  1. From a TD moderation standpoint you did it just right. The comment policy covers the question, BTW. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/8228-twins-daily-comment-policy-latest-revision-september-2013/?p=164095
  2. Non-ROY winner in 1951 Mickey Mantle. / And name his teammate who did win it, without looking it up. (I had to.)
  3. Fun With Numbers candidate!
  4. Just to clarify what was said above... You can call up every guy who is on the 40-man roster, for merely the cost of paying his MLB salary for that time. But guys not yet on the 40-man can be added only if you make a corresponding move to take someone off. And then you can't easily drop them, which may have ramifications (e.g. the rule-5 draft in December). It being September doesn't simply mean it's open season to bring up youngsters.
  5. Please, when you quote David Ortiz, put in quotation marks and give attribution.
  6. Over-rated. What's the big deal hitting two home runs, in a game where your team scores 11? Try doing that in a game you end up winning 1-0. Much harder, much more clutch, don't you think?
  7. That's not a planet. THIS is a planet:
  8. Quick Twins history recap: 1983: 70-92 1984: 81-81 1985: 77-85 (and mid-season change of manager) 1986: 71-91 (and mid-season change of manager) 1987: 85-77 After a 90-loss season, the 1984 Twins ended up achieving .500, and even challenged for the postseason before fading. Sound familiar? That team followed up with two seasons of disappointment, before edging their way into the promised land and unexpectedly going all the way. I enjoyed the ride in 1984 (remember Gaetti's great quote about choking?), and am enjoying 2015 on its own merits as well. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking the young'uns are a slam dunk for even greater progress in 2016. It could happen that way, or this team could follow the pattern of the 1987 team by needing a few more seasons to gel. I remember seeing 2018 mentioned during the early stages of this rebuild; could still turn out to be "the" year.
  9. You should get out more.
  10. Tommy Tresh. Jason Bay. Ian Desmond. Steve Lombardozzi Jr.
  11. ... or get a lot of jobs which have nothing to do with the crime that was committed, or get a decent break on much of anything, even after the "debt to society" has been supposedly paid.
  12. Just like legions of young players before him...
  13. Finally, some FUN with numbers.
  14. OTOH that may turn out to be his entire career allotment.
  15. By this metric put me down as a bad fan as well. I am only lately coming around to the idea that they will finish above .500. But playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs. You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a gam- ... oops, channeling my Inner Jim Mora there for a second.
  16. I dunno, Brian. Stop having them, and it could prove fatal. Maybe moderation is the key. One birthday every 5 or 6 years?
  17. To quote Yogi Berra: it ain't over. Last night Felix Jorge pitched the Kernels to a playoff win over West Michigan. Yes, the team scored 5 runs behind him, but a solitary tally would have sufficed. And yes the bullpen (Bard and LeBlanc) contributed significantly. But... six innings of shutout ball - four hits, four strikeouts, two walks - in the pressure of the playoffs, WOW!
  18. That would in spirit be just another Senate. Nearly state-sized districts in many cases, huge ones in any case. What would be the purpose of having a second Senate?
  19. Gameday says "Warmup". Has it been saying that for the last 75 minutes?
  20. This kind of aggregate stat line always drives me nuts. Obscured by this is the fact that EE was always young for his league. E.g. he was a regular in AAA at age 22. Back when the discussion of interest was Florimon versus Escobar, an age by age comparison of their minor league stats built a strong circumstantial case that Pedro was doomed to be inadequate at the plate, while Eduardo was on a track (if he kept improving with age and experience) to hit sufficiently to hold a job. Also obscuring the issue was that Chicago somehow totally screwed him up for one season, by bringing him up to the majors prematurely. Now, I remained concerned even recently that his numbers might not hold up if he played every day - he's not a real big guy. Lately I'm finally convinced. The rest of the article here is more about the fundamentals, and is of typically high quality, but this one line early-on bothered me.
  21. Now I'm almost sorry I asked. Uggggggly delivery. Did he receive any coaching at all in the GCL? CAN he be coached? Looks like a shoulder strain waiting to happen.
  22. Conversely, teams don't usually spend a roster spot on a 22 year old if they aren't pretty high on him. Super-high, I don't know.
