  1. Now do one for the Sam Deduno pitches that got past the catcher.
  2. Dozier for me. Santana played enough less than a full season to tip the balance.
  3. "An out. A routine out."
  4. I don't know what you're getting at.
  5. I like how somebody forged my signature. Pretty good replica, at that.
  6. Guys married thirty years, giving advice to guys married thirty years... we really don't have a clue, do we?
  7. Welp, gotta run. Movie night with my wife. Some chick flick called the Manhattan Short Film Festival. Pray for me.
  8. And I thought I had seen the height of laziness.
  9. It's not that he's anti-Science. He's just pro-Nonsense.
  10. So much for Arcia only hitting homers when the team is ahead or behind by 5 in late innings.
  11. Hard to believe there is dissatisfaction with the progress of the pitchers in the low minors. I'm taking a wild guess that he wants a major league job and doesn't see one happening for him anytime soon with the Twins (even though we believe an opening at the top is coming soon). Too bad to lose him, but I doubt it will be hard to find someone else good.
  12. I went away for a day, and come back to find several responses to my post that argue against something I didn't say. I've been on record for about a year now as wanting Gardenhire replaced. I was responding to the notion that it was simple. Replacing a pitching coach is simple - you ask the manager who he'd like and then you pretty much hire that guy - replacing a manager is not. The disruptions include, for instance, that every minute the GM spends vetting and interviewing managerial candidates, is a minute he's not scouring the waiver wire for astute pickups or constructing genius trades for prospects. I'm all about process.
  13. And it's not as if these extra 20 players would be top prospects. Mostly just St Paul Saints types of player, scattered through the farm system to fill in the gaps of the good players moved up or down to be on the new team, themselves having no ultimate impact on the franchise - though as Seth says they may be fun to follow. The question is what best develops the top-50 type of prospects, and my current mantra is "What Would St Louis Do?" Oh look, they have a NY-P League team. I just changed my mind, we should do that too.
  14. Carnac: "Ten Thousand Posts" Ed: Ten thousand posts? That is quite a lot of internet bandwidth. Carnac: You might suppose so. And yet, this may not be the gist of the contents of this envelope. Ed: Which have been hermetically sealed. You are correct, oh Magnificent One, as per usual. Carnac: I'm glad if you finally show some respect. Ed: I am always respectful. But even if I slip up, I rely on your inscrutable intellect to see the true respect that underlies the words. Carnac: So I should scrute the inscrutable, you're saying? I'm not sure the censors will allow that. Ed: Perhaps not, o Wise One. Shall we open the envelope? Carnac: Let's shall. Ed: <expectantly> And...? Carnac: May the fleas of a thousand hungry infants teach you the meaning of patience. Ed: I am suitably chastened. Carnac: "In Chief's long career in the military how many assigned locations has he had?"
  15. Back of the envelope calculation based on team payrolls is that wins are worth a couple million dollars apiece. Whatever fraction of that you want to assign to the starting pitcher would be a place to begin discussion.
  16. Seems the machine pulled the string on Parker with that second pitch. Looked like only 97 MPH.
  17. http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Rick+Anderson+Minnesota+Twins+Photo+Day+-Xgv8kMtEkNl.jpg "All right, all right, I'm the one that ruined the pitching staff. Don't make Brunansky sit in the corner for it too."
  18. I don't know if it's quite that simple. He has a contract for next year, and any firing is also disruptive. So the better question is if there is someone who is so much a better fit that it outweighs the various costs of cutting the ties.
  19. ESPN is so in bed with the NFL that there's a limit to how much criticism it will allow.
  20. I expected a better bridge than we got, to the coming wave of new ballplayers.
  21. I figured he probably got hit in both elbows at once. Bilateral and all that, dontcha'know.
  22. Gary is what Gary is because of Chicago. The rest of Indiana doesn't even let them be in the same time zone.
  23. "Jesus. I'm out." He stayed in there longer than I could have.
  24. This is poker lingo for drawing to an inside straight and missing?
  25. I think there are at least some Bozos on this bus.
