  1. Exactly! It has the merit of getting the attention of one and only one person when shouted into a crowd.
  2. Not important to anyone else, but USAFChief and I were in attendance at the AFL game where Wade was injured. Truly a horrifying several minutes waiting for the two motionless players to be seen to.
  3. Which two players not currently on the 40-man have the best chance of forcing their way on? (Maybe nobody?)
  4. Yeah, it's inevitably going to be something like that. He probably got tired of the playground banter by third grade, but oh well. He could pull an Ervin Santana and file for a legal name change, if it bothers him.
  5. Ehire "Ay-Ray" Adrianza - to teach people how to say his name is enough
  6. Grouping these three together... No one as yet has mentioned the low-hanging fruit of Ryan "The King" Pressly?Ditto, Jason "Fidel" Castro.Ditto, Eduardo "Pablo" Escobar, though slightly more obscure.
  7. "Angel" Gabriel Moya
  8. Anibal "Lecter" Sanchez - gruesome, but perhaps works.
  9. "Hip Hip" Jorge Polanco - trite by now, and IndianaTwin's idea was better
  10. Ervin "Johan the Younger" Santana - technically inaccurate after he legally changed his name.
  11. Aaron "Stretch" Slegers, merely because tall people sometimes get called that
  12. "Cuppa" Joe Mauer
  13. Logan "Run" Morrison
  14. Byron "Death To Flying Things" Buxton - a recycled real nickname from the 19th C.
  15. Zack "Countertop" Granite - love it or hate it, probably hate it
  16. OK, the rules said one at a time. Brace yourselves... Kennys "Bye Bye" Vargas - for the home runs, or for his destiny with the team?
  17. I seem to recall reading that the Players' Association had set up a mock spring training camp for unsigned players, so as to give them reasonably professional facilities to get into playing shape. It wouldn't be the same, but actual game play is arguably not a crucial aspect of spring training. I don't know whether Lynn is one who has taken part. Then I don't think we, or anyone, will sign him. *groan*
  18. "Twins outfield prospect Ryan LaMarre tries to keep it simple in a complex game" Prospect? He turns 30 after the season. Picky picky picky. The headline writer should have said "Twins outfield hopeful Ryan LaMarre..."
  19. That sounds like a thread-jack. Please start a game thread thread thread if you want to pursue this tangent.
  20. Then make sure to follow Austin Bizzle.
  21. Two years is probably the most I'd go on him too - maybe an option for a third year based on 170 innings in 2019? Someone needs to offer more than the lowball $10M AAV, but he is unfortunately one of the casualties of the sudden (seeming) analytic turn of events that has dried up the demand in front offices for long contracts to pitchers in their 30s.
  22. This works when there are enough altruists. But what you are describing seems closely related to what economists/philosophers call the Tragedy Of The Commons - everyone is in general agreement that a nice jointly-shared thing is worth maintaining, but everyone is in individual agreement that someone else should do the bulk of the work to do so. I'll also offer pre-existing conditions in the Health Insurance realm as another analogy, with a devout hope that this doesn't turn into a massive tangent. Basically, no one wants to get left holding the bag, and everyone is desperately scared they are about to.
  23. The Scalpers of the nation thank you. They will be the main beneficiaries, moreso than the little guy.
  24. Most people don't pull down $500K a year once they've reached the requisite skill level to do the job. Most people aren't arguably one of the 750 best in the world at what they do, at least not in a field millions of people give a try at one point or other in their lives. Brian's post had value, but most analogies break down eventually and this one probably sooner than many.
