  1. Actually, those calling for a front office overhaul probably came to that conclusion long before Wimmers needed surgery. Also... Ryan is going to have to deal with both higher expectations for this club and decreased patience from fans to get the ship righted. We're not in the Metrodome anymore and we can only blame Bill Smith for so long.
  2. I'd be interested in knowing what the Twins doctors' opinions are on rest/rehab for partial UCL tears vs. surgery. It sure seems like every time we try rest and rehab it only kicks the can down the road, and could potentially damage the ligament even more in the short-term.
  3. Eventually, in order to fix this rotation, the Twins will either need to sign a good pitcher to a free agent contract, or pull the trigger on a trade. Or both. The "next wave" of Twins starters is not currently in the system. I think there are many Twins fans who are frustrated not only with the poor play the last two years but also the glacial pace the Twins are on to try and fix it. TR saying these kinds of things isn't going to help season ticket sales.
  4. LEN3 says Twins official confirmed that they did not make any deals.
  5. You may have a point, but if that's the case, do you think any team will give away top pitching talent in the offseason if the Twins look to trade Span then?
  6. I disagree with this. Because there are more teams in contention with the extra wild card, Span's value is higher now than it will be in the offseason. If you want to wait to build up some more value, you wait until the 2013 trade deadline.
  7. If a team has offense, defense and bullpen that are good enough to compete, and still needs three starters, I don't think they're quite a .500 team.
  8. The Twins are 34-32 since May 16th? The first six weeks of the season are inextricably tied to the team's record. A bad six-week stretch can't be overlooked because of a mediocre eight-week stretch. The 2011 Twins during that same period from May 16th to July 30th were 38-30.
  9. TR in the Strib this morning "...I'm not going to say (Hernandez) pitches to contact." That's OK, TR, you didn't have to.
  10. I think you mean "reasonable" for a "proven closer".
  11. That's my prediction too - to the Angels, maybe for a so-so AA starter and Jim Hoey II.
  12. Smith has been vindicated a bit for the Bullock-Diamond trade. But yeah, on the whole it was very very bad.
  13. It's not worth it to pay to be an insider if this is the kind of thing you get the privilege of reading.
  14. What, I get that you think Gardy should stay. It's myopic to think that there can be no rational argument to let Gardy go.
  15. Rational and constructive thoughts = supporting lifetime contract for Gardy. Got it.
  16. Kubel hated hitting at TF. He said he needed to cut down his swing and hit more doubles and try to hit fewer HRs to be successful there.
  17. Yeah, I know. Remember what the Twins got for Delmon Young? Yeah, me neither... that's about what I'm expecting for Liriano.
  18. I have a feeling we're going to be very disappointed in what the Twins eventually get for Liriano. Everybody knows the Twins need pitching, and they're willing to trade one of their best pitchers for it... what does that tell other teams about the Twins' opinion of Liriano?
  19. You're presuming that "talent" means "physical talent". Carlos Gomez is physically more talented than Denard Span, but on the whole Span is more talented than Gomez, for all the reasons you outlined.
  20. When I look at what the Twins did this last offseason to try and right the ship, I'm seeing a lot of similarities to the 2000s Royals. We're not that far away, we just need to pick up a few mid-level free agents. Let's go get Gil Meche, Brett Tomko, Jose Guillen and Juan Cruz. They're all decent players, but they're stopgaps that don't fix the problem.
  21. For one thing, mentality is a talent. If the Twins shouldn't tear down the team and start over, what should they do? Continue to invest in cheap free agents as they've been doing? How much closer to contention do you think the Twins are than their record would suggest?
  22. I think Blackburn needs to try chewing gum. And if he's already chewing gum, switch flavors.
  23. You can send one player to a sports shrink if they've got confidence issues. But how do you fix a whole team if they've been conditioned to lose? I think the answer is the same whether you think losing is infectious or not. You cycle out the players, coaches, and staff until you hit on a combination that works.
  24. Maybe we should all try to say something positive about Nick. He's 1/5th of our 2013 rotation, so that's one less item on the shopping list. And I don't hope that a speeding bus runs him over.
