  1. The other answer to this question I meant to add was that the original poster paraphrased Buster Olney to this effect. Whether accurate or not (I haven't checked), it is probably what set most people onto using that phrase.
  2. I guess the difference would be "find me a lights-out reliever by 2015" versus "find me a lights-out reliever by July 31." That could put some pressure on a GM, say one who already has put his chips in the "2013" square. And if it doesn't... it's all good.
  3. Nothing about "heat death of the universe" was mentioned? Lucky.
  4. I tried to ask nicely before, but I guess I wasn't direct enough: please end the side-discussion on this well-worn subject, and keep to the thread topic of whether offers for Perkins should be entertained.
  5. Don't blame the front office (wife); the manager clearly left the SW (starting windows) in too long.
  6. Yes, yes, the auto-correct feature always explains why I zlkjnadsjlkfnasdfuyb.
  7. And captain Edward Smith did pretty well for the first couple thousand miles of piloting the Titanic. Which, while not speaking well of the surname Smith, takes us pretty far afield from whether Ryan should shop Perkins or not.
  8. The idea being, we're switching from Margaritas to Ports? Sure, it's after dinner.
  9. I'm mainly on the same page with you here. I think the point people raise about "closer" is that his having acquired that label for the present means that the chance of a blow-you-away offer is probably as high now as it ever will be. If that offer doesn't materialize, keeping him is a great fallback position to have. Win-win.
  10. For the reasons you cited, I was in the process of deleting the post in question while you were constructing your reply.
  11. Folks, this thread has gone on far past the point of anything constructive going on, and I am closing it. The personal sniping and general lack of respect shown for each other, after John Bonnes stepped in to ask that it stop, resumed shortly thereafter and has not damped itself out on its own.
  12. Regarding your option #2, teams customarily grant permission without limitation, for a move that would be a promotion. The only exception would be if they planned to promote the guy themselves - something they would obviously ask the other team to keep quiet about, when they tell them "hands-off".
  13. Plus the strikeout the previous inning.
  14. Also, only two strikeouts against McGee today.
  15. Zobrist is "only" 4-for-13 this series, but he's been really annoying.
  16. The insurance run Roenicke let in sure looks bad now.
  17. Kudos to all thread participants for their restraint in responding to this hanging curve. I would not have been able to keep from getting banned.
  18. Rays AAAA > Twins MLB roster
  19. Have another margarita, in that case, and you will.
  20. Most are completely beyond salvage, in fact.
  21. Well, there's always tomorrow, right?
  22. I thought by now you'd have an avatar up involving Luke Scott's crummy beard.
  23. Thought they switched to Town Ball for this series. Soak the runner.
