  2. I love AT&T Park so I have to go with the consensus there. Minute Maid Park in Houston is a dreary place to see a ballgame. I need to get to PNC. As for old ballparks: I got to attend two games at old Municipal Stadium in Cleveland shortly before they tore it down. First game was cheap seats in the lower deck, behind pillars - terrible experience. Second game we sprang for expensive seats, low down in the upper deck above the on-deck circle on the first base side - I will never have such good seats again, in a modern park, even if I'm in the front row. The old architecture taketh away, the old architecture giveth back.
  3. Yeah. Two outs with men on first and second isn't exactly his forte.
  4. Not allowed to visit the restroom until the game is over?
  5. Dibs on Berrios's home debut. / threadjack
  6. And yet he still got the result he wanted, a soft grounder that turned out to be too slow to catch the speedy batter. Game of inches. We're singing a different tune if that play goes our way.
  7. It's time for me to depart for the chick-flick with my wife anyway. Good timing, huh. See you.
  8. Managing rookies isn't straightforward.
  9. Who still is lobbying for May as closer in Perkins's absence?
  10. Always hated all aspects of that ballpark. Gimmicks built in from the start.
  11. And then get ready for the neighbors to egg your house.
  12. Rib cookoff in Reno this weekend. I can't make it down there, but number two son is in town for the long weekend and will sample the wares.
  13. Deserves a shoutout then.

  15. Losing someone like Aaron Thompson, were that to happen, would be only a minor matter - he's probably cut at the end of the season anyway. Of more importance is that Berrios does not yet need to be protected from rule-5 next December. So having him on the 40-man immediately means someone else doesn't get protected. Berrios can be added to the 40-man next year at whatever point he makes the team. Adding him now would add up to a lot of trouble, in return for a very speculative benefit to this year's post-season push.
  16. Not to worry. Only two more games like that one and it'll be over.
  17. A prolific (and good) writer like Jeremy is going to have a small percentage of his turns of phrase come out less than optimally. I too found it a bit grating and without obvious purpose, but hopefully we can move on.
  18. Kepler's on the 40-man, but adding Beresford would mean dropping someone. Not that there isn't a little dross on the roster, but Beresford will be dropped from the 40-man as soon as the season is over, so it would amount to risking losing someone for the purpose of rewarding a career man with another cup of coffee.
  19. You're ignoring what I said, about establishing the baseline of ticket sales in the off season. Torii wasn't signed to sell tickets in April.
  20. I think that's if you flat-out release a player.
  21. Also talent evaluation in Japan....
  22. Source? We're talking about last December, and establishing the baseline of game attendance, not walk-up sales in May.
