Well Marnie, Rasmus should have known this too, and chosen to nibble at the plate more to see if his opponents would get themselves out. Indeed, the box score shows 18 strikes in 36 pitches, not exactly nibbling but no evidence he went right at them either.

Too many plays-not-made by EE. He is a good backup because he won't hurt you even at the most demanding position, but he's not an above-average SS - the bar is set pretty high these days. I'm not sure he's even quite average, though as I said he's close enough.

If he gets relieved by K. Serasera I'm going to be officially freaked out.

I'd go along with "could", not quite ready to sign on for "should". The various positions he plays are the easiest ones (defensively) to find someone for. I keep hoping he'll show enough bat to suffice, but it remains too spotty.

That's the problem. We keep tying things up, until, at some point, we don't.

But Mauer's not and never has been touted as a power hitter. You can't expect him to keep up with the likes of Eduardo Escobar.

Our primary decent pitcher is giving up a decent number of runs tonight.

Speaking of old time teams, what's the scariest team in major league history, apparently for this crowd? The Cleveland Spiders. / their W-L record got scary at times too

The Brooklyn Bums long ago perfected the formula. Wait 'Til Next Year.

I've uncorked a few of those in my time, though in slow-pitch and not from the mound. At a certain point I decided it was time to hang up the rubber cleats, before I was invited to.

Moderator's note: Perhaps this thread has about run it's course anyway, but in keeping with Diehard's earlier request please let's try to keep to a minimum the retrospective on Bill Smith's tenure, as that is just too big a tangent to try to settle here.

    Another comeback needed, STAT.

Ugh, don't like Gardy's answer for that one.

Who do we have remaining for duty in the bullpen?

Santana and Dozier show some life.

I thought you might say Rob Antony.

I had a similar encounter during a toilet repair job, once.

If he asked you to put your clothes back on, then probably yes.

They've got some good pieces in place, but just aren't ready to win. I don't go for coach-speak platitudes usually, but it just feels that way in games like this and last night.

I was going to propose Ben And Jerry's Ninety Loss Crunch, but it seems they already have something appropriate.

The Life and Death of Julius Caesar? / I'm always shaky when detailed questions about Willie S are asked
  23. ashbury
That's different. You can be lax about paying back an ear, but an eye? Gotta be another eye for it.

In fact for some people, ice cream can be almost like a drug.

In that case I'll come over some time to bury your friends, not to praise them.
