential to approximately replicate 2015 Dozier right away, and also has some further upside. Instead of just letting Dozier revert, which is the $64M question of course (it could be he's reached a new permanent plateau), a trade buffers that risk by acquiring some kind of significant talent at a different position such as starting pitcher. And, I keep repeating, Polanco isn't a long term answer at SS.
  8. That first one was all legs. The last one was more about the arms.
  9. Another aspect that I think hasn't been mentioned is the relative frequency of such pitchers' duels. Had that game occurred in 1968 (or the earlier Deadball era) it might be remembered as simply a good finish to a Series. Coming in 1991, the developing drama was just that much more acute. As has been noted, Cleveland never led in this one, although their odds of winning became better than 50-50 after Rajai's homer. Had the game been more of a seesaw battle, the intensity felt by fans would have been a good deal higher, I believe.
  10. Any idea what this means for the minor league games on the back fields - not just intra-squad scrimmages, but the ones where other teams bus their players in?
  11. I am convinced the next life is going to be one crazy trip, based on the kinds of things we are being programmed to memorize in this life in preparation for it. Norm Cash batting .361 in 1961, Chico Fernandez hitting .248 that same year... Princess Bride and Monty Python zingers and now I find out I have to study up on Blaze and the Monster Machine too... it's gonna be weird, I'm telling you.
  12. I seem to have been misunderstood on this. Buxton and Kepler are good gambles to be fixtures as two OF starters worthy of a contending team for several years to come. Are either of you saying Rosario is better than a starter for a bad team? IMO looking for a 4th outfielder has it backwards - we need an upgrade in LF. In that scenario Rosario still has a role. Don't get hung up on one candidate or another to be that LF - I was responding to the question of 4th OF. Sorting out LF will be one of Falvey's challenges.
  13. Is this in response to anything said in this thread? Mentioning using large sums of money wisely in no way means the things you say are meant. Please don't construct straw men.
  14. I feel your pain. I missed basically the entire first run of Seinfeld; while my childless friends were chortling about being masters of their domain, I wasn't even master of my domicile.
  15. "Objection, your honor. My client was never a member of the campaign staff, since the only de facto staff member was the plaintiff himself."
  16. I missed on the impeachment of the dead soldier's parents - figured on that coming from the Libtard side - forgot that teh muslins bleed too. Kudos on completing the trifecta.
  17. The implication being that the fourth OF needs to play a competent CF, and not hurt us too much at the plate if you stick him in the lineup from time to time. We have that player. His name is Eddie Rosario. What we need is for someone else to step up and be a candidate to wield a heavy stick in LF and not be as much of a liability on defense as Grossman. Maybe Palka, maybe ABW, or maybe someone else comes along.
  18. It's been quiet, so I thought I'd revisit the post that started this thread. I haven't quite finished reviewing the entire thread yet, but who had yelling at the parents of a dead soldier, grabbing by the genitals, and refusing to commit to accept the election results, as pertinent issues? Show of hands. Also, no mention of Trump until page 3.
  19. Bad news just came in. Stigman recently had hip surgery, and his recovery is going slower than expected, so he won't be at the chapter meeting on Oct. 29. The organizers are looking into confirming a replacement speaker. Frank Quilici is a strong possibility. There will be an announcement when it's firmed up.
  20. Volquez's option has a $3M buyout, so I think that means they are arguing over $7M. He had a bad year, but can they find someone better for $7M? I doubt it.
  21. Forbes estimates of team revenues for 2016, and rank within MLB: KC $273M 11th DET $268M 14th MIN $240M 20th CWS $240M 21st CLE $220M 27th http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/#header:revenue_sortreverse:true KC and the Tigers have the wherewithal to retain one big-time star more than the Twins and Sox do, who in turn can do one more than Cleveland. Or they can divide up the difference in other ways - whatever. They all operate at a disadvantage to the $300M+ teams, but at least aren't in the same boat as the sub-$200M Florida teams. The question in my mind, which you raise in Cleveland's case but IMO applies to all five, is whether sustained success is possible, or periodic times of famine are unavoidable. I tend to think the former is possible, but that comes from playing too many simulated OOTP seasons and preying on idiot rival GMs. The view I think is more realistic is as described in the article here, and a window might be opening up.
  22. Moderator note: if you are referring to the "you must work for the government" line, that was IMO pretty mild as insults go, and was leavened with a little more humor than the typical slam. But, as a reminder to all, when disagreeing with someone, please stick to the topic and leave out the personal observations about one another. As we see here, such asides can be prone to misunderstanding, and that can lead to escalation. And please, don't pursue this tangent here in the thread. There are other means for dealing with perceived violations of TD Comment Policy, mentioned in the policy itself.
  23. "Oh we're live. I didn't know that." How many politicians and celebrities have uttered exactly those words?
  24. Another woman steps forward. This changes everything, right?
