  1. to be fair, they spent most of the night talking about the previous batter or Mike Trout or "Kris Bryant's good looks" I don't think it was specifically a slight on Dozier -- it was more that they were having a lazy evening at the ballpark instead of being broadcasters. I will say I also really enjoyed the moment of the three of them snapping back into the present to acknowledge that Dozier just creamed a tough breaking ball to deep center field.
  2. You can see the twins promotions dating back to 2009 on their website: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/schedule/promotions.jsp?c_id=min&y=2009 just change the year at the end from 2009 to 2010 , 2011, etc. For older items... you might be on your own... This bobblehead focused one goes all the way back to 2000: http://minnesotafanstore.com/cgi-bin/p/awtp-product-category.cgi?d=studio-52-collectibles&pc=8100
  3. oh, I didn't think of this before - Does Graham need to be on the Playoff Roster as a Rule V guy, or can he be sent to AAA once the season ends? I am guessing he has to stay on the roster unless there is an injury...
  4. The probable starters are from MLB.Com . They might be officially announced, or just their best guess. I think the Twins want to wring as many starts as possible from Santana in the second half as they can.
  5. Depending on what the "more" ends up being I think a trade for Zunino in the off-season could really help the Twins out at catcher. Waiting until the offseason on a long-term solution Catcher is wise - give Turner and Garver a chance to improve on their poor starts and re-evaluate the pipeline. I don't think the Twins have anyone that can step in and start over Suzuki in 2016 , but one of those two could figure things out for 2017. In the meantime, the Twins should be looking for a player that can step in sooner and have a good problem (too many catchers) instead of a bad problem.
  6. I think the only unrealistic item on the list is having Santana as the Starting SS - to me, that's more optimistic than realistic right now - I might flip Santana and Escobar. If I thought the Twins could get away with just 11 pitchers, I'd also swap Achter for Kennys Vargas, but that's me being optimistic that Vargas can turn it around. I don't know how likely the Twins are to swap for A.J. ... I just read that the Mariners made a trade for a catcher, but it's still just a rumor with no name. A.J. might already be on the move...
  7. These next 9 games are a great opportunity for the Twins to really put some distance between themselves and the other Wild Card contenders.
  8. I think they can win 5 or 6 games, but these West Coast trips always worry me. The way the Twins played the Orioles and the Tigers is comforting, however, so winning each series seems at least possible...
  9. The Twins are starting a 6 game West Coast Trip on Friday, and then come home for three against the Yankees. Probable starters vs. Oakland: Ervin Santana vs. Sonny Gray Phil Hughes vs. Scott Kazmir Tommy Milone vs. Jesse Chavez Probables vs. LAA Angels Gibson Pelfrey Santana (The Angels haven't announced who is starting Friday vs. Boston, so their rotation is unclear at this point.) Vs. NYY Hughes Milone Gibson The Oakland series feels like a trap - they play the Twins very tough, Kazmir in particular can be known to give the Twins fits, and Sonny Gray shut out Cleveland in his last start. The Angels are 48-40 right now, and of course have Trout, Pujols and company driving a potent offense. The Yankees lead the AL East, and of course are the Yankees, with all that Twin-killing hocus pocus and mumbo jumbo. How many wins do you see for the Twins in these 9 games? How many wins would be considered a success?
  10. AJ threw out Billy Hamilton in May - And he has exactly the same number of runners caught stealing as Kurt Suzuki does this year... Yes, he's terrible at it, but so is everyone else the Twins have used this year. Fryer's only played 18 innings, but he has yet to throw out a runner this year. Herrmann was a respectable league average 33% 4/12 caught...
  11. Perkins performance must have been tied to not being able to throw to Kurt Suzuki... I'm very happy to have Perkins as the Twins' closer, but I can't say I would mind Chapman in the role either. If the Twins had a shot at trading for Chapman, which would they demote to be the set up guy?
  12. I dunno, Jason Giambi makes a compelling case here: https://youtu.be/UTikOHMCNLg
  13. Ah yes - Laudner / Nieto / Butera - nothing too fancy about those guys. I would of course prefer someone like Brian Harper to play behind the plate, but Fryer / Suzuki can be good enough to not kill the Twins chances. I'm really pulling for Pinto to get healthy, too. I think he makes the Twins better if he can play.
  14. I think there's something to that - I don't know if it is just the Twins that feel that way about adding catchers... There was a bit of movement earlier in the season with Salty going to the D-Backs, and Wellington Castillo going to the Mariners, but I can't think of a lot of starting catchers moving midseason...Mike Piazza, maybe?
  15. I think the last word I would ever use to describe Terry Ryan or the Twins Front Office in general is "Desperate." No matter how badly they need an upgrade at a particular position I would be shocked if they did anything without a long term plan behind it. Now, saying that, it's fair to point to some of those prior long term plans and say they didn't work out (Hicks in CF, for example). I don't see Terry Ryan blurting out something like "OK fine you can have Berrios and Kepler, too!" It's more likely that nothing gets done to add a catcher at the deadline, than Ryan doing something rash or short-sighted.
  16. Tossing Batting Practice? Just kidding - I think Boyer is doing fine, though he seems to not be the right guy for the high leverage spots - probably should be Trevor May in that role until they let him start again.
  17. Fryer and Suzuki as a platoon is not any worse than Salas/Laudner, yeah? Neither has Laudner's home run power, but that was a nice bonus in 87, rather than something the 2015 Twins need to count on. Fryer should play more often than Herrmann did, as I imagine Suzuki can only be more run down in the second half without getting more days off. The trade rumors list doesn't really have an obvious solution - the long term guys are probably too expensive (in prospects), and the short term guys aren't that much of an upgrade...
  18. you mean who do the Brewers add to get Duensing?
  19. Just based on his limited MLB appearances, Paige doesn't make that particular list. Might he be the best pitcher of his era? Maybe! Bullet Joe Rogan and Smokey Joe Williams likewise don't appear on the list above but are probably in the conversation for top 10 or 20 Pitchers of all-time.
  20. with all the defensive shifting the Twins do - Plouffe has already essentially been at Short several times this year... I'm not really advocating moving Plouffe off of 3rd, it's just a fun thought experiment.
  21. It seems like they still think of May as a starter, which is good in some ways because he should have kept his spot. It's not good because they are using him like a mop-up / long reliever instead of putting him into high leverage situations, where a guy with his pitch mix can be the most valuable. It's like they are trying to save him for starting again later in the year... (or sooner?)
  22. Hopefully the loss was a learning experience for Molitor - that trusting Boyer to lock things down in that kind of situation is not his strength.
  23. I think Pelfrey's start was fine, he got knocked around a bit in the end, but the "loss" was more about Price continuing his ownership of the Twins' bats. The team had several chances to score runs early, and Price just happens to be better than the rest of the starting pitchers in either dugout. Price earned the win for his great pitching performance more than Pelfrey deserved a loss for his adequate start. That being said, the bullpen is the bigger concern, and maybe Pelfrey in the pen and May in the rotation makes the team better?
  24. He'd make as much or more on the open market, though, assuming a healthy season at the production he's had recently. His option is less of an "option" if this ends up being a lost season.
