  1. If you understand the game, you know that once the team finds itself behind by 2.48 runs, batters and pitchers alike start pressing and all of a sudden you drop another 7.52 runs and lose the game by a hair.
  2. Spin your high-falutin' rate analytics like batting average any way you wish. In the month of August, Martin and Wallner had nearly the same number of plate appearances (81 and 91 respectively), and Martin scored 9 times while Wallner scored 13 runs. Martin had 2 RBIs and Wallner had 13. Wallner's rate stats in September are ugly, no question. Still, he has 4 runs so far this month, and 4 RBIs. Martin has 6 runs and 0 RBIs. You would think a batting average difference of .161 to .385 in the month would have a bigger impact on the most important batting stats, those measuring the scoring of runs.
  3. Does the Twins broadcast team read TD? The other day I mentioned that I can't tell Outman and Fitzgerald apart at the plate. That's the topic of discussion in the top of the fourth. Maybe my observation was just that obvious and everyone sees it. Or maybe, just maybe, my life has not been in vain.
  4. First Rule of Holes, my friend. When you find yourself in one, stop digging. 😀
  5. I've been wondering for a few days now - what is your avatar photo?
  6. Larnach running the bases, LOL. He tries his best, bless his heart.
  7. That's clearly one possible meaning, leading to one clearcut outcome. I double checked my memory, and MLBTR has him remaining philosophical immediately after the trades - the train departure as we all acknowledge it to be - thus doubling down on the "Twin For Life" remarks he made during the All-Star break. Now, a month later, something has changed. He alluded to what may be on his mind when he brought up the W-L record of the past month. As always, I don't know (and I think none of us knows) what is being said in private. Ryan and Buxton have spoken candidly to the press in quick succession. If Pablo Lopez pipes up about something, anything, soon then I will feel even more confident that the stars are speaking for others in the clubhouse. What Baldelli does about it, is anyone's guess. What his boss Falvey does about it, is anyone's guess. What Clan Pohlad does about it, is anyone's guess. Maybe the Final Boss tells Derek, "do what you have to do." Two or even three trades could ensue in that scenario - the three stars I named - in line with what you say and then some. I'm just saying, stay tuned. That seemingly simple scenario is hardly the only one, and if I squint and read Buxton's comments just right, maybe not even the odds-on one. This could be some version of a palace revolt.
  8. Possibly the worst hawt taek I've seen in a month, and I'll leave it at that.
  9. Adios somebody, maybe. This plot could be about to thicken.
  10. He remains my favorite current Twin and this bit of straight talk is an example why.
  11. I feel as if we may have been slightly beaten to market, with your idea. Here's one for the analytics fans.
  12. Okay then, I'd sure hate to be in your bare feet.
  13. Put it this way: I'd sure hate to be in our shoes at the moment.
  14. When you pick your moments carefully and always do it with perfect hindsight, it's a useful trope. 😀
  15. On the fence about signing Naylor to play, but let's do a Kickstarter* to get Jomboy as the color analyst beside Provus. * Is Kickstarter still a thing? I do not keep up.
  16. His past 13 games has him sporting a .532 OPS. The Small Sample Size giveth, the Small Sample Size taketh away.
  17. Since fielding percentage is your thing, I'd like to mention that across the majors, .976 is the average for all shortstops in the year of our lord 2025. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2025-specialpos_ss-fielding.shtml I'm not sold on Brooks Lee at SS either but you'll need to dig a little deeper to convince me with numbers that there's something wrong.
  18. See, that's the heart of what was bothering me about the article. It didn't define its terms and left the discussion fuzzy. It didn't quite come out and say what anyone was doubting. "We doubt he's in the top 5" -- FangRaphs - that's about the closest to a specific thing that the player could try to "prove" is wrong. Jenkins's season is good but I really doubt that a writer is now muttering, "guess I was wrong, he's #5 now." Missing in action during most of April and all of May can't have shut anyone up about the durability concerns.
  19. I don't even want to think about your and my respective numerous contributions here, then. 😀
  20. I don't know how to conduct a careful study, but I suspect that hiring the unsuccessful people from other organizations usually works out even less well. 😀 And then there's hiring from within, AKA promoting. That can lead to stagnancy, a county-club atmosphere, and other bad things. Except when it works out well, and then forget all that naysaying. I'm sure there's no single formula for success. When hiring for any interesting job, it's difficult to know what the person will do until they've been doing it awhile. If the job is interesting enough, the candidate won't actually know for certain either.
  21. "Who is Mr Twin?" The average baseball fan across the nation but outside the team's core market might say Kirby Puckett - maybe a few are old enough to say Harmon or young enough to say Joe Mauer. "Who is Mr Marlins?" I bet most of those fans would be stuck for answer, to name even one Marlin. (By WAR for the team, it would be Giancarlo Stanton or Hanley Ramirez - and I doubt most people would associate the Marlins with either one.)
