  1. Those are basically the same. You were thinking of potato.
  2. He could also make big money in the glamorous field of Wedding Soup manufacture.
  3. I'm not outraged, but disappointed. He was a guy I kept rooting for - even took him in the Adopt-A-Prospect project here one year. Kept hoping he would find some little missing piece to let him at least slap singles against major league opponents. I don't rule out that he may still do so - he's 23 and I usually give a guy a couple more years to figure things out. But, you know my favorite saying, you shake the baseball tree and 99 gloves fall out before one or two bats do. And rebuilding teams eventually hit a numbers crunch for their decent prospects.
  4. His quotes in that article give me a notion why the new FO decided to move on with him. The best one: “I feel bad for the kids who played for me, including the ones I managed that are helping the Twins make a run for the playoffs right now. Ask any of them about me as a manager.” Inviting the writer to ask players for references is OK, I guess, but the part about feeling bad for them is a downright odd way of saying it. But the part about him pressing Steil, for information he can't give, is also key. It comes across as entitled. The rules don't apply to Dougie. I get that he's angry because of the news. But other guys get fired and don't hand out quotes like those. If he's half as good as he thinks he is, he'll land on his feet with some other organization who values him, so why spew like that? In my opinion he cooked his own goose bit by bit, over the years, with stuff like this behind closed doors. He's a polarizing figure, so I expect those here who enjoy that kind of fire to not be happy.
  5. That run Mauer just drove in probably saved Molly's job.
  6. Breaking the fourth wall. Nicely done.
  7. Ballplayers without a paunch, or downright beerbelly for that matter? I'm with ya.
  8. Concur. That is gen-you-wine authentic Molly Hatchet fan behavior. PS. That was the band that began the groundswell to fire Paul Molitor.
  9. They might be used to losing by now.
  10. ROSARIO!!!! What a way to end the game!
  11. If the GM sees this train headed toward us, the way off of the tracks is a couple of trades that net us "anything" instead of "nothing". The benefit to the team acquiring the prospect is no need to actually keep the prospect on their 25-man all year. That's worth something, if only as a sweetener to a larger trade. Hey, we suddenly have several Brian Duensings!
  12. This is obviously true, and someone posting an essay on probabilities or scenarios doesn't deny it. So I'm not sure what you are trying to get across in the context of this topic.
  13. I think by the rules you stated at the outset, the thread is over. Sort of a version of Godwin's Law. What was your favorite Jaime Garcia moment as a Twin? For me, I think it has to be that time he pitched in a game. But in case we're still continuing, my contribution is Scott Erickson. Oh, that guy. He could come out and give up three runs in the first inning, and then settle down and pitch a complete game win. Or, he would come out with no-no stuff, and then suddenly blow up in the fourth inning. Oh, that guy.
  14. Niekro plus Carlton together probably add up to Grandpa Bartolo. He's no Einstein, that's for sure. Albert got "i before e" wrong, TWICE. Some genius.
  15. He's the new Les Straker.
  16. With this many runs scored tonight, it's not just chicken dinnah, it's chicken extravaganza!
  17. Annnnnnd.... I was wrong. Welcome to the Bigs, Gabriel Moya!
  18. How many of the hitless guys get DFAed tonight?
  19. I will be surprised. My memory is that Molitor likes to ease rookies into the major league environment. With expanded rosters, there is no rush to provide respite for the rest of the bullpen, and I expect Moya will be allowed to look around his new environment for a couple days before being asked to take part. They keep track of these things, so someone can and probably will check whether I'm just imagining things. But I think Granite for instance was handled this way.
  20. Guess you're not watching the game tonight. It's gonna be this way the rest of the season - a homer in every inning!
  21. Moderator's note: Threads that touch on non-player personnel have a tendency to spiral into a broad narrative on the state of the front office or the franchise in general. Please, we've gone about far enough down that rabbit hole for this thread. The topic raised here was Molitor's lame-duck status. The purpose is not to squelch opinions or discussion; but start a new thread if you really feel compelled to launch a big-picture retrospective.
  22. They just decided.
  23. You inferred a direct cause-and-effect, then?
