  1. Headline: "Red-Hot Pirates." The Pirates were on a 5-8 run when the Twins came to town. There's every chance that our Twins are going to be a Get Well card for a bunch more teams this season.
  2. Now do it in the first inning when the game is still in doubt.
  3. I think the implication was the Twins would almost have to make a market-correct offer to the two players.
  4. Getcha scorecard right cheer! Ya can't tell the players without a scorecard! A St Paul Saints scorecard, I mean.
  5. I'm willing to try almost anyone as 5th man in the rotation, but a pitcher with that last name would be a bad omen.
  6. They clearly weren't going to run with 19 pitchers. As you say, the norm has become 21 or 22, so it won't be a surprise if they add 1 or 2 more. But it's that size to accommodate the 15-day IL guys that they don't want to 60-day to clear room. Position players get injured too, but you can play a substitute every day for a while if you have to - not so with the bullpen.
  7. I think that's very true. Fans deserve to believe that the competition they watch on the field is legitimate. They do not want to be told, 1) "gamblers got their hooks into the players," 2) "some of the players were on performance enhancing drugs." If the casual fan goes to the game without prior knowledge, and then finds out that the team that won 15-4 was actually paid 5x more, it's a bummer.
  8. That could be taken two ways. Do you mean you know the answer, or that the answer is Yes?
  9. ?? Right now they have 19 by my count. Until they removed SWR, Garcia, and Topa I think they had 22. They've lacked talent all season but not numbers. The numbers do not count guys on the 60-day IL, but do include the ones on the 15-day. That could be the source of the disconnect.
  10. The headline stated "X or Y" and we all know the answer to that.
  11. Many of which will make the franchise poison to future free agents and draft picks.
  12. Brief as it was, it was still inconsequential.
  13. I meant it as a hockey metaphor but it could be interpreted however you wish. Game threads aren't Hell but you can see it from here sometimes.
  14. Paving the way for the next line of riff raff to come in!
  15. They're at 38 players on that roster, so they don't need the room at the moment. SWR was DFAed not to free up 40-man room but to free up 26-man room.
  16. I like BREAKING, as long as an admin comes along 24 hours later and removes it.
  17. Uffda. Even if he passes through waivers and maybe makes a rebound with the Twins, this seriously degrades the rearview mirror grade on the Berrios trade. Martin's provided value so far, but you have to trade front-line pitching for potential front-line pitching, and this has proved to be a failure. Other teams will always offer you hitting for your pitching.
  18. You think infernal intervention on behalf of the Dodgers is?
  19. No. Rogers. Aaron Bummer pitches for the Braves this season.
  20. He pitched on Monday. It was a last minute substitution that had him called on at all. The outing today was subpar, but even in the best case 6 innings would be fantasy.
  21. There are 7 teams with payroll above that 246 in 2026 who like things as they are. There are 12 teams with payroll below 171 who like things as they are too. Lot of No votes to be overcome. Because if they liked that range they'd already be in it.
  22. The Twins batters were overmatched by a starting pitcher who has come into his own. This is Martin's 11th start this season and he has yet to have a complete clunker against anybody. He's under team control through 2030. I'm not looking forward to having to face him these next several years. And dang it, he was a 14th round draft pick in 2018.
