  1. You have to admire the marketing department of a product whose name highlights the Gravy before the Steak. They apparently know their end-user. (And their product.) "On-Cor. Come for the gravy. Stay for the steak."
  2. Over in another thread this was asked: mike wants wins, on 03 Jun 2015 - 12:07 PM, said: Still not a Stauffer situation? What is a Stauffer situation? Sounds like a good punchline contest to me. Winner get bragging rights. Determination of how the winner is selected is open to good bribes.
  3. Perhaps this is a good punchline contest for today's game thread(s)? I'll bring it over there.
  4. There exists a spoiler for Sixth Sense? Shoot, I hope nothing bad happens to that little kid in the story.
  5. Any of these could work. I was just responding to the notion that stashing JR in AAA accomplishes anything.
  6. You still have to keep Graham on the 40-man or lose him on waivers, so who do you drop in order to add Oliveros? Also Atlanta won't accept a scrub, such as the guy you would drop for Oliveros.
  7. So draft him, then schedule him for the TJS the next day, just to get it out of the way?
  8. The team with good chemistry. Because that's what we call it when teams win. Nobody was particularly talking about their chemistry when they were losing in April. Torii and his Mentorin' was the stuff of jokes. Now their chemistry is the stuff of serious conversation? What's the difference? Winning. The Royals had it last year and still have it. Nobody was talking about the Royals' chemistry until they started winning.
  9. It is fun to have fun. But, you have to know how.
  10. Soon he'll be back on Top Of The World.
  11. Since last report, JJ has had so-so success at the plate, with a .238 BA and enough walks and extra-base hits to result in a tolerable .667 OPS. Because the month of May is now in the books, it's a good time to look at the seasonal stats. He's got a .230 BA, .300 on-base percentage, .390 slugging average, and thus an OPS of .690. Considering his physical ailments, this is not a bad base upon which to build the rest of his seasonal stats. The main concern is that since his concussion he has essentially not played behind the plate, mostly DH'ing and seeing sparing use in RF and 1B. I hope this is just a temporary precaution and he'll soon be allowed to continue to develop as a receiver.
  12. Since last report, this reliever has appeared in three more games, going 3 2/3 innings and giving up one earned run. He struck out 5 and walked 1. Even at that, he may have been a bit unlucky during this stretch: opposing batters had a colossal .575 batting average on balls put in play, suggesting a few of the 6 hits were of the seeing-eye variety. For his season through May, then, Alex has pitched 28.1 innings in 17 games, allowing 22 hits and 11 walks (that's the only nit to pick) for a nice WHIP of 1.165. He's struck out 22 batters and allowed only one home run. All in all, an ERA of 2.22 is something he can be quite proud of.
  13. I thought Vielma might be just in a slump at the plate earlier this season, and was showing signs of breaking out, but now it's getting ridiculous. 1 hit and 2 walks, 9 strikeouts, in his 25 plate appearances since my last status check. Do you really want to see what that comes to as an OPS? Hint, the first digit after the decimal point is not a '2'. The only conceivable ray of hope I can think of is that his corresponding BABIP is .077 (for the season it's now .231), but it is possible to put up such a number by simply not putting good wood on the ball, rather than constantly be hitting the ball at fielders and thus be a victim of bad luck. His season line in 187 PA shows a .192 batting average, only 8 walks, just 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 HR. That computes to a .229 on-base percentage, .234 slugging average, and thus an OPS of .463. He's made a few errors in the field but nothing out of the ordinary for a young and talented shortstop. I think he's been held out of only one game during this latest 9-day span. But at some point he's about to lose his starting job. I imagine they'll slide Goodrum over and see if he can do better than before at short (I'm not optimistic), and let Vielma try to regroup by sitting out some games or by getting sent down.
  14. Chief not being here, there is no one to think up the answer you probably are expecting.
  15. Too bad for Chief. I believe he is there in Beantown for this series. Hope they get all the games in and his schedule is flexible enough to work with this.

  17. The guys we have who are, are hammered by their management for the things they can not do. Three are in AAA right now. Maybe that's justified in each case.
  18. Just up from AAA? What's he throw?
  19. You know. That one time! When that one batter of theirs, hit that one ball, off of that one guy we had on the mound? That one time. I doubt I'll ever forget it.
  20. I took what you said and went a different way with it. Play on words, kinda sorta.

  22. Yeah, Molitor's going to have to face some tough post-game questions as to how you lose a close game and never get your best pitcher into the game.
  23. Don't reckon that's quite possible now.
