  1. The Life and Death of Julius Caesar? / I'm always shaky when detailed questions about Willie S are asked
  2. That's different. You can be lax about paying back an ear, but an eye? Gotta be another eye for it.
  3. In fact for some people, ice cream can be almost like a drug.
  4. In that case I'll come over some time to bury your friends, not to praise them.
  5. Send a PM to Brock if you don't get any guidance the rest of the game.
  6. Your friends and countrymen might give you a better deal, can't hurt to ask.
  7. Winnah! / in Burlington, by Cedar Rapids, 4-2
  8. Yes, the Nero Leagues were an unjustly overlooked era in baseball, though the Hall of Fame has been working on that.
  9. In news from another part of the country, Cedar Rapids scored 2 in the top of the 8th to break the tie.

  11. I didn't mean to imply that my two favorite teams have to be anybody else's two favorite teams.
  12. Time to roll out an old favorite. I'm looking forward to Sept 28 and Nov 9, when my two favorite teams will play: Whoever Is Facing the Packers, and Whoever Is Facing The Bears. I guess I'll be hoping for a tie.
  13. Olbermann used to post at TD under an alias, until a moderator got fed up and banned him. / I'm kidding... as far as I know I saw Dave St Peter's later comments, to the effect that such marketing survey questions (among hundreds they use) are standard across a bunch of industries. It somewhat alters my opinion: instead of "inept" I now think "cynical". It's still push polling. "If you knew that [Candidate X] gave millions annually to charities for widows and orphans, would you consider voting for him?"
  14. I missed that news item, and/or didn't recall such things in the past. Good to hear. With all the extra players, you need the extra babysitters too.
  15. In either case, I'm not looking for exact parallels. I'm looking for principles behind what a successful organization has been doing.
  16. Plouffe with the walk-off 3-run dinger, you're saying?
  17. Carnac: Nope. Nope nope nope.
  18. And then strike one on Vargas is even worse.
  19. Plate umps just don't give Mauer the benefit of the doubt on close pitches anymore. Paul Emmel should get partial credit for the subsequent popup.
  20. Dozier-zie! Way to move the runner over to second! / with a single
  21. Oof. They don't come much closer than that one. Good challenge (or did the umpires call for it themselves?).
  22. The play by play on ESPN.com shows the reliever is H Street, and I suddenly realize he should be pitching in Washington DC.
