  1. It's Buxton, obviously. FSN has never shown a minor league game to showcase Sano.
  2. Let's let this thing play out before we start moving Rosario down the defensive spectrum. Dozier's been improved, but I'm not ready to say the Twins are set for years to come at second base because of him.
  3. I'm all for it, whatever the Bucs can offer. I don't think the Twins really want to trade Morneau, however. We've seen how loyal they are to "their (Gardy's) guys". I'm still amazed that the Twins ever let Cuddyer and Punto go.
  4. Agree with Riverbrian - it was a bad call, but focusing on the call as the reason the Twins lost conveniently ignores the fact that Morneau had a bad at-bat in a key spot.
  5. With Escobar in AAA, somebody's got to sop up the at-bats that Jamey Carroll would be getting to prevent his option from vesting.
  6. He's a left-handed Nick Blackburn.
  7. I like Hughes a little bit, as a FA acquisition I'd be fine with him. I'd just rather trade Morneau for a mediocre prospect than an established player that may walk at the end of the season anyway.
  8. You'd only save about $2.5 million on Morneau because you'd be taking on Hughes, who's making $7.15 million. The negotiating window with Hughes doesn't interest me all that much. I don't think it will make a big difference if they really want to bring in Hughes.
  9. Hughes is a FA after this season. I wouldn't be opposed to the Twins signing Hughes then, but why would you trade Morneau for a rental?
  10. You mean that DSP may have lied about the Pohlads approving a significantly higher payroll? Can't be.
  11. Even in Florimon is better defensively, JJ Hardy will win the Gold Glove, because despite what the baseball wonks want us to believe, offense does play a part in that award.
  12. Huh? The Twins only have two outfielders on the roster right now.
  13. If the Twins have decided to let Gardy go, it might be good for the young players to get a feel for a new manager yet this season, but unless the Twins have somebody lined up to take over on more than an interim basis I think they let him play out the rest of the year.
  14. "Large" FA budget is relative. TR may have had his biggest FA budget to date going in to 2013, and he stuck with the same blueprint he always used. Injury reclamation projects and low-level veterans.
  15. They didn't find a way to keep the government out, because the IRS is on to them. They tried to find a way to skirt their taxes and failed. You can argue the merits of estate tax, but the Pohlads tried to break the law. Billionaires attempting to avoid tax responsibility doesn't draw a lot of sympathy from me.
  16. I was expecting Worley to get the call before Gibson.
  17. Gardenhire himself used it in the negative. We're talking about professional athletes, not college kids, so the traditional definition of "scholarship" doesn't apply. It's not just Gardenhire who used it, and it's not just the fans who repeat it. Google "Twins scholarships" and you'll get articles going back to spring training of 2012 from legitimate sports reporters.
  18. It means the player who isn't performing keeps his spot because he is either a) on a decent sized contract, performed better some time in the past, or c) is a favorite of the manager. For more information, see Blackburn, Nick.
  19. I'm not sure Sano will stick at 3B, and even if he does the Twins would need a bridge to Sano if they trade Plouffe. I like Plouffe and I think he can be a solid starting 3B for a few years, something like Casey Blake was for the Indians.
  20. Didn't you watch that minor league game last week? Buxton is going to be Willie Mays and then some.
  21. It's weird to think that if Willingham was hitting like last year we'd trade him for whatever we can get... but now that he's been in a 2 1/2 month slump, we want to keep him.
  22. Right? It sounds like Powers doesn't even care that neither Span or Revere has been all that great this season, only that they looked good beating the Twins.
  23. How come the Twins didn't draft any shortstops this year?
  24. Despite the comments from TR about consistency, it's fairly obvious that Gibson's performance is not the reason he's still in AAA.
  25. Wow, if I was Gibson and his agent I'd be none too happy about being repeatedly passed over like this. Maybe he has those dreaded character issues that the Twins hate so much.
