  1. You live out East, right? Who do you know who buys Twins tickets in any quantity? I doubt Torii sold $10M of tickets to the locals all by himself, but the bar wouldn't be that high. Terry Ryan signed Torii in order to sell more tickets, because his was a marketable name.
  2. Some tiny percentage of reviewable plays get overturned, so the base umpires must be doing OK.
  3. TR needed to sell tickets in Dec 2014 and the rest (eye-test, etc) is just public relations. TR already has multiple ways to tell tickets for 2016. He won't sign Hunter.
  4. Drew Butera hit .167 for an entire season as de facto starting catcher. Plouffe for one month is a piker by comparison.
  5. My "could wear down with everyday use" theory is starting to smell.
  6. He's batting .202. They're ALL learning situs for him this season.
  7. From a purely mathematical standpoint, the Sox may be in it if they win all their games. I look at it this way. With 32-33 games to go for most teams, some team in the AL is going to get hot and go 23-10. We just don't know which one, but it happens every year. It could be some first place team that proceeds to run away with the regular season title, or some last place team that gets hot and salvages a near-.500 record. If it happens to be the White Sox, it will put their season record at 84-78. I don't think that's going to be enough wins. So for my purposes, the Sox are out of it. It would take more than just a hot final month, but a miracle.
  8. "...or on the 60-Day DL and becomes eligible in time for the post season"? / edit - posted before quite finishing the thread, maybe this doesn't add any nuance?
  9. Buxton will go on to better days, but this is a lowlight. / edit - was catching up, didn't mean to copy Winston's observation
  10. Very static approach coming to the plate. Opposing teams will recognize and exploit brutally.
  11. Sure, I'm patient too, and if the brain trust feels he'll learn more in the majors than at AAA I'll live with it. I'm just calling it as I see it right here in the present - in a wild card race to boot.
  12. I'll tell you, strikeout machine though he is, Sano does not swing on that count at that ridiculous pitch Buxton whiffed on. Something is wrong; I've seen this since spring. I think he eventually turns it around but right now it's painful.
  13. Buxton's pitch recognition continues to baffle me. Strikeout #4 looked like me in Little League, swinging at the pitch when it's basically in the catcher's mitt (in this case low and outside). Slow recognition, slow bat... the hit-tool is coming along more gradually than expected for him.
  14. Boy, it's like that some game threads, isn't it? Almost caught up, then a (very welcome) phone call from AshburySteven, and it's catchup time again.
  15. He is not being aided by his defense this inning.
  16. Bad D by Sano and Escobar leads to a run and a guy on second who should be at first. I also expected Buxton to perform a little more magic on that ball to center.
  17. What's the potion of choice tonight? Random question.
  18. Does Plouffe make that pick? I think yes.
  19. Now now. The neighbor kid may not be the handsomest on the block but that kind of crossed a line.
  20. My concern has always been that he would wear down with constant use. Of course you can't prove that unless you try him, but I'll need to see a *lot* more of this over months, not weeks, to become convinced.
  21. In fairness I think most of her trips aren't exactly to sit at the beach.
  22. You were never 17 years old?
  23. My neighbor across the street said he saw a black bear in our creek bed yesterday. Our window doesn't face that way, and/or we weren't paying attention. He also saw a deer with nice antlers at around the same time. Wonder how that worked out.
  24. Except for the hits, he's pretty much untouchable.
